It's baaaaack! The Curse of Oak Island returns next Tuesday November 13 on the History Channel. Season 6 preview episode at 8pm, with the regular timeslot at 9pm Tuesdays. For those of you who missed the first five seasons of the show, an exhaustive, comprehensive summary of what happened so far is listed in detail in the spoiler box below: {Click this to see the Series Summary so far:} They didn't find the treasure. Anyway, maybe they find something in Season 6! And there will be plenty of time to do so, as there will be a mind-numbing *thirty hours* in Season 6! Which is twice as many as last season. As anyone who watched the show before will tell you, 90% of each episode is total filler, recapping stuff already mentioned countless times in prior episodes. So last season they reached a dead end swiss-cheesing the Money Pit to death with multiple holes. With so much time to fill, I'm guessing they take another stab at it in Season 6. I think their best shot at finding something is in the Swamp, which they partially drained last season. I would dig the crap out of the Swamp, hoping to find something in the muck...

Our son-in-law got us hooked on this several years ago. Not a lot of action, but a lot of hope and perseverance. I wish they could find a way to shut off the booby-trapped water flow in the Money Pit. Because until they do that, there's basically no shot at getting to the treasure unless they make hundreds of holes... BTW, did you watch any of the spin-off series "The Curse of Civil War Gold" last season? It's made by the same producers, so it probably follows the same mind-numbing format. Anyway, it got renewed for Season 2, so it'll appear in the Spring sometime in 2019...

Didn't hold my interest. {Spoiler about Oak Island} Apparently, they have brought in some new sonar equipment that will allow more details to show up around the money pit. And there has been some MAJOR draining and other work done around the swamp.

I forgot how much I enjoyed this show -- a true buried treasure adventure with fascinating historical discoveries. Wow.
I so hope the Canadian government is supporting the effort (for the sake of potential tourist income) in the form of permits and tax/fee relief. That cofferdam looks sturdy enough to play a key role in the area's reclamation. I know I'd be happy to tour an eventual marine platform if in the area.
Anyway, the series looks quite interesting. I'm all in.

That cofferdam looks sturdy enough to play a key role in the area's reclamation. I know I'd be happy to tour an eventual marine platform if in the area. Anyway, the series looks quite interesting. I'm all in. OK, I watched the two-hour season kickoff extravaganza episode, and indeed this season seems promising There are three main areas to focus on this season. Here's what's happening so far this season: The first is the Money Pit. Seismic testing is being done to get a better idea of what's underground in the Money Pit. The whole Money Pit area is being mapped at a cost of $1 million using 1300 charges filled with 20 grams of dynamite. The second is Smith's Cove, to further explore a U-shaped wooden dam under the water and possible flood tunnels. A huge cofferdam will be constructed using two cranes to block the water so the area can be excavated. They are also exploring the forested area on the other side of the island. A British coin along with a rock with holes in it was found so far in Lot 2. The third area is the Swamp. But since there's 28 more hours to go, they'll cover that later this season...Stay tuned!

I finished watching Episode 2 while digesting my turkey dinner The seismic testing has been completed in the Money Pit. Results next season! J/K, probably in a couple weeks, maybe... The construction project for the 525-foot cofferdam has begun. An access road to the cove was created, now the parts for the crane is being assembled. Looks like it's just one crane being used, the animation at the meeting showed two cranes.

OK, just finished watching Episode 3 Construction has started on the 525-foot cofferdam. 120 steel sheets will be placed some 25 feet into the ground. Should take around three weeks to complete. Turns out the seismic testing was done in two different areas. One was the Money Pit area, the second area was the Mega Bin, an area twice as big some 600 feet north of the Money Pit. Both areas are indicated in the red areas in the picture. Anomalies were found in both areas. They decided to go for the Money Pit first. A seismic drill bit was brought in, and exploratory digging has began...

Finished watching Episodes 4 to 6 No luck with the first test hole in the Money Pit, a couple more holes have been dug. The hope is to find a searcher shaft that runs toward the Money Pit. A test hole was also dug into the Mega Bin, but a potential void turned out to be just softer soil and not a void space. A new prefab Research Center building was brought in to house materials collected from outside sources for future study. Work continues on the cofferdam. Around halfway complete now...

I for one appreciate your objective recaps, etching. I appreciate reading them, I'm just running late with comments/responses in these forums.
Love this show. I started watching it from its beginning and found myself to be a history/treasure hunting TV reality-voyeur many years ago. Now I am watching Oak Island become an historical (semi) public exploration.
If all the technical agreements work out we should soon see the development of a Canadian tourist/museum destination in the making. I am truly routing for them to find and document the oldest of North American histories. And yes, a bit o' gold would be a blessing for them all.

If all the technical agreements work out we should soon see the development of a Canadian tourist/museum destination in the making. I am truly routing for them to find and document the oldest of North American histories. And yes, a bit o' gold would be a blessing for them all. Well, there is a visitor center on the island, apparently enough people come by that they made a new War Room elsewhere on the island. I guess they shut down the center during filming, as you don't see any visitors or cars in the overhead shots. What I don't get is how they can hold a team meeting at a local pub with cameras around without anyone noticing? I mean, it's not like they're in a private room or they have the whole place to themselves... Anyway, watched this week's Episode 7 tonight After four weeks, the 117 sheets of the cofferdam have been installed. Problem is, it wasn't a watertight seal and water is flowing through the gaps. Caulking was put in the gaps above water, but water can still get in through the soil so pumps still need to be used. Because a massive amount of dirt and mud is going to be excavated, a 50-ton wash plant is being installed to quickly process each pile. Also, it appears that the stone marker that was found 90 feet deep in the Money Pit and later displayed in a store display has been found in the crawl space underneath the store. It was used as a slab to pound leather on and the markings were worn away, so they will see if any markings can still be found on the stone.

Just finished watching Episode 8 Excavation of Smith's Cove has now began. In the first significant breakthrough of Season 6, they found the underground wooden structure that was first discovered some 40 years earlier. The wooden logs have carved roman numeral markings on them, so they weren't randomly placed there. Also, LIDAR laser technology was used to 3D map the stone that was displayed at the bookstore. The hope is to find minute details that were worn away when it was later used to pound leather on.

Just finished watching Episode 9 They finished uncovering the top of the wooden structure in Smith's Cove. It appears to be a wooden cofferdam some 65 feet wide. So they started digging inside the cofferdam area and one spot had many small rocks, possibly for a french drain. And it turns out the stone found at the bookstore was so badly worn down that the LIDAR was unable to detect any new carvings on the stone.

Just finished watching Episodes 10 and 11 Progress was made in Smith's Cove as more wooden structures were found. It appears that a wooden landing pier platform was uncovered. Digging has began in the Money Pit. First target was to revisit the H8 hole dug last season. A hammer grab is being used to clear out the debris from the bottom of the hole. Then the caisson in H8 will be raised some ten feet in hopes of dislodging anything that was pushed away when the hole was built.

Just finished watching Episode 12 It turns out the caisson in H8 was lifted some 43 feet, so the bottom is now 170 feet below the surface. Sonar was used to see if there was a cavity beneath the caisson, but the equipment failed during the search and had to be pulled out of service for repair. Meanwhile on Smith's Cove, a concrete wall was uncovered, adding to the mystery...

Just finished watching Episodes 13 and 14 While they have found some interesting bits from H8, a disturbing development has happened A sinkhole some 11 feet across and 8 feet deep has formed around the H8 shaft. That could spell the end of using heavy machinery around H8 and perhaps the whole Money Pit area, as continued use of heavy machinery might cause the equipment or even the entire area to collapse into the ground...

Just finished watching Episode 15 So it turns out a crane will be used to shake the crap out of the H8 caisson, in the hopes of settling the dirt in the Money Pit area in order to prevent further collapse around the cassion. In the meantime, they decided to redo the Dye Test that was done a few years ago to test the theory that the water in the Money Pit was coming from the shoreline. The previous test used green dye which turned out to be difficult to spot in the waters around the island. So the new test will use a fluorescent red dye instead. The red dye was mixed in with water pumped into the C1 hole. It was later confirmed that the red dye was spotted in Smith's Cove.

I wonder why the red dye didnt show up in the water where they had drones and a boat waiting to find it? To Gary come across it in the rocks is almost comical! I am beginning to think that there is no treasure to find, and if there was, it washed out to sea years ago! I hope I am wrong. I'd hate to see the brothers put all that effort in to find very few answers to whats down there and who put it there--the cross, the bone etc.

Probably in the low parts per million at that point. Perhaps the salt water affects the color of the dye? To be honest, if the cofferdam hadn't been built, I really don't think they would have spotted the dye in Smith's Cove either...

That is sad news. Too bad he didnt live long enough to see what is really hidden on the island I believe that marks the third death of the searchers on the island since the show started six years ago. The DMT hole in the Money Pit was in memory of a young kid who was there one summer, and one of the old-timers (Nolan?) died a few years ago. So anyway, just finished watching Episodes 16 and 17 The slipway in Smith's Cove was removed so the ground underneath the slipway could be excavated. A surveyor found several promising underground targets in the Smith's Cove area. The sinkhole around the H8 hole in the Money Pit was filled in, but the ground needs to settle first before work in the hole can resume, so it likely won't get looked at again until next year. In the meantime, work has began on the 60-inch wide Shaft 6 caisson. with the intent of finding the tunnel dug horizontally toward the Money Pit. Results have been encouraging so far, as a lot of wood was found, along with an oak timber, which could be from the collapse of the Money Pit.

Just finished watching Episode 18 With the dye test indicating that the Money Pit water was coming from Smith's Cove, the decision was made to follow the water path back toward the Money Pit. That means tearing up the 6000 square foot crane pad, with demolition underway. The digging in Shaft 6 in the Money Pit was halted after it reached bedrock at 190 feet. A new target at FG-5.5 has been chosen for the next hole to dig, six feet northwest of Shaft 6. Attachments:

Just finished watching Episode 19 A 60-inch cassion (called GG1) was dug at the FG-5.5 target site. Nothing was found, so digging began on a new target called Site 3. Work was suddenly halted, however, when the crane operators in the region went on strike, affecting operations on Oak Island It's late October now, and with operations wrapping up in November, that could be it for the Money Pit this season...

I have gotten so aggravated with this show I stopped watching. I have my own theories that they haven't even suggested on the show (salt mining mostly) after doing some searching on the net and seeing things they haven't shown on the show. There has been someone on Reddit doing recaps so I am ok with missing them. It was sad to hear of Dan's passing tho

Just finished watching Episode 20 With the crane operators on strike, focus has shifted mainly to Smith's Cove. They also are investigating an old stone well near the Money Pit site that might have been there around the time of the Money Pit construction.

Just finished watching Episodes 21 and 22 With the crane operator strike still on-going and time running out, they decided to ditch the Money Pit and focus on Smith's Cove. And for the first time all season, the Swamp had activity. A seismic testing survey was done on the Swamp using 2025 explosive charges. Results coming next season Several more undiscovered walls were uncovered in Smith's Cove. Turns out the season ends in November, so that will wrap it up for this season. Once again, the treasure wasn't found, but a lot of progress was made, particularly in Smith's Cove. So even though Season 6 had twice as many hours as Season 5, it only resulted in six more episodes. I guess all the Digging Deeper shows were being counted in the totals. See ya all next season!

Just saw on Facebook that Dan Blankenship passed away from natural causes yesterday. He was 95. RIP, Dan. Turns out there was a final Drilling Down episode at the end of the season. In it, the results of the seismic testing of the swamp were revealed. A 100-foot anomaly was found. Perhaps it's a sunken ship? I'm sure that will be investigated next season... Also on the show was a remembrance for Dan Blankenship. The crew members reflected on their time they've known him and when they first met him. Worth watching...
