Mary Poppins Returns For anyone who is putting off going to see this because, like myself, you're afraid it will damage your wonderful memories of the original Mary Poppins, GO, and rest assured they won't be damaged. This movie is wonderful, in fact, Practically Perfect In Every Way. It was so perfect that it brought tears to my eyes many times over. The casting is superb. Emily Blunt is the perfect choice as Mary Poppins. Lin Manuel Miranda is wonderful as Jack, her new partner in her adventures with the children. The children are great, not too precocious or sickeningly sweet. Just the perfect children for Mary to share her magical times with. A few characters are brought back from the original, although older. Even Dick VanDyke shows up briefly but memorably at the end (but not as Bert). The music is perfect also. I was afraid it wouldn't be. I was afraid the music & dancing would be too "modernized". It's not. The movie is ever so slightly modernized from the original, but only as it should be since time has passed for the characters. Their time frame is very natural. Many many subtle references to the original bring back a nostalgia that makes you smile. Even the background music is often instrumentals of the original's songs. The ending segment is just as wonderful & uplifting as the kite scene ending of the original was. All in all the perfect follow up for the story.

Thanks MissScarlet! I was apprehensive about seeing this movie, for the very reasons you mentioned! Now I will make sure to see it!
(My sister took me to see the original movie when I was a little squirt. Afterward, I was enchanted by my mother's umbrella and wanted to try to fly with it.)

We took the grandchildren to see this movie last weekend, and it was a good one! They sat and watched it beginning to end.
