Trauma, it's a BBC series of 4, on one DVD.
We loved it, but hated the ending,

I finally got around to see 'Shape of Water' - LOVED it! So beautiful and Octavia Spenser was incredible as always. She is one of those actresses that I just love to watch her facial expressions. It was so romantic! And the dad from Six Feet Under was in it.

Went to see The Hate You Give last night at the theater. Blown away! Can't remember the last time I cried at a movie. I had listened to the audiobook a month or so ago and knew I had to see it. Well done and with this topic, the movie and book should be required viewing/reading.

I went to see Beautiful Boy over the weekend. It's taken me a couple of days to process it and decide that I think the movie fell flat. I wanted to love it. I wanted to be wowed by Steve Carrell. Walking out of the theater, I met a woman whose grandson is going through drug addiction similar to what is shown in the film, and that drove home just how important it is for the story to be told. But the more I think about it, the more I have to accept that the movie told a great story, but something about it made it fall short. The best way I can say it is that they showed the story but didn't help the audience to feel the story. Had I not had the experience walking out of talking to a total stranger and hearing her story, I would have forgotten the film an hour later. It's compelling material. But it was told in such a mechanical way that I don't think it was all it could have been. thanks for this review. I'll save my money-I want to really FEEL the story.

Finally watched The Hundred Foot Journey wonderful movie. I have wanted to see it since it was in theaters... I went to the theater for that one when it was released and I LOVED it. I've recommended it to my friends. That reminds me, I have to put it on my purchase list.

We watched the latest Jurassic movie..... not good. No real plot, just an excuse to have dinosaurs running after people. I am so glad I didn't waste my money at the theater on this one.

Wanting something light to watch, we viewed "The BFG." It was perfect for the mood we were in.

I watched "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" and sang along. I named Mike Fleiss the Fleissmeister after the Burgermeister of Somber Town. He has even used that moniker on twitter.

I watched Giant on TV yesterday. The old one from 1956 with Rock Hudson & Elizabeth Taylor & James Dean. I'd never seen the whole thing before. This is really a great movie. Anyone who enjoys the older movies & has never seen this, should.

Today the ION Network is having an all day marathon of those feel good low production Christmas movies. Complete with the requisite happy endings. I started at 10:00 & have been watching all day. It goes on 'till late in the night. I'll probably continue to watch all day & as long as I can stay up tonight. I'm still in my pajamas & robe & probably will stay that way. I like stuff like this sometimes. With my totally uneventful Thanksgiving & Black Friday, this feels like a fun thing to be doing. Great way to be wasting a day. I guess I'll put off cleaning & decorating 'till tomorrow.

Well, I stayed up 'till 4:00am last night (morning?) watching the ION Network's Christmas movies. The last 2 are a bit foggy for me. I enjoyed them. I started noticing a few things about them as a whole. One was that the woman leads were all intelligent accomplished grown women of various ages (no older ones though), rather than the young, barely out of school, helpless and desperate ones of the past, waiting for a man to either save them from their problems or save them from being alone. Nice to see this. However a few themes seemed to run through the whole lot of them: 1) The women were intelligent, accomplished women, very good & appreciated and acknowledged at their jobs. They had build good successful lives through hard work & smarts. However, the moment they left the big city (where they were happy with their lives) to go visit a little dinky town, they decided the only way they could be happy was by living a simple life & leaving everything they've built behind. All they wanted was a small town simple life. I mean...………… really? A bit backwards if you ask me. Saying that women aren't meant for successful big city jobs or lives, just small town simplicity. This is especially weird if you think about the fact that the people making these movies are darned near definitely living in large metropolitan areas, most likely Los Angeles. Do they really hate their lives that much & think that way?
2) In every single case the woman had to find an eligible bachelor. Granted in every case a hunky, single, unattached, accomplished man just happened to be there right off the bat. But, why does every movie have to show women as only being happy if they can find a man?
All in all I enjoyed my Christmas movie marathon, but maybe I just watched a few too many of them & was getting a bit punchy. I was overthinking them. When I start critiquing the storyline of simple Christmas movies, maybe I've been watching a bit too long.
Anyhow, I did notice in my TV listings that this is going to be a Sunday event every Sunday for at least the next 3 weeks. Nonstop Christmas movies. I plan to watch, but not all day from 10:00am to 4:00 in the morning. I'll catch a few every week.

Bad Samaritan with David Tennant. A young valet breaks into a man's home and discovers a terrified woman who's chained and gagged. After notifying the police, he soon becomes the target of the psychopath's wrath as he tries to rescue the victim that he left behind. <<<Movie is exactly that and I enjoyed every second. David Tennant is great as always.

Betty Blue, and David Lynch's The Alphabet. BB is an old favorite of mine, and since Filmstruck is going under I've been watching as many foreign/arthouse flicks as possible.

We started to watch"The Ballad of Buster Scruggs" on Netflix. After an hour, we still weren't getting the point, so we didn't waste any more time with it.

We watched that last night - I knew it would be weird with the Coen brothers producing it. I really liked all six stories (even if they were bleak), but my husband only liked a couple of them. It's definitely not for everyone. I also saw Venom the other night - loved it. I can watch Tom Hardy in anything.

I usually watch movies with my tablet on my lap, using the IMDB app to see what else I've seen actors in. Couldn't believe it. There was a Harry Potter actor in BoBS: The "artist" in the Liam Neeson sketch was the guy who played Dudley Dursley in several of the HP films. He has changed . . . a LOT.

Went to see The Front Runner this weekend. I was not impressed! Hugh Jackman is too likable to have played Gary Hart. They talk in the movie about Hart being a womanizer, but Jackman plays him like a reluctant stiff who doesn’t want to be dragged to a party, and only talks to Donna rice because he can’t hear people talk with the loud music. It falls really flat.
