All the Rage - The designers are tasked to create bold head-to-toe looks using a single print. One of the most influential celebrity stylists in the country, Marni Senofonte, surprises the designers by lending her expertise in this 'go big or go home' challenge. Adam Selman guest judges.
Enjoy the show!

Hester said she was kicked out of school by an instructor who didn't like that she needed extra attention. Nadine was blaming her model. I'm glad the judge mentioned it. Nadine seemed bitter, maybe she just holds in her emotions a lot.
ETA: I feel like this show could be 60 minutes again.

Hester won and Nadine went home. Nadine might have stayed had she not made the rude remarks about her model. I really think Rakon had a much worse outfit. It was absolutely hideous. I like the outfit made by Sebastion a lot more than Hesters. But, Hesters was fun and quirky.

Sebastian's outfit was beautiful! Really pretty the way it was made and the way it was sewn, even though the print was a duller color. But I hated Kovid's plaid mess even though the judges all loved it for some reason. Yes it was bold but ugly bold. Some prints were just too subtle, like they were afraid to be bold, so I will give him that. But it was a mess. The mask was dumb and not well done too. Garo's grey and pink stripes were pretty ugly too. I can't believe he chose that pattern, but what he did with it was good. He can sew! I liked the judge's comment that it was a Jazzercise outfit. Rakon's was pretty bad with those weird knee gathers. Hester's was fine. Cute and very different, striking on the runway, especially with some of the boring colors out there. I'm glad she got to do "her" because we got to see more of how she styles herself. The bag was cute too! Now that she has immunity, she's looking forward to next week to do something weird. LOL! Can't wait to see it. Nadine is just a witch. She didn't want a big print with her big model, and got defensive and snotty. Wow. I give the model credit for not telling on Nadine wanting her to practice her walk and putting her down for it. The girl with the huge print, the minimalist designer who was safe, I thought was a cool look. That was definitely unique to have such a large print.

I don't quite know how to comment. The show's theme seemed to be focused on bullying this episode. The one who was bullied came out on top and the one who bullied landed on the bottom. Subtle, what...not. I preferred Sebatien's outfit and wish the mess that was Rakon's outfit had sent him home. See, Rakon, you should listen to Christian and not dress your grandmother. Next week looks to be a real stressor for everyone.

And this despite the fact that they've had bullies before who were kept around because they were talented designers. I agree that Rakon should have gone home. As much as I didn't like Nadine's attitude, her outfit looked better. OTOH, we would have been subjected to endless whines of "I want to go home" and "I don't like this." For the sake of our sanity (and the other designers) maybe it was better for her to leave. And yeah, that model was pretty restrained. I can't say I would have been, but maybe the model was afraid she would look bad herself if she spilled the beans. After all, she might have to work with some nasty designer/photographer/editor in the future. Fair is fair. Hester did design a nice outfit. I liked Sebastien's better, but I didn't mind her winning. Ah, camping, when everyone's true personality comes out. I can't wait.

I love the changes thay have made this year. Love Christian. Who thought that Tim could ever be replaced, but I am happy with CS' style of approaching the designers and his comments.
I also like that they don't make them all line up but tell them how things are when they are sitting down and then the six top and bottom come up to the runway. I also like that they show us the safe designs as they call the designers so we can place what they did....and I really like that the safe designers can hear and see the action on the runway.

Frankly, I thought that model didn't have a good walk either. But putting that aside, that doesn't excuse Nadine's rudeness. She made a bad design made worse because she put a curvy woman in it. Didn't she know which model she had before she sketched her design?
Rakon's was a hot mess too. Either of the bottom two could go home, IMO, so sending the rude one is fine by me. This competition isn't for Nadine.

They drew model cards (with photos and sizing descriptions) as soon as they returned from the runway. I can't remember where they sketched - was it in the runway room? Anyway, they had their models when they went to Mood.

And I knew right off when Nadine was instructing her model how to walk and I knew that her being a plus size model she was set up for failure. Even the other designer said that the model gallops. Even still, you'd think they'd learn NOT to say the slightest negative thing about plus models?? Rakon's fabric was not a PRINT. It was a WEAVE. And as much as I love Kovid, I'm wondering if his plaid fabric was a weave?

Or have them pick their own models.

That's interesting...I purchased a jacket (many years ago) in the same material Rakon used. At the time I thought of it as a subdued plaid. Plaids are woven, are they not? But, then isn't all fabric woven at some point> Is it the way the fabric design is conceived? I'm curious...

But, then isn't all fabric woven at some point> Is it the way the fabric design is conceived? I'm curious... A print typically has a right side and wrong side. The colored threads are woven to create a pattern or whatever design. An example is houndstooth. A print is finished fabric that has been imprinted or painted or whatever like that on or through the fabric. That's why I wondered if Kovid's fabric is printed or woven. I could tell Rakon's wasn't a print. I think he should have gone home on that alone. Or better yet, Christian should have said something right off instead of saying it's simply not a bold choice. It was the wrong choice.

Oh come on guys...Hester's looked like a picnic tablecloth! I can see this look selling in Japan or to someone under the age of 14. Yeah...I can picture Nina wearing the skirt and garter belt I loved Sebastien's look. Nadine was horrible to her model and needed to go home.

I am not surprised that PR is using a variety of sizes, but I am surprised that Nadine's model could not walk properly....even another designer said she galloped...and I do not blame Nadine for telling her what she wanted her to do and how she wanted her to walk. Sorry gang, the models work for the designers so it is surprising that she was not trained to walk properly on a runway and that PR hired her.

I agree. Lots of designers have told their models how to do certain things on the runway to make their fashions look better. With that said, there's this certain thing called "tone" and Nadine's was definitely pointed. Comments like "I like my outfit, but not on this model" (alluding to her weight) were just uncalled for, not to mention criticizing the model's body to her face.

pasnowbunny2 I thought the judges would mention that it looked like a picnic tablecloth; but, instead, they raved about her choice of fabric. And I also agree, we have seen plenty of designers telling their models how they want them to walk, twirl, etc. And that model needs instruction because her walk is terrible. Also true is that Nadine was not kind in either talking to her or about her. She's to blame for the bad look she sent down the runway. The producers are to blame for saddling them with a model who can't walk well. I've seen plenty of regular people not trying to be models who are just as tall, heavy and curvy as she but are much more graceful when they walk. Including plus size models isn't the problem, it's including a model who can't do the one thing that's most necessary for the job - walking well to show off the clothes. We've seen regular people on PR do a better job of walking.

We've seen regular people on PR do a better job of walking. Exactly. I could forgive Nadine her fussiness over how the model walked, because it was true. But I drew the line at Nadine's runway behavior. That was inexcusable, spouting off to the judges about how it was the poor model's fault her design looked terrible. They drew those comp cards with the model's stats as soon as they were given the challenge, so Nadine knew full well what that model would look like. On a more positive side, I love how Christian and the judges are growing into their roles. Brandon is evolving into the new Kors/Mizrahi with his snark. That was funny how he and Nina were keeping track of the designs. "And....another reveal! How many was that?" Yeah, I don't necessarily like the show be 90 minutes, either. I really don't care about the filler bits where they're in the apartment. OTOH, it's nice not to see designers frantically running around the workroom like ants.

Personally, I kind of like that they kept the hour and half format. When it's an hour it can feel very rushed to me.
I didn't mind that this was a one day challenge. It appeared they maybe had longer the second day because of the accessories consultations. I hope one day challenges aren't the norm because I prefer seeing the beautiful things they can produce with an extra day.
Very thankful they also kept the up-close look at the top/bottom garments. I wish they had incorporated that into the All-star version.

Someone posted this comment on the show's facebook page. I had not noticed this, but now I want to look for it.
"For all the viewers who are sticking around, watch the camera work on the runway. We are accustomed to seeing every design shown the same way as it walks down the runway. Not this season! Some designs get a nice, long shot of the model walking the full length of the runway. But if they don't want the designer to win, they cut away a lot, and the camera moves all over the place so that it's very unflattering to the design. If they want you to like the designer, they show a lot of sympathetic clips, even if they mix in some negative comments. If they don't like the designer, all you see are negative comments and frustrated expressions. Very manipulative. Good luck watching."

I'm going to have to watch that model closer next week, because I did not notice her galloping when the one designer said it, nor did I notice her walk was at all horrible. The weird pants made her legs look odd, but her walk didn't stand out to me as bad. I also admit to seeing the banner (above) and saying "There's a Cavanaugh? Who's Cavanaugh??"

I loved Hester's outfit and glad she won. Her previous designs I felt that the outfit she was wearing was far more interesting than the design she made. I thought it was different, flirty and fun. Very Betsey Johnson. Plus, the challenge was editorial, not ready to wear. I can't wait to see what she does next. Nadine, it's fine to instruct your model as to how you want her to walk, but it's also about tone. Now, if I had several kids at home I would kinda want to stay a bit. I'm a print girl and I feel that a large print can work on a plus size model - look at the African print and they women who wear it....they aren't a size two and they look like queens.

I thought Hester's outfil was of a very simple design...like an old fashioned Simplicity pattern. Sabastian's outfit was gorgeous and very complex looking...that should have won.
Betty's reprint of a Facebook comment was interesting....but not anything we did not already know. Editing the good guy/bad guy is always obvious....although sometimes the edit isn't needed as we can tell who is not competent or who is selfish.

Such a good runway show!
My favorite garments were from Sonia, Renee, Garo, Afa and Sebastian. Aesthetically, Sonia's look was my favorite.
Construction-wise, I think that Garo did very well with his pink & brown ensemble, but I knew the moment his model walked out that it was going to be poorly rated. The way it was cut, it drew your eye instantly to her crotch, and that's a huge Project Runway no-no. Still, I think it took a lot of talent and hard work to get those stripes to line up as well as they did. And so for that, I give him credit.
I think Hester's look was cute, but it seemed more suitable for a child. I could see my daughter wearing that.
I didn't dislike Nadine until this episode. I felt bad for her model. I wanted to give her a huge hug for maintaining a professional composure when I'm sure she wanted to rebuttal. I wasn't sad to see Nadine go.
I can't wait until next week's episode!!! Camping. Rain. Creepy crawlers. Oh, my.

I wouldn't have said galloping to describe her walk, but I'm not sure how I'd explain it. To me it was just heavy, not at all graceful, not because she's heavy but because the way she lands when she walks. That's probably not the right way to describe it either, maybe someone else will have better words. I when you mentioned Cavanaugh because I'd already forgotten her. I have all this season's episodes saved to show my daughter. When I saw there were 3 episodes saved, I was trying to think of who went home that first week, but didnt care enough to look. When I read your post, I thought, oh yeah, Cavanaugh! I'm still glad she's gone!

Hester's outfit was cute but Sebastian's design was glorious - better tailoring, more complex than Hester's. Would have preferred his to win, but OK with the decision.
Would not have been sad to see either of the bottom two go home. Nadine's outfit was OK but her attitude was very poor. Rakan was warned not to use that fabric and took it anyway - he really didn't speak to the challenge and his design was pretty awful. I think he should been the one to go.

Hmmm. Knowing people who teach at Parsons I'm not sure if I'm buying Hester's "I had a teacher who didn't like my hodge podge way of sewing or extra attention I needed, so she got together with the administration and had me kicked out" story (especially in the junior year) but then again, St Martins (Parsons sister school in London) is more flexible with having students be more flexible in the way they design so maybe it was the best thing to happen to her. I really enjoyed her look this week; she took that picnic blanket and made something quirky and fun and even though I wanted Sebastian to win I wasn't mad that she got the prize.
This week proves that picking beautiful, vibrant prints is something of an art form and not everyone is a Anya/Mondo/Uli. I either saw lots of amazing designs this week that were hampered by small, muddy prints and colors (Renee, Lela, Sonia, Venny, and Jamal), or a lovely print with a design that didn't really showcase it (Tessa). I liked Rakan's, but it was hampered by the print and the need for editing (an issue that Kovid's design also had even though it was in a nice, bright print).
I think some people either thrive in this sort of environment (dorm living, 1 or 2 day challenges, working in a group) or it sucks the life out of them and Renee was in the latter group; I think that overall actually being on Project Runway was an entirely different experience than she thought it would be and she was ready to go home. With that said, the way she treated her model was absolutely shameful. Directing her walk and how she showed off the garment was fine but all the comments about her body were really uncalled for, especially since Afa also had a plus size model and he made her look GOOD in a kimono, bootyful pants, and big print. In fact, Afa also has a plus side model their very first week and people liked the design he did for his model so much it was voted "Favorite Design of the Week" on the PR Instagram. It's not the model, it's her reaction to her, and I'm glad Brandon told her off about her attitude.
