No, this thread isn't about heartburn. Not directly anyway! It's a place to discuss our favorite carbonated beverages.
Whether you call them pop, soft drinks, cola, what are some of your favorites?
My nephew and I were cream soda connoisseurs at one time. One of the Albertson's grocery stores had a massive selection of soft drinks (2 aisles worth!) so we made it our mission to try every variety of cream soda we could and critique them.
The way the cream soda initially tasted was important, of course, but equally important was the immediate aftertaste and the long-term aftertaste. Some cream sodas were unimpressive because they didn't have a strong enough vanilla taste and just tasted like sugar water. Others tasted ok initially but had an unpleasant aftertaste.
My favorite by far was Natural Brew Vanilla Creme Soda. It had a nice strong vanilla taste going down and a slightly acidic aftertaste so it didn't lead to a too-sweet prolonged aftertaste. It's only downside was it was expensive compared to the other cream sodas available and hard to find because it was only available at a few stores.
Surprisingly, one of our favorite selections was Winn-Dixie cream soda. It had a good vanilla taste and the aftertaste was like cotton candy! The only problem with it was that the aftertaste tended to build so while it was ok at first, after half a can or so, it got to be cloyingly sweet so we'd add the remainder left in the can to a glass of ice to finish it off.
My other favorite soft drinks are Dr. Pepper/Mr. Pibb (I don't have a preference between the two anymore) and Vanilla at Peachtree (the signature soft drink at Moe's Southwest Grill).
