No real news yet, but we have a premiere date, so here we are.
Tom recently hinted that all the judges will be back:
This could also be a hint that the scoring will be tweaked for the coming season, so that the fans don't riot over another low-scoring star winning like Bobby Bones did last year.
Stay tuned, and post any news you see...

Here is an article about the format changes for the new season...except that it doesn't tell us anything about them. ----------------------------------------- ‘Dancing With The Stars’: ABC Hopes Format Tweaks Will Keep Entertainment Format On Air Past Season 28By Peter White August 5, 2019 5:30pm Dancing With the Stars is set to undergo a number of format changes for its upcoming 28th season. ABC hopes that these tweaks, high-profile casting and the fact the dancing competition is set to air once a year will refresh the show for the future. In May, ABC renewed the show and revealed it was going to freshen up the format, which is hosted by Erin Andrews and Tom Bergeron, along with judges Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba. ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke told Deadline that it was still in discussions with producer BBC Studios but she was expecting a “big" season. “The producers were just in last week talking about the casting and the creative evolution. It’s all very exciting. It won’t be major format changes, just tweaking and tinkering… the show’s been on so long and it’s been so successful elsewhere, I think they’ve done quite an impressive job of looking at what works,” she said. Burke added that the hope is the format tweaks will lead to more seasons of the show. “I’m quite excited about the casting they’ve put together. It’s not done, but the names that I have heard [are impressive]. I think it’s going to be a big season,” she said.

It's all very exciting! Isn't it, according to Karey Burke? But the actual information is pretty slim.

If it's starting September 16th, I would think they'd start announcing the cast pretty soon. Don't they usually have at least a month to practice before the show starts?

They mentioned on GMA that Tom was to make an appearance in the near future with the cast announcement.

They've had a lot more time to nail a cast down, so hopefully it won't be delayed by last minute scrambling to find D-listers to replace the C-listers who refused.

I guess part of the "tweaks" for the new season doesn't involve better casting.

I wish the tweak would involve going back to the way they show started where people just go out and dance different dances every week instead of having so many theme weeks. But I'm under no delusions that my wish will come true!

The new cast was announced on GMA this morning, sort of. They announced all the stars and the pros, but we will have to tune in on premiere night to see how they are paired off. Former Trump WHI Spokesman Sean Spicer (the one Melissa McCarthy used to parody with her motorized podium on SNL) is being used as the headline bait in all the media stories. The complete list of dancers: Lauren Alaina – country music star Christie Brinkley – supermodel Ally Brooke – pop star Hannah Brown – “The Bachelorette” Karamo Brown – TV host Kate Flannery – TV star Ray Lewis – NFL Hall of Famer Kel Mitchell – comedian/actor Lamar Odom – two-time NBA champion Sean Spicer – former White House press secretary James Van Der Beek – TV icon Mary Wilson – The Supremes Professional dancers: Brandon Armstrong Lindsay Arnold Alan Bersten Cheryl Burke Witney Carson Val Chmerkovskiy Sasha Farber Jenna Johnson Daniella Karagach Keo Motsepe Peta Murgatroyd Pasha Pashkov Gleb Savchenko Emma Slater The show premieres Monday, Sep. 16 at 8PM ET. Sean Spicer..? Lamar Odin? , who apparently has said no sparkles.. I don't know a few of them, which could be a good thing.I think this season is a make or break for me. If they haven't really tweaked the show, it will be my last season.. Happy to see Peta back..

No idea who Ally Brooke or Lauren Alaina are. Not familiar with Ray Lewis either (I hate football as much as I hate country music). Sean Spicer AND Lamar Odom? Train. Wreck. Will LO stay sober for the show? Totally foolish of them to cast him. He's a literal liability considering his recent history. I'm all there for the Browns - Hannah and Karamo! I adore him! I think Hannah will probably be a pretty good dancer. Nice that we're finally getting another Bachelorette on this show. The last one was the first one on the first DWTS season - Trista. Plenty of Bachelors though, unfortunately.
I liked Kate Flannery on The Office, but that's definitely a random casting. Van der Beek is random too. I've always heard he's a douchebag, so I'd say he's the most likely to be a jerk to his partner this season.
I expect Christie Brinkley to look amazing, but be a bit clunky, based on her "dancing" in Billy Joel's "Uptown Girl" vid all those years ago. Mary Wilson will go out early along with Spicer.

I remember Karamo from a while back on The Real World. He was terrible to some of his roommates and was like a villain on the show, but I guess he matured since then.

I'm not sure how douchebaggy James van der Beek is -- I think that rumor started partly b/c he's played douchey characters and douchey fictional versions of himself in movies/shows like Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back, The Rules of Attraction, and Don't Trust the B in Apt. 23. In other news, Tom Bergeron made a statement today -- I like that he can express his views with class:

You just have to love Tom.
Lauren Alaina came in second behind Scotty on American Idol several seasons ago. Her success in country music has been quite recent.

I just watched Brinkley in Chicago, she wasn't bad, looking good for her age. She's just a tad too thin.

Oh, I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about stories of how he treats people in public and how he behaves in his marriage. I don't think him being a jerk to wait staff or hitting on women in bars is anyone confusing him with his characters
I knew I'd heard Lauren Alaina's name, but since I hate country music and gave up AI many years ago (stopped watching after Kris Allen inexplicably won over Adam Lambert), there are two reasons for me not knowing who she is. She'll probably end up in the finals. Country music fans do vote as a block on these shows.
Nice little bit of dissent from Bergeron. Disappointing that TPTB don't seem to care what he thinks. Frankly, I don't think Spicer is going to be any great ratings getter. He's a little bore (and a little boor ), IMO. If they were going that way, they at least could have gotten Scaramucci. He would have been good for a few laughs.....although maybe Spicy will be such a bad dancer than we'll get some laughs from him too!
REALLY bummed that they didn't make Hayley a pro this year. IMO, she's more than earned it. Since apparently they've also done away with the troupe this season, she and the other members of the troupe are left out in the cold now

I agree that Spicer probably won't be the draw the show thinks he will -- mainly because he's been out of the spotlight for so long. Unless Melissa McCarthy shows up in character to remind people, but I doubt she could be bothered just for this.
I hadn't heard the stories about Van Der Beek, I'll have to do some googling.

I see where Tom is coming from, and appreciate what he said. However, I think that he and Erin, as well as the producers, have a lot of room to keep it escapist tv. For however many weeks Spicer is on, they can. Present him as a Trump guy, or more generically as a former press secretary. They can ask him what the White House thinks of his dancing, or they can ask him how hard it is for a guy whose never performed. Just because he had the job he did doesn’t mean they have to let it be political.
