Mind Blowing Food - With Gordon's help, Grant Achatz shows the contestants the art of unconventional plating. The home cooks must use their newfound skills to cook and plate a dish of their choice using an array of props found in the kitchen.
Enjoy the show!

Go Micah!! I'm glad he did well; he looked SO happy and a little giddy after the judges' critique.

Oooh, and Bri really kicked butt, too! I think she's got immunity nailed tonight. And hers looked really good! (Micah's looked good, too, but I just can't get into coffee flavor. )

Hey, Dorian hit a home run, too! Noah and Sarah (right?) have had the only problems so far, mostly Sarah.

Subha had a decent night (dammit) but he won't get immunity. It looked like a mess to me.

Awww, I wanted Bri to get immunity. Sucks to have 2 such bad weeks in a row and then do great and get such compliments and then not get the prize.

I liked this challenge although that kind of push-it-to-the-limit for no real reason plating doesn't appeal to me. It certainly is more imaginative than previous years when the challenges were alternating mystery box and catering.
I was surprised that Nick won as serving food in a mixing bowl didn't strike me as a great idea---especially when even GR had to move the mixer aside to get at the food. Same thing with D and the cake hidden is a glass bulb.... sort of hard to get at it.
I thought that the fisherman ( whose name eludes me) had a great presentation. I likes all the grass on the bottom along with the fog that would certainly represent being outdoors hunting and fishing.
Overall, just about everybody did well.

I think the reason Bri and Dorian didn't win was that even though their dishes were plated beautifully, they weren't 'wacky' enough. I can see them plating those dishes that way for any challenge. Nick would take some heat any other challenge for serving them pie out of a mixing bowl, but for this challenge it was just odd enough. I think Michah's was too similar to the demonstration...a main item with sauces and powders all over the place. I liked Jamie's the best. I think had he cooked his duck a bit more, he may have won.

I agree - an interesting but kind of silly challenge in a way. For me making art from food (something kids in child care do a lot by the way) just because - seems a tad foolish.

Wasn't it Jamie that did the fog thing? That was really neat; I think he or Bri should have won! (If it was her, we would have gotten the excitement of watching her head explode, so there's that, LOL!
The cake in the bulb was a very neat concept and looked beautiful, but SO difficult to get to. That would make it a fail to me.
Yeah Nick's mixing bowl dish didn't look all that good for a restaurant dish, but give me meringue and lemon pie and crumblies in a bowl, plus a spoon and I'm good for the evening.
