Got my free trial for Disney+ to watch The Mandolorian everyone was talking about. It was horrible. The only decent acting was Carl Weathers and Gina Carano. It was a really bad B Western in Space that rates a D+. The pacing was slow, the story stupid and plodding, and after you have seen Baby Yoda a couple of times it became a stale clique. Lets not even go into to the plot holes and the really unbelievable time lines. Comparing The Mandanlorian to the Clint Eastwood Sphaghetti Westerns is a HUGE stretch. I can't believe with all the talent Disney has in it's stable of writers, producers, and actors it came up with this drivel. What is even worst is people think it is this brilliant story and adds to the Star Wars franchise. What was really deceiving was that everyone was saying how concise and dense the episodes were and that they were short stating 25 mintues to 40 minutes. Almost every episode is 45 minutes long including 4 minutes of credits at the end. The worse part of this nonsense was the music. They tired to use epic sounding music to score every action in the series, which got ridiculous. Over all I was very unimpressed with The Mandolorian and with Disney+ as a channel. The selections were limited. If you are a Disney fan and enjoy the Princess movies and all the old Mickey Mouse cartoons I guess you have found heaven. Since all the other discussion has been deleted, maybe I should give it a try from a different direction. What do you think the sight is missing? What should be there? What will it take to no longer be a limited selection? I grew up watching all the Disney stuff and as a kid I can see watching a series multiple times but I just don't see the point as an adult to do that. There are so many other choices out there. While many folks think The Mandalorian is fantastic that's OK. I honestly feel with all the talent Disney has at hand the story could have done so much better. I have seen the live action trailer for Mulan and it looks amazing that is what I was expecting for The Mandolorian and I just didn't feel it. I also detest reviews claiming to folks that The Mandolorian is like the Clint Eastwood Spaghetti Westerns of the Lone Wolf and Cub manga. That is a very high bar. I guess for folks who are not familiar with either storyline will not get the comparison that is being attempted. The actors and showrunner for Netflix's The Witcher were comparing their story to being the next Game of Thrones. I think it is better for the fans to decide if a series/show/movie/franchise is better or as good as an established standard else it feels as if they are trying to push a public relations persons agenda on to the fan and that automatically get my back up. BTW Clint Eastwood's Spaghetti westerns and Lone Wolf and Cub are incredibly violent and there is much blood and gore and that simply is not represented in The Mandolorian, and the morality level is very lose, so I don't think a lot of Disney moms and dads will have their kids watching the originals much less think it is a good standard for their kids to observe. Disney has done some excellent film making especially for the family, Walt Disney took huge risks making many of his early animated films and I just think the company has strayed from that risk taking and instead of doing creative story telling has settled for what is safe. Safe may pay the bills and make tons of money for Disney executive but does not really create memorable stories for future generations. I don't think I really answered your question. It was disappointing that there was no original content is was all from the Disney vault. I have seen it already, and have seen all the Marvel movies so there really was not content for me to watch. I did find Marvel Runaways and watched all of that and then I cancelled my free trial.

Just because other people like something doesn't mean someone can't dislike it AND that their opinion isn't valid. Everyone is falling all over themselves about all the new SW movies/series and I think they're terrible, at least the ones I've seen. IMO, there are only 3 SW movies. The end. I like JJ Abrams, but he ruined Star Wars.
I'm happy for those who enjoy The Mandalorian, but I'll be giving it and Disney+ a hard pass. Just not interested.
When the prequels came out with Hayden Christensen on TNT weekend marathon sessions I occasionally would take a break from what I was doing and watch. When I was able to watch the movies one after another I could see a storyarc, I could see young Anakin struggling with all the shades of grey in his life. I personally feel these three prequel movies could have been quite good except George Lucas didn't want the actor to express any feelings. I do think Lucas destroyed that trilogy but many blame Hayden Christensen for being a poor actor. If the director tells you not to feel you got to do what he says. I thought with Rogue One the franchise had an opportunity to go forward and expand the SW universe and the Force Awakens seem to be heading the right direction then there was a big waffle moment in the Last Jedi and then I thought who can save this mess. I liked the strong female characters introduced and did not understand the backlash against them. It seems that JJAbrams bowed down to make the fans happy in this last SW installment and that never works out well. It just seemed like a big waste.

After the 1st of the year I decided to dump DirecTv & sing up for Disney+ & Hulu Live. I really like both of them & the quality is superb. So, since this is all new to me, what sort of original programming & how extensive was the selection on Hulu, Netflix & Amazon Prime when they were just getting started? To me, I have found a lot of original programming on Disney+ & they have already announced much more in the production phase.

I didn't start watching Netflix until a year or two ago, I had too much on regular cable I was still watching. While I have Amazon Prime I don't really watch there as I had too much on my DVR and Netflix queue. While I got a Roku last year this Christmas was the first time I kinda figured it out and took a chance getting free trials for Disney + and DCUniverse. I have lost hours of time going through the Netflix catalog. I think there are streaming channels for everyone out there, depending on your tastes you are not going to like everything.

The fandom made me seriously dislike these movies because it was obvious that the actors were clearly doing the best with the material they were given and all of them were criticized heavily for it. Poor Jake Lloyd (the actor who played young Anakin) was severely traumatized by "fans" who thought it was appropriate to go up to a small child and tell him that he single-handedly ruined the franchise. He's been in and out of mental institutions as an adult and isn't doing well at all. Natalie Portman was panned as well until she bounced back with Black Swan. The only actors who came out of the prequels unscathed were Samuel L Jackson and Ewan McGregor. And then there is the disgusting treatment of Kelly Marie Tran (which caused her to close down her Twitter), Daisy Ridley, and John Boyega online as well. It's really gross and I'm tired of fans dictating the arc of movies and directors kowtowing to them.

Kowtowing to fans, trying to please them is what destroys a story/franchise as the saying goes you cannot please everyone. Trying to please everyone you end up pleasing no one.

I just watched the movie The Reluctant Dragon. 1st I had no idea the movie went back as far as it did. It came out right after Fantasia & just before Dumbo (1941). 2nd a very young looking Walt makes an appearance & an even younger Alan Ladd has one of the main scenes. This is basically a tour of the newly opened Walt Disney Animation Studios. It is a good behind the scenes look at how an animation move comes about & what it takes to get it to the screen. The movie includes both live actors & a bunch of animated shorts with one from Goofy.

Encore is the one show I'd really like to see if I subscribed. I saw the first special on ABC and it's right in my wheelhouse, since I have a long history of doing school / community theater.

I know this is going to be kind of strange to most folks, but when I signed up for this service, I decided I would try to watch all the Disney movies in the order they were released. I just watched Davy Crockett The King Of The Wild Frontier. That was #25 on their roster & so far just 6 have been missing. Up next at #26 is Lady & The Tramp. It is all Disney releases until 1984 when they begin releasing their more adult fare under The Touchstone banner with Splash being first & then in 1990 along Hollywood Pictures & their 1st release Arachnophobia.

WOW, razorbacker what an interesting challenged you have given yourself!!! I strongly suspect it is a challenge I may not finish. If I were able to watch a movie a day it would still take over 3 years & I never have that opportunity, so, I may have passed over before I ever get to the end. LOL! I finally got to Lady & The Tramp. Next up was Westward Ho The Wagons but it isn't available, so Davy Crockett & The River Pirates rolls around. This was their 1st release of 1956. Years to go before I sleep.
By the way, Lady & The Tramp was the 1st wide screen animated production from the studio.

Well, I did it. I signed up for Disney + Hulu and ESPN+ bundle. I already had Hulu so this just doubled the Hulu cost; but at least it will be on one charge instead of two.
Still trying to decide what to watch first.
Oh, I accidentally signed up twice - Hulu confused me - anyway, a very nice older woman answered the Disney customer service line and after we agreed how I would remove one sign-up, she wished I would have a magical day. I pictured the roly-poly Fairy Godmother from one of the Princess cartoons. Brought a smile to my face after another first world problem solved.

So just a bit of an update on my journey through the timeline of Disney movies & watching them in release order. In the past few weeks I have seen Lady & The Tramp, Davy Crockett & The River Pirates, Old Yeller, Darby O'Gill & The Little People, Shaggy Dog, Sleeping Beauty, The Sign Of Zorro, Polyanna & The Swiss Family Robinson. Next up are Adventures of Grey Friars Bobby. It has been years & years since I have seen most of these movies & most of the details have been lost over time. I am reliving my childhood

So, as I have said before I am making my way through these movies in release date order. I am now in to 1961. I remember seeing many of them before, but all the details have exited the memory banks over the years so many of them seem like brand new movies to me. Yesterday I watched Babes In Toyland. I actually have no memory of this one at all & I have to say, it is like an acid trip for kids. It is just plain out there. If you have never seen this movie, I would recommend doing so, just to give yourself a jaw dropping moment or two. Besides there is a young Annette. Not her 1st appearance, that was The Shaggy Dog, but Ray Bolger plays a great villain. Check it out & let me know what you think.HA! Up next, my supposed to be soul mate for life, Haley Mills stars in The Parent Trap. Also not her 1st appearance, that was Pollyana.
Oh, I forgot, in Babes In Toyland there is a very young Bo Peep played by Ann Jillian.

Yesterday I spent a couple of hours with Hayley Mills & Hayley Mills as we tried to get Brian Keith & Maureen O'Hara back together in The Parent Trap. Personally I would have settled for either Hayley as my partner, but she just never got the vibes I was sending out. LOL!
Absent Minded Professor is on tap next.
PS: I had to edit this to add....The Parent Trap was the first time The Sherman Brothers were on hand to provide the music. It certainly won't be the last.

I have to say, I was sort of confused about The Absent Minded Professor. The movie was filmed in Black & White. The company had been producing in color for many years now & why they reverted back is what puzzles me. It was the 2nd appearance in a Disney movie for Fred Mac Murry following The Shaggy Dog.
