Finale, Part 2 - The remaining designers put final touches on their collections. Serena Williams joins as guest judge for the final runway, with only one designer chosen as the winner.
Enjoy the show!

Okay I have packed my bags and am gone. The new revamped Project Runway is a joke. I want to see Nina wear one of those hideous designs.

I like the winner as a person, but I did not care for his designs at all. I didn't really care for his collection either. I loved his camo dress earlier in the season, but I don't think there was even one of his finale pieces that I liked. The other three had some good and bad designs too. I do like Geoffrey's collection better than that awful winner several seasons ago (Greta?), the one who made the granny panties/diapers.

I just kicked back and enjoyed the show. Everyone did a good job, and everyone seemed genuinely happy with the winner. I loved the fact that all the eliminated designers immediately ran up and gave him a massive group hug. Also, the Asian man modeling his last coat worked the hell out of that look (as Victoria's model in the white dress). Having the right model for a look can really give you an edge because Thujin (First big coat with purple dress) and the model Nancy got with the crystal embossed leg made their clothes look fabulous..

I liked all the designs, but understood Nancy's more. She also got more applause than the others.
Anyway, Geoffrey found his artist's niche so I'm happy for him.
Congrats Geoffrey - I hope the mentor-ship works for you.

Congrats Geoffrey - I hope the mentor-ship works for you. Looks like a fantastic outcome for PR18. I don't have viewing access until tomorrow but am looking forward to seeing it! I've enjoyed seeing Nancy stretch her creative wings and wish the best for her. And Geoffrey what a compelling life story and he's such a creative soul! I hope for the much success for him! I'm very happy that he won this competition!

I don't know that Geoffrey's collection was my favorite, but I'm SO happy that he won. I think he's the one, of the final four, who needed it the most. When he called his father to tell him he's won, I was bawling.
Sergio's collection was my least favorite. It just seemed so dated. I literally bark-laughed when he said that the navy blue gown told the whole story about the melting of the polar ice caps I loved Victoria's white sweater gown. IMO, if her whole collection had been on that level, she would have won. It was just stunning.
I LOVE how they're really moving to be more inclusive with their models. That Swarovski crystal-encrusted prosthetic was fabulous!

Very happy with the outcome!! There were outfits that I thought were great in each of the collections and some I did not care for at all. I did like Geoffery' s designs, although I probably prefered Victoria's a tad more. Nonetheless I am thrilled for him.

I'm so glad that Geoffrey won! When I watched the show, I actually thought to myself that he was probably going to win. His stuff was just weird enough (but in an interesting way) to really set him apart from the pack.
I agree with what's been said about the other collections. It was really fun to see how much the final four designers loved and supported each other after having been given the impression that they were much more judgmental toward each other than the actually seem to be. It was interesting to see Brittany acting very supportive of Nancy when Nancy was walking with the models at the end of her show.

Geoffrey had a sleeve hanging off the boob of one of his models. Not flattering. Sergio had fringe hanging cowboy style on his dresses. That made the dresses look tacky. Victoria still had too many logos on her designs. Nancy had a lovely liquid fabric but did not impress with her designs.
Personally, I liked all the designers. I was rooting for Nancy, because of her story. I am glad Geoffrey won and they showed him talking to his dad. ❤️ Sergio proposing to his partner was sweet. Victoria dedicated her work to her husband, touching.

I think it's right that Geoffrey won, but he kind of won by default. None of other designers proved that they would have a career of new, original ideas ahead of them after the show was over.
Sergio is never going to stop catering to his niche demo (he's also going to keep recycling other designers' ideas); Victoria still didn't show enough variety, and she kind of canceled herself with the judges when she left her name on some of the clothes. Nancy had fewer negatives but she also didn't create as much excitement.
Geoffrey represented someone who has more new creative places to explore -- he is less locked into a track than the others. I think the show learned their lesson way back when they crowned Chloe Dao in season 2, and she went right back to her store in Texas and had no interest in making an industry presence beyond that. They want to make future industry stars, like they did with Christian.

I don't know what PR actually does for the winning designer. Way too many of them have done almost nothing of note. Christian is the huge exception as he said, about the time after he won, that nobody was going to do it for him so he had the sole responsibility for himself.
Of course now the mentorship has to be a big help, but I hope the Geoffrey has the emotional strength to push himself along. It seems in hearing his life atory that he has had a few "almost" moments that crumbled.

I think you're right ibot2much. Last night Nina and Brandon were on WWHL. A caller asked Nina which winner other than Christian she was most impressed with in their post-PR work. She struggled to come up with an answer - and finally said last season's winner. It seemed to me like that was more that she could remember him than thought he was truly the most impressive.
I thought Sergio had some really beautiful pieces in his collection, but his self-importance got in his way. He was so focused on the colors of the glaciers that he forgot to do anything new or noteworthy. With Geoffrey's collection, I didn't love most of it when I first saw it on the runway, but seeing pieces a second third or fourth time I was able to appreciate that he had some unique and original ideas. He took some things that are big in fashion right now, like puffy coats, and put his spin on it. For being noteworthy, I think they chose the right winner. And the call to his dad made it all worth it!

I watched part of that but missed what Nina said about the winners. I did laugh when Andy asked each of them if GM was their choice and Nina was vague and BM refused to answer...so I wonder how they came select GM.

Very happy with Geoffrey's win, those coats were very sculptural. I did think there was a lot going on with the tube dresses underneath them and might have benefited from something a little more plain and classic not to take away from those sculptural forms.
And Nancy! God, they kept saying the word 'authentic' and yes, yes she is. Her runway made me cry. The first model who uses a wheelchair really worked it. And the crystal prosthetic! I would love a show of her and Dee Dee just taking over the world?
Sergio and some winners, but some of those looks really took a wrong note for me. What he thought was 'mother nature' was 'mother-of-the-bride-nature'.
Victoria's looks didn't do it for me. It reminded me of the stuff I would see when I went shopping at Bolton's.

beerbelly I forgot about Sergio's mother nature comment and then I knew where he got the inspiration for his dress. It reminded me of those butter commercials in the '70's, "it's not nice to fool Mother Nature." (I was little, so I can't remember what the brand actually was!)

I had a thought when somebody was trying a white knit dress on a model who was heavier than the stereotype and as CS said, everything showed. We always thought of models as being tall and thin, but have moved to using models who are heavier and closer to the normal woman. However, nobody uses a short model.

Congrats Geoffrey - I hope the mentor-ship works for you. Because people were literally applauding the disabled models for being there. I’m all for inclusivity but I find it insulting for people to applaud and holler mainly (only) because they saw a model with a prosthetic or wheelchair coming down the runway. It was very noticeable as other models (by and large/overall) did not get the same vocal response. I also find it a bit insulting that Nancy immediately jumped up in glee whenever a disabled model came into casting. IMO of course...sorry, that was very off putting to me. I did not like Geoffrey’s collection. But I like him as a person and so was happy for his win. I didn’t like Nancy’s overall except for the suit and the long purple dress and I did like that shiny fabric she used . And I’m glad she kept the hood. I liked Victoria’s overall. She did have one overly logoed outfit but it was printed on the fabric so it’s not like she could take it off. Though there must be one outfit she did not use as she created a new look so there’s that. And the new look was beautiful. I liked Sergio’s personally. Some beautiful pieces but not very versatile (no pants/day (casual) looks). They were never going to have him win, though.

Of course now the mentorship has to be a big help, but I hope the Geoffrey has the emotional strength to push himself along. It seems in hearing his life atory that he has had a few "almost" moments that crumbled. Sebastian (last season's winner) designed all the clothing Mulan wears in the new movie. I'd say that's pretty high profile.
The show gives you a fishing rod, hook, and bait but you have to catch the fish yourself. Out of all the people on PR only Christian and Michael Costello made the most out of their opportunity and really hustled; the former with connecting with people and collaborating with Payless and other places right away, the latter with cultivating A and B list celebs to wear his dresses at award shows.
No one at PR wanted a repeat of the Chloe Dao situation; they wanted someone who would make the most out of the opportunity that had an eye for the future and that was Geoffrey. Sergio has shown himself incapable of listening to advice. Victoria had a good shot since they love their separates and she had a lot of cute looks but shot herself in the foot by keeping the monogrammed pieces in the show--after they specifically told her not to. Nancy would have made the most out of the opportunity too but Geoffrey was more fashion-forward. I think it came down to Nancy and Geoffrey in the end.
Also, I liked the fact that this year they simply named the winner instead of the way they usually do it. Less humiliating, and no one got told they were 4th and 3rd best after trying their hardest.

I saw that about Sebastian....wasn't it just announced on the final show? PR has been around many, many years. I guess I must have been talking about all those years prior...not a winner whose success was just noted. Sorry you misunderstood me.

I had the feeling it was perhaps a new found passion. While I absolutely applaud the effort ( although personally I didnt care for either look) having worked with the disability world there is sometimes a fine line between a sort of paternalistic "isnt that special" versus genuine acceptance. I wasnt sure about the audience in this case.

I am in agreement with many here. I was thrilled that Geoffrey won, but I didn't love his collection either.
Geoffrey was overall a humble, kind man. When he critiqued others, it was in a gentle way, mostly saying he didn't see their vision. But he was a good guy with a great sense of humor. I did like his jumpsuit at the very beginning, and I loved the long dress from the tie-dye episode. Those clothes were beautiful and wearable. This finale was out there. But Nina said this collection could be tailored down to just oversized jackets and simple under clothes. THAT I agree with.
Nancy could have won, I thought, if she included something other than such dressy gowns. Everything looked like cocktail or black tie wear. I did think some of the materials were beautiful especially under the lights.
Sergio.... didn't care for anything. VERY dated, and I have seen most of it before. That dark blue thing with that crinoline skirt looked so costume-y. It looked like something a Disney princess would wear on a float. I put him in 4th.
Victoria had some nice designs, but she did need a little more variety of style and color. She didn't listen to the judges when they told her not to plaster her name on her clothes. (I don't know why anyone would want to wear anything with a designers name and logo on it..... I don't care who they are.) And those caps; she used too many of them. They looked crocheted. I know it was a design from her mom, but it looked it. The white sweater dress was stunning however; very wearable. Simple and elegant.
Great season I thought. I don't recall a season where the designers seemed to actually like each other. That was nice.
I would love to see Heidi and Tim's show. I guess you have to stream it? Might look into it.

Wow. Lot's of thoughts. I'm not unhappy that Geoffrey won. He was so sweet and kind. He and Nancy were the two that I was rooting for. It's ironic, then, that his final collection was the one I liked the least. Those humongous jackets may be fashion-forward, but I thought they were hideous. You remember that old movie A Christmas Story? There's a scene where Ralphie's mom dresses his little brother in layers of winter clothing, so that he can barely move. As they walk to school, the little brother falls over and flails in the snow like a bug, unable to get up. Honestly, when I saw Geoffrey's huge jackets in the first part of the finale, I thought of that scene and laughed. I did feel a little sorry for Geoffrey at the final runway show, though. His mother clucked and told his brother, "He still doesn't know how to dress for a serious occasion!" It makes me wonder if he still gets pushback from his family. I'm glad that lady--his sister? mother?--squealed when he called home and said he won. I also liked it that they jumped to the point and announced the winner. I always felt badly for the losing designers in the past. "Well, we almost picked you to win, but..." Just get it over with. And that was so sweet that they all hugged and congratulated Geoffrey. Nancy's collection was gorgeous and my personal favorite. What was that fabric she used that shimmered like water? I knew she wouldn't win, though, because her collection looked too much the same. Also, she had used a disabled model before in the Olympic challenge, so it seemed like more of the same. As a special education teacher, I agree with the comments about patronizing the disabled models. I cringed when that model with the prosthetic leg told the designers in casting "I'm customizable!" It sounded cute, but it also sounded like she was having to sell herself. And yes, that jewel-encrusted leg was gorgeous on the runway. But it felt wrong for her and the wheelchair model to receive all that cheering when the regular models didn't. You are supposed to be admiring the dress. The model should fade into the background, not be the star of the show. Sergio already had an established clientele. Remember how he would go on about this women clients paying thousands of dollars for his dresses? I'm guessing he just wanted to transition and dress celebrities. Victoria had some good looks this season, but that branding in the finale just looked tacky. The judges were spot-on. You have to earn the name recognition in order for people to want to emulate by putting your name on their clothing. And was it technically cheating that her mother created the knitted accessories? At least Victoria was honest about that. Designers from the past...that brings back memories. Austin Scarlett and Santino briefly had a show together on Bravo. Somebody said Scarlett appeared on a Bravo series about wedding dresses. Chris March also had a show on Bravo. It looked like he was doing well. When he died he was widely praised. Michael Costello has done really well. Next to Christian, he is one of the go-to designers for celebrities. He appeared as a guest judge on a Bravo reality show about make-up artists, and the contestants swooned over him. Other than that, I don't have any clue how people from this show have turned out. As for Sebastien's designing for Milan, if I hadn't have read it here, I never would have known. With rare exceptions, do you know who does the costumes for the moves/TV shows you watch? It's interesting, because for their show Tim & Heidi have said it's about more than designing. In today's fashion world, they said, you have to be business savy and think about how to build your brand. That's why they're going to have seamstresses do the actual sewing on their show, because the designers are going to concentrate as much on marketing as on creating. It will be an interesting comparison. It's on Amazon Prime and I believe it debuts on March 27.

It's not cheating as long as she paid her mother and could produce a receipt showing that she paid for the materials/labor. I remember Gretchen had someone make all the jewelry for her collection, and I remember someone else couldn't use the custom-made shoes they had made for their collection because they couldn't produce a receipt/used extra money for it? It was a long time ago; I can't remember who it was.

I'm happy that Geoffrey won, although overall I thought it was a very blah finale. I'm extremely happy that the judges didn't choose Victoria for the winner because her attitude during the season annoyed the heck out of me. I thought she might win after hearing the judges talk during the show about a few of her specific pieces that they all loved. I think her pieces were too ready-to-wear to be declared the winner, in addition to the branding and crocheted hats/purses, as many here have already said. I hope Geoffrey makes good use of his win. He seems so emotionally fragile Sergio really blew it with all his fringe and such. He should have taken all of that out of all of his looks, as the judges tried to tell him when he showed them three looks. I guess he toned some things down for the finale, but he didn't go anyway nearly far enough. I thought many of his pieces during the season were way better than his finale collection.

I saw in interview after the win with Christian and Geoffrey, and Christian asked him about his nervousness, and "almost breakdowns". Geoffrey basically said partly, that is how his works, but also..... he usually runs 7 miles a day and works out in the gym every morning. That is how he gets his fears and challenges out! On this competition, is was just work, sleep, work, sleep. It was intense for him.
Geoffrey also said he is so appreciative of this win, and he is going to not let it go to waste. His scholarship is something he is particularly going to take great advantage of, learning all he can.
Fashion is a tough business for anyone. I think that is why so many of the winners have gone into obscurity. We shall see with Geoffrey, but I do wish him the best.
