Critical it's actually not bad. I only do it part time and I'm picky about the batches I take. It's a nice side gig for extra money.

If I could drive (I technically CAN, but I have severe anxiety about driving) then I know I would for sure work with Instacart. I love shopping, especially grocery shopping.

Could you drive to the store and shop and then not drive the delivery? Nah, I don't drive at all, unfortunately. I can't see very good and plus, I have this persistent thought that I'm going to hit somebody with a car. My anxiety about it is awful so I just Uber everywhere. The only way it would work for me is if I had someone drive me around as I did the shopping and delivery and I could never make someone do that. It would be fun, though.

With services like Shipt and Instacart, the shopper also delivers your order. Same person. I've seen people do it in pairs before. I had one driver with a "co-pilot" who I think was her mother. I've seen others that looked like married couples.
With Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods through Amazon, the shopper is just the shopper. Drivers literally just deliver the orders. It's sort of like ordering groceries for pick up in that the orders get handed off at the door, so to speak.

Instacart actually doesn't allow this. You are supposed to work by yourself. People still do it though, obviously.

I have had at least one Shipt driver who was a young woman with an older woman in her car. I figured it was her mother, riding along so she felt safer (I totally understood). The other delivery pairs I saw were for Amazon Prime Now (defunct grocery delivery) and Whole Foods through Amazon. I don't know what Amazon's policies are on that.
My mom has talked about seeing a pair of guys in the grocery store, both on their phones texting and looking things up. She asked if they ere shopping for a service and they said they were. I don't know if they were driving together too.
I have a friend whose very beautiful, very sweet and very naive 18 year old daughter tried delivering with a service like Uber Eats (can't remember which one) last summer to make money before college. After a really scary run in with a guy who would not take no for an answer and bullied her into giving him her phone number, my friend finally persuaded her to quit - it didn't take much persuasion. BTW, the daughter gave the guy his mother's phone number and boy, did he get an earful when he called! I think he also might have been banned from the service.

Critical because of safety really. If they haven’t had a background check then that can be an issue. If they are another Instacart employee it’s probably ok. Might be frowned upon but better than someone who hasn’t been checked out by Instacart.

Might be frowned upon but better than someone who hasn’t been checked out by Instacart. I figured it might be a liability issue. It's nice that you're able to choose orders. I think they do that with Shipt too. I know from my neighbor who used to deliver for Amazon, you choose shifts, not individual deliveries, so you get what you get.
I will do one more Target order through Shipt since they gave me a free delivery credit, but otherwise, I'm back to Whole Foods via Amazon and Amazon Fresh.

Instacart used to be shifts but you had the option of declining an order. Now it's on demand which sucks. Orders can be taken out from under you like that. When I took some time off I thought they were giving 30 seconds to review an order before accepting but no.

I definitely wouldn't feel comfortable delivering in certain areas of my city. Maybe the change in policy happened because too many shoppers were refusing orders

Grub Hub delivered Von's today. I joked that he forgot my McDonald's burger. Big, huge guy close on 7 feet and he asked if I wanted him to carry the bags inside rather than picking them up to my walker from the doorstep. I put on my mask and said yes, thank you. He put them on my desk/table wished me a good day and scurried out. Perfect as I had lifted the Amazon Fresh order to my walker earlier.

My folks and I share a Shipt subscription - we re-upped last winter when the pandemic decided to not go away AND Shipt had a 50% off deal. We got a year for maybe $60 (I can't remember the exact amount). That's free delivery for orders over $35 and they have a ton of stores. I don't know that we'll continue once Covid goes away, whenever that happens, but it's been nice to have the option. They also go nice offers where you can get $20 off a $60 offer or something similar. The thing I like about Shipt, which is fairly new for them, is that you can "favorite" a shopper. Then, whenever you order, if they're working, they get your order. I have a woman I particularly like. She's a great communicator and she's super fast. Plus, she always puts a sheet mask or some other goodie in the bag. I'm sure she buys them at Dollar Tree, but I think it's a nice touch. I buy those masks there too! The other day, I ordered from Smart & Final, which usually has pretty good produce. They sell it, at least online (I can't remember how they do it in store since I haven't been there in so long!), by the item vs. per pound. So, if you buy a head of cauliflower, a tiny one costs as much as a giant one. I always ask that they get the biggest one they can find because I want to get the most out of my money. WELL, I ended up with a giant cauliflower, 4 sweet potatoes the size of footballs (okay, slightly smaller than a football) and 3 avocados the size of mangoes! I had to laugh, but it's better than getting some puny things for the same price. I chopped up and roasted one of the sweet potatoes and it filled a 9x13 pan. I got 4 meals out of it! The other week ago, I got a 3lb bag of sweet potatoes from Target or Amazon and not only were they a little past their freshness date, some of them looked like little fingers. Not even worth the effort once you cut the spots off and peel them. I'm still heated that Amazon is now charging for Whole Foods delivery, but at least I know I have other good options for produce via Shipt.

I just placed what may be my last Amazon Fresh order. Since they decided to screw over their subscribers and start charging a fee for all purchases under $150, I'm done. WHO decided to go from $35 for free delivery to $150? Why not make it $50 or even $75? I've been using Amazon Fresh for years and, even on a "big shop," I haven't spent $150.
When they started charging $9.95 for Whole Foods delivery, I stopped getting that every few weeks. I've done free pick up at WF once in the last few years. Apparently, they offer free pick up for Amazon Fresh, but the closest location for pick up is 10 miles away. No thank you.
My folks and I have kept our Shipt membership active, so I guess I'll be doing that. I don't mind it, but I preferred AF because it was easier - if you checked out with items in your cart, you'd get them. With Shipt, the shopper is shopping in a store, so things are out of stock and you don't know it until they're there in the aisle looking for the item. Still, NOT paying a delivery fee and I already paid for the Shipt membership.
I've resolved to take advantage of every other part of my Prime membership. If I need one freaking can of beans, I'll order it and they can bring it to me in a box. If they want to take away my free Amazon Fresh delivery, I'm going to order every shelf stable thing I can, so I can get the most out of the money I paid for Prime. No mercy!

I hadn’t ordered on Amazon Fresh for a long while and when I saw that the minimum for free delivery was $150 I was in shock. I’m supposing there are enough billionaires finally to keep them busy? Beats me— but I tried really hard and even with the price of groceries these day, I couldn’t get much beyond $105. So I went back to indtacart. I don’t like them esp for anything fresh. But if I’m desperate I’ll do it. I also have a feeling that if something is heavy. They just say it’s out of stock. Maybe I’m wrong. But I’ve started to wonder.

Received this email from Amazon Fresh this morning:
"Dear Prime member, Thanks for being an Amazon Fresh customer. We are writing to let you know about a change to the Amazon Fresh grocery delivery service fee. As of 10/5, Prime members will now receive free delivery on orders over $100 (reduced from $150). This change is automatically reflected at online checkout."
I'm wondering if they lost a fair amount of business when they increased the amount needed to get free shipping. I know they lost my business.

I think they probably lost a TON of business when they went from $35 to $150 for free delivery. I actually needed groceries today and looked at Amazon Fresh. Here's the problem they're going to encounter now: those of us who weren't willing to spend $150 got used to shopping elsewhere and buying products available at different stores (like the Good & Gather brand at Target). I'm not opposed to shopping with them again, but I'm sort of out of the habit now. Whoever thought up that increase is a dimwit. They could have raised it to $75 and probably made more money. I very rarely placed a $35 order. It was usually around $50 or $60, so upping it to $75 wouldn't have been a big deal. I'd guess that a lot of the customers who left over the $150 minimum may not come back.
ETA: Boy, they're really trying to lure back customers. I just went to the Amazon Fresh homepage and there's a deal for $50 off your next $100 order. I think I might be ordering from them for my next grocery order. As I say about all of those sorts of coupons and deals, "I'll play your little game." Want to give me $10 for ordering pick up at Whole Foods? Done. 40% off for ordering online for pickup in store....and I'm sitting in the parking lot? Totally done that.

Critical, per your post I went over there this morning to place an order. The total came to just under $105 without tips. When I went to put the promotional code in, I was told it wasn't valid for my order. WHAT? That made no sense. I looked at the terms of the offer and it was valid. I had to jump through hoops to find a customer service number. Actually, it was through support chat, and they asked if I wanted a rep to call me, so I said yes, and gave my phone #. At first the rep said that if I hadn't gotten an email with the promotional code, it wasn't valid. I told her it made no sense b/c there's a little green horizontal banner box at the top of the Amazon Fresh page promoting the offer. I tried every which way to get the code to work, even changing delivery times. The rep was of NO assistance at all, so I'm just cancelling my order. This is B.S.

If you look at the fine print it does say it applies only to customers who receive the order via email......OR online ad. What the hell is the banner on their website if not an online ad? Apparently, they don't care about bringing back customers. If I try it, I'm going to be a giant squeaky wheel until they give me the offer.

I feel a bit guilty, but I tried that code tonight and it worked. I don't know how often I'll be making big orders like that, but I also can't resist a good deal. Plus, it's the only place I seem to be able to find the almond milk creamer I like in my tea and it's coming up on hot tea season!

I won't be shopping with them weekly like I used to, but I can see ordering from them once a month. They do carry things I can't find anywhere else. I also like ordering and having it brought to my door without having to text back and forth with a shopper. Still, $100 is more than I generally spend per week, unless I'm buying stuff like toilet paper or cat food. I don't understand why they didn't just go from $35 to $75. I don't think they would have lost a ton of customers with that change.

I ordered again from Amazon Fresh. Saw a promotional code for $20 off a $100 order. This time the code worked. Yay! I honestly didn't feel like going out in this cold weather; we've had snow and I'm always fearful of slipping on the ice.

Has anyone tried a service like Imperfect Foods or Misfit Foods?
I got a code for $10 off my first three orders of $35 or more at Imperfect Foods and I'm curious. I may try it with the discount to see if it would be worth it without the discount.
