Oh my goodness, those first two guys that did the fried chicken were ADORABLE!! They were so excited and supportive of each other. I loved it.

Poor Sid and Sal, they just sorta fizzled out at the end there. I do love watching Gordon in those little cooking demos...

That winning hot/sweet/spicy brownie sounded deee-lish! The editors had me convinced that it was going to be one of the losing dishes they really do enjoy misleading audience expectations and manipulating emotions - frankly, a little of that goes a long way, for me.

The way they repeat 15 seconds of the previous scene before the commercial annoys me. However, there are some good cooks in the mix. Oh, Joe is as fake stiff as usual...ugh.

I like Joe! I think he's entertainingly mean. I think my early favorite is Bowen, but Farhan has some pretty interesting sounding flavors in his dishes. Sal's dish was bloody disgusting at the end. I don't know how anyone can plate that and give it to those three men. I thought it looked like a period on a plate. I know that's gross, but so was the dish!

Joe's so rude! Especially when someone makes a great dish and he just gives them a mean blank stare and turns on his heel and walks off. Then after the commercial you hear that he thinks the dish was great. He likes to undermine the contestants' confidence... not in a way that is helpful to them as a mentor, IMO.
As far as contestants go, I have to give props to Ashley Mincey since she's from Opa-Locka, FL. That is nowheresville and there's nothing there! The fact that she made it onto this show from Opa-Locka is amazing! However - professional grocery shopper from Opa-Locka doesn't ring true. Who is she shopping for? Unless she actually takes care of elderly house-bound people and maybe shopping for them is one of her duties...
I do like Farhan from Chicago a lot. This last episode I started dreaming about - what if there was a way to actually sample the food featured on the show?! Maybe someday in the future we can add other senses to TV besides sight & sound! Because I really wanted to try that dish! :-)
Also like Emily from WI. Looks like she will be a frontrunner, especially with Joe telling her something like - you are the smartest contestant... she'll go far.
