Mmmhmmm.
So much for the "we want to leave TV so our kids will grow up normal" or whatever old chestnuts they came up with when they decided to not continue Fixer Upper. And it's almost been a year since they announced leaving; so enough time for the pesky "non-compete" clause in their contract to be up. Ambition is admirable, but you don't have to lie about it. :/
edit: Apparently Discovery (the network that they're going to) owns HGTV. Hmmm...
Yeah. I thought the same thing. Interesting that Discovery owns HGTV. Maybe they really did want to take time off, and Discovery made them an offer they couldn't refuse.

The original reason they gave was they wanted their children to have a normal life and that they wanted to concentrate more on running their businesses, and filming took up a lot of time. Also, apparently some of the children started having issues with being filmed the older they got and they were concerned about that. Maybe Discovery did make them a good offer, but if I were them I would think hard about why I gave up the show in the first place. They have sweet, well-mannered kids and I've enjoyed watching them grow up...but not at their expense.

Hammer to the Manor - an HGTV pilot www.clarionledger.com/story/news/2018/11/09/pilot-hgtv-hammer-manor-starkville-ms-premieres/1930121002/The problem with HGTV is that is never announces when it airs it's pilots, you just luck into watching them and then wonder if you will get anymore episodes. Throughly enjoyed this pilot and what this brother and sister duo did to the house. Amazing. I am not a big fan of green but this pair painted the dining room a mid dark green that I like, and considering the ceiling height is a good 12 feet tall that is a lot of green, it does look fabulous. I did like how they did not lose the character of the house and yet opened up the casings enough to the kitchen, main hall and living room to give the house a modern look and feel without losing it's original character and charm. The outside facade was an amazing transformation. I just wish they had shown us the entire house.

What the...I have HGTV on a LOT, and I never saw a promo for this show. I'll see if it's listed On Demand... I never see any promos I just luck out and see stuff airing at 11pm and DVR it or just catch stuff on the weekend just channel surfing. They do air a lot of pilots during the 11pm time slot.

I'm very annoyed by this. They showed us those horrible Flip or Flop commercials to infinity but can't even promote their pilot shows? The only reason why I initially caught the original Boise Boys airings and that other show where the blond lady refreshed the homeowner's home and property was because they aired at 11 pm and I'm kind of a night owl. That's an awful time to air a pilot; especially since more than likely their target audience is either in bed or getting ready for it.

Well, I thank you for being the night owl that doesn't watch the 11 PM news. I'm going to have to try out other programming between 11 and midnight as well. Might be fun.

Flip or Flop Atlanta - Nov 15, Season 2 Episode 10
I do wish they would state the square footage as they do not always do that. At least this couple are experienced real estate developers/flippers as they basically took over someones flip. It was interesting to note that while flipping looks easy to use the viewing audience, when you see a flip gone bad you do notice that the floor plan would have been horrible. It's almost as if they were trying to cram in as many bedrooms as possible to get top dollar. I have seen flips on the many realtor websites and they look horrible as all the flipper did was upgrade the finishes and did not attempt to improve a closed in floor plan from a house built in the 40's, 50's, 60's. I did like the kitchen and the darker gray wood texture look cabinets. I don't know if I would like living in such an open floor plan as I am not the neatest person. The new fence looked weird as it looked as if it stopped right before the garden shed. Was there a chain link fence back there? Why didn't they complete the fence around the perimeter of the property?

I'm trying to remember the Flip or Flop house from last week...I do remember those cabinets (loved those) and the big front porch. And them walking up in the beginning, saying they actually liked the brick on that house - and promptly painting over it.

There's supposed to be a new renovation show starting January 1st where the designer fixes up old vintage homes in Chicago. The only reason I found out about it was I was on the HGTV site for a unrelated reason and happened to see a blurb about it on there. HGTV really needs to do a better job of advertising their new shows.

Well, at least they didn't let them paint the brick on that historical house on Flip or Flop last night, but the least they could have done is scrape the flipping paint off the glass after they painted those front windows. So slack. The interior was okay...the kitchen seemed a little dark and I'm still trying to like brass fixtures and hardware... The second house looked so disgusting I could almost smell it through the TV. It came out nice, though. The navy fishscale backsplash was pretty.

I noticed how they were painting the front windows as well -- I was cringing as they were slapping the paint on without having taped anything down.
I also thought it was interesting how they glossed over the fact that the historical house only had the one bathroom upstairs. Usually people make such a deal about having more bathrooms, but the idea never came up this time.
Watching these episodes, it dawned on me that they must manufacture half of the "problems" that come up midway through the flip. There's no way they didn't discuss widening the stairs on the historical house right at the start, even though they seemed to "notice" it later on. And there's no way they didn't have an engineer look at the smelly house for termite problems and/or the bad roof before they bought it -- otherwise they would be the dumbest flippers in the world. They must decide beforehand which "problems" they want to stage as happening later as fake surprises.
(This may already be obvious to veteran HGTV watchers, but I'm new to the scene lol).

On the original Flip or Flop they would inspect the house, have their contractor with them and amazingly never notice the roof needs replacing or that they need new windows, or water heater, or AC. Yeah, it does come across as manufactured problems.

Hell has frozen over because I actually saw a commercial for the Chicago show on HGTV today! It's called Windy City Rehab and it focuses on some of the historical architecture that is unique to Chicago. I'm excited.

Sounds interesting, though I love Prairie Style homes so much that I would have a coronary if someone came in and covered the inside with shiplap and subway tile or otherwise messed with one of those homes in a way that didn't respect its original architecture.

I can't be as bad as Restored by the Fords. I do think I saw a pilot for this last summer where she did this huge renovation. When I saw the pilot for Restored by the Fords it was OK but I don't think I got past the first two episodes of season one before I was seriously gagging at how I didn't like anything they were doing. It gags when I see them referred to as HGTV Stars. Like in whose world?

I was watching Beachfront Bargain Hunt last night and as a Long Islander (NY), I was excited to see last night's episode featured a young couple with a baby and St. Bernard dog, house hunting on the North Fork of Long Island. They had a smallish budget for the area. They chose the home I would have chosen; it was the largest, on an acre of land and needed the most work. It was also the cheapest of the 3, priced at 439K, I believe. The couple said the sellers had drastically reduced the price ( well below the original asking price of 439K) but did not mention by how much. They said the reduced price caused a bidding war but the sellers liked that a young couple with a baby wanted to buy their home and sold it to them for like 389K. I could be off by the numbers but I know it was under $400,000. I was shocked b/c I figured even with the very reduced sale price, the bidding war would have jacked the winning bid much higher. The home seemed to be in very good condition but was just very, very outdated. In time, they could renovate to their taste and budget but it was definitely 'livable ' for now and the couple seemed very happy to be thisclose to the ocean.

Sometimes it is all about the letter and making the seller feel like they are the best fit for the property.

Also, most people want their homes going to people who are actually going to live there for a while and raise kids there than a developer (who might tear it down to build something else) or a flipper (who is just going to throw in some upgrades to sell the house again for a profit). Then you have people who buy housing purely as an investment; they have no intention of living there but they'll hold on to it long enough to sell it at a profit. That's what's going on with NYC right now and their market is discovering that this type of investor is finite and people don't want to move into "fully sold" buildings that are only 40-60% owner-occupied. Lots of buildings going up, lots of vacancies.
In other news, the Boise Boys are still posting tidbits about the new season on Insta. They are very limited in what they can say (and show) but it looks promising. Clint said that they have renovated many different styles of buildings this year and the sneak peeks of the rooms show lots of color. I'm very optimistic about Season 2.

I watch HH International because the HH people are always super critical of the houses that they ultimately end up buying, and it bugs. Why buy a house that you've stated doesn't suit you and that you hate? Plus, most of the regular realtors on HHI (Paris, London, Amsterdam in particular) shut down buyer/renter nonsense really quickly, lol.
I used to love Love it or List it but (as I stated in here before) quit watching it because of way too many homeowners wanting 200k worth of work done for 60k, then cop an attitude when Hilary has to take things off the list, or when the house has some sort of fault that eats into the budget. These same homeowners then get mad at David because they only want to live in a certain area (usually expensive) and the only thing he can find in their (usually tiny) budget is the size of a postage stamp. Some of those people are so unpleasant I'm surprised Hilary or David haven't snapped and cursed them out!
Can't wait for Hometown!
