I thought it was a good show. Of course, Jasmine won for adding great style and more bedrooms/bathrooms. 15k difference. Mina has no poker face. We knew she knew she lost. I loved Jasmine, Mina and Alison's designs. Leanne, not so much. The perfect house for me would be Jasmine's house with her kitchen, Mina's floors and Alison's outdoor fireplace and Leanne's master closet. Here's the open house event this Saturday. I'm thinking of flying down and going with my sister-in-law. web.pardeehomes.com/RocktheBlock

That pool was so small, I think I would have like more sun shelter in the back yards. I did like the bamboo swing used in one of them. The fireplace was good to cover the neighbours but what the heck was the stuff on the backside of it making it look like it was a mantle. Thank you. This thought kept coming to me during the great room/backyard episode but I never wrote about it. There was very little shade provided outside the houses in general. What good is a pergola in a quasi-desert environment? (I don't like pergolas anywhere, but they seem to be a really dumb idea in hot climates)

I want them to do this again and maybe swap the Home Town lady in for someone. I'd love to see Erin and especially Lindsey from Desert Flippers - she would have killed it in this competition.

I am pressuring my sister in law to go without me and take pictures. In turn, she's pressuring my brother to go with her. Anyone in LA can go. It's free!

HGTV is going all out for the Monday premiere of Love It or List It. After the usual afternoon full of reruns, there are 2 old episodes with new commentary by Hillary & David (a la Pop-Up Video or Drag Race RuVealed) before the season premiere.
7PM ET - Hilary and David Tell All: A Hole-in-One Location - A couple disagrees on whether or not to ditch their home. She feels the dated house cannot accommodate their busy family, but he loves their street and cannot dream of leaving it behind.
8PT ET - Hilary and David Tell All: An Artful Promise - A couple loves to entertain and host visiting artists and friends, but one of them wants a home that reflects them both.
9PM ET - On Shaky Ground - (Season Premiere) A real estate broker on the lookout for the perfect family home spotted a diamond in the rough and convinced his wife to buy it. While he sees its unlimited potential, however, she can't see past the long list of fixes, including the cracked ceiling.

I used to really enjoy that show until they started to get really crappy clients who:
- wanted like 250k worth of work done for 35k - wanted David to only stay within a 10 block radius of an expensive area for a unrealistic price - cop an attitude with Hilary when she can't do everything they want - cop an attitude with David when he shows them a house
After watching quite a few shows with that formula I quit watching. Some of those folks were borderline abusive to H and D and that's not entertainment to me.

I only watched this show to see the outcome. I don't like David and I don't like Hillary. When I read that the ending is filmed both ways and the producers decide which ending to use, I stopped watching. What's the point? I STILL don't know if the "Loved it or listed" it.

When I read that the ending is filmed both ways and the producers decide which ending to use, I stopped watching. What's the point? I STILL don't know if the "Loved it or listed" it. All that info came from one article that got enough clicks to make it to the front page of Google searches. I haven't seen many other articles that back up everything that was claimed in it (though a lot of stories quote from it without doing additional research). There was that one couple that sued, but that's one couple. None of the others did. If you realized how many of the shows on that channel are more scripted than you think (especially House Hunters), you'd never turn the channel on again. I still watch the show because I'm entertained, and I like to see the houses get transformed. Hillary and David don't bother me, I like Hillary. It's when the couple is a pain in the ass that an episode can turn sour. They keep only rerunning the South Carolina episodes on Mondays, so it's easy to avoid shows I don't like or have seen too many times. Luckily, Hulu runs the older Canadian shows, most of which I haven't seen before, so that keeps me interested.

Oh, I know the shows are very scripted and I know that on House Hunters the houses were purchased (or rented) long before filming commences. But that doesn't bother me. At least the house they "choose" on the show is the house they actually acquired. The same is true on Fixer Upper and probably all the similar shows. But, at least you know that the house you are seeing is the house they actually bought.Love it or List It is formatted as a competition between Hillary and David, but you never find out who actually "won". If that article was not truthful, you would think that someone would have come out and said it in an interview.

Thanks for the heads up, MFWalkoff. I really enjoy LIOLI but truly wish they'd film elsewhere. I am kind of tired of the NC locale. It was insane, though, how expensive the Toronto homes were, even way back when! Hilary and David's banter/ bickering don't bother me; I realize it is just for show. What does bother me are the homeowners who want champagne on a beer budget!

Finally got to see the finale of Rock the block. I’m glad Jasmine won. Loved her curb appeal with the stone on the bottom of the house. Over all nice house. Happy for her and her husband on the up coming baby.
Hated Alisons’s front with all those bushes down the walkway. They made it look over grown before you even moved in. Didn’t like all her burned wood either.
I don’t think taking the storage closet from the garage is a good idea. That room was unusable to me. It would go back to storage but harder to get too...lol
Have no words for Leanne’s house, so much white. Moved the front door but what useable space did you get, extra front hall space. They didn’t even mention the lack of floor boards in there appraisal.
Hope they do this again. I loved watching the Australia version with regular people doing it and decorating.

I recorded all 3 new episodes of Love It or List It last night but only watched one episode so far. It was the episode where the husband was a real estate broker and the ranch home had a lot of cracks in the ceilings and they needed a 4th bedroom. Here is the episode description: :Season 15, Episode 3
On Shaky Ground
A real estate broker on the lookout for the perfect family home spotted a diamond in the rough and convinced his wife to buy it. While he sees its unlimited potential, however, she can't see …"
What I am confused about are the way the seasons are listed for this show. I'd have never realized that season 15 is the newest season b/c if you go to the HGTV website and click on the LIOLI show, where it lists episodes, there is actually a season 20. HGTV seems to do this with a lot of their shows, including the House Hunters franchise. I only realized it was season 15 b/c I checked the TV Guide listings online. Weird.
With this particular episode I felt the budget was too small to accomplish all the wife wanted. The house was valued at 370K and their budget for renovations was 115K. Their budget for a new home was 600K. The new value of the remodeled home was $510,000. They decided to list and buy the newer, larger home that had the 4th bedroom they needed. However, the new home was $639,000, which was almost 40K over budget. Perhaps with negotiation they could get the price down a bit lower. It's too bad they couldn't come up with more money b/c Hilary did have a solution for that 4th bedroom they needed. Their children were still quite young so I guess things like schools didn't factor much into their decision. I hate moving so I'd do anything in my power to stay, especially if the children were school-age.

^ That's the only new episode so far. The other two I listed were reruns, but with little bits of info displayed on the screen about Hillary and David every once in a while. It wasn't even specific info related to the episodes, so it was kind of lame.
The big thing I was wondering about with the new season was who the contractor would be, since we knew Eric wasn't returning. The new guy Hank seems fine.
My big quibble with the new episode was that the cracks in the ceilings were obviously going to be a repair expense, and it just seems silly when Hilary doesn't acknowledge these things when they are talking budgets in the beginning.

Windy City Rehab is a little closer to finishing its second season, but it's not out of he legal woods yet. ------------------------------ HGTV’s ‘Windy City Rehab’ Gets Stop-Work Orders Lifted By Chicago - DeadlineHGTV’s Windy City Rehab stars Alison Victoria Gramenos and Donovan Eckhardt have resolved at least some of their differences with Chicago officials over code and permit violations. The stars were blocked in mid-summer from filing new work permits by the city, which issued several stop-work orders. That put the series in jeopardy, since it focuses on restoring Chicago homes, as its title suggests. Eckhardt’s real estate developer and general contractor licenses were suspended by the Chicago Department of Buildings, That meant they couldn’t work on the properties in development, and finding new ones was futile. Now, the city has apparently been satisfied on some aspects of the dispute, and some of the stop-work orders have been lifted. However, new work orders are still barred, dating back to the mid-summer suspension. The issue was work performed without a permit, working outside of plans approved by the city without permission, either making a false statement on a permit or aiding someone in doing so, and permitting occupancy of a property before a city inspection. Until all the issues are resolved, the Windy City team can only work on the buildings where the stop-work orders were lifted. The show was greenlit for a second season before the stop-work orders went into effect. HGTV insists the show is still in production. During the hiatus, Alison Victoria Gramenos appeared in the HGTV competition Rock the Block, which was won by Jasmine Roth. The popular HGTV show Windy City Rehab is in trouble with Chicago officials over construction permits. If the disputes are not resolved, it could jeopardize the future of one of the highest-rated shows on the channel. The city has suspended the construction permit privileges of series star Alison Gramenos, who goes by Alison Victoria on the show, and those of co-star and lead contractor Donovan Eckhardt. The suspension notice for Gramenos’ various LLCs list allegations including performing or directing work without proper permits, making false statements on permit applications, and performing or directing “work that poses an immediate or imminent threat to the health and safety of workers or the public.” The Chicago Department of Buildings also said it has suspended Greymark Development Group, owned by Eckhardt, from pulling permits in Chicago. The city also has applied to suspend the group’s licenses for one year. An appeal by Greymark and Eckhardt has already been denied. The city is still determining whether it will uphold the license suspension. On Windy City Rehab, Victoria and lead contractor Eckhardt tackle the job of flipping houses in Victoria’s hometown of Chicago. Her focus is on vintage fixer uppers in historic neighborhoods that will attract high-end buyers.| Gramenos posted to Instagram today with her side of the story. “I want you to hear it from me directly that I am working closely with the City of Chicago to repair and amend any and all permits with our new general contractors,” she wrote. “The building department says they are pleased with our efforts and we will continue to work closely together to move in the right direction.” “Issues related to Windy City Rehab have been carefully reviewed,” HGTV said in a statement. “Appropriate parties are in communication with local building officials and working to resolve any outstanding issues.” HGTV said at this year’s TCA that Windy City Rehab was its highest-rated freshman series in more than a year, which prompted the network to pick up 10 episodes for a second season. Windy City Rehab, per HGTV, ranked as the No. 1 series for them in viewers P25-34 and is a top 10 cable program among women 25-54 in the Tuesday 9-10 p.m. ET/PT time slot. The first season drew 9.3M-plus viewers since it premiered on Tuesday, Jan. 1, at 9 pm ET/PT.

Either someone on their crew made direct complaints to the city (could be, remember that guy from last year that took her money, didn't do the work, got mad because she replaced him and said he was going to the city if he didn't get more money?) or she's made some powerful enemies here (she's abrasive plus she's a woman working in a predominantly male field, I can see someone wanting to screw her over just because of that). Also, apparently a lot of neighbors living near her worksites have complained about noise, trash, working hours, etc.

HGTV says it was their "highest-rated freshman series in more than a year," but how many freshman series did they have this year? Most of their shows have been around a while.

The son designer was kind of adorable, otherwise it didn't stand out much.

I don't think I've commented on any of the Flip or Flop shows lately because they've all been the same white/gray/black kind of thing. Perfectly nice homes, but nothing that really stands out to comment on. I think last night's was the season finale... Christina on the Coast is coming back soon. It didn't seem to be that popular, so I don't know how it got renewed. Meanwhile, a really good show like Boise Boys gets no love. Sigh.

I am so angry at what they did to Boise Boys and I think they are too; they're no longer promoting HGTV on their Instagram and are basically promoting buildings they've worked on and local projects. People have written to HGTV asking about it and they've been mum. It had decent ratings; I wonder what happened?
