Frying Tonight - The Top 13 contestants face a mystery box challenge with a stockpot and cooking oil and are tasked with making a dish that features a deep-fried element.

Once the mystery box challenge was over & the result was announced, I pretty much abandoned the show for the night. I did peek back once in a while, just to see what they were cooking, but I wasn't going to watch the glowering "overwatcher" reveling in success. BLECH!!

Right? Every ten seconds they had to pan up to that grinning vulture and her silly expressions. It ruined the damn show.
Poor ol' Ralph, I liked him. Honestly, I thought Shanika's dish looked unappealing - two big brown blobs on a plate with sauce drizzled around them - but I guess the editors thought it was her turn up top. Sigh.

I agree...plus that reptilian thing coming out of her head was off-putting

I honestly have no idea how some of these chefs are in the Top 12 tbh. I guess the judges want to see them improve more. I wasn't expecting Ralph to go that was a tough one

I was playing on the fact that it looks like she has a tall fez or something on her head with a giant long braid growing out the top and trailing way far down. And I realize that it's held tightly together (like, as a "unit"), but the tail end of the "unit" hangs down a lot farther (and dangles around out of control) than when the others tie their hair up close to their head.

I am catching up with MasterChef... I'm so far behind!!
Shanika is hard to root for. She's bitter and confrontational. BUT I really did like the flavor combination in her arancini. It didn't look super as far as plating goes, but I'm assuming the taste made up for it. I feel like she's either getting a villain edit or she's really a sourpuss.
Who knew citrus dishes would be so hard? I figured they'd all pull a staple and put their own spin on it.
I didn't see Ralph as the winner so I'm not surprised to see him go. I actually don't see SJ going much further, though.
