I read comments on the TLC FB page before it aired here and decided to give it a pass. SO tired of so many wasted episodes...and seeing so many wasted opportunities. It’s shocking how many people seem to just want to die rather than stop eating everything in sight. For me, the only reason to watch these episodes is to see Dr. Now get more and more blunt.
I saw on FB that she told Dr. Now that she only eats once a day. I believe it. Every day is just one long meal for these people. Oh, and there was a clip on FB of them in the car where she talked about how she was “starving.” Honey, I doubt you’ve ever actually been starving in your life.
I have a friend whose kids used to tell her they were starving all the time. She had to have a talk with them and explain that no, they were not starving: they were hungry. Then they had a talk about what starvation really is.

I read the comments and I'm glad I took a pass. The whole family is a mess, drug addicts.... God knows what other illegal activities they are up to. Like, I said TLC struck gold with Assanti..... people were talking for days about him (and still do), so they are hoping to hit gold again. Sorry, but I'm taking a pass. All these losers are a waste of time. I want to see someone at least try! I want someone with a normal life that just happens to be obese, like an Amber or a Justin. Heck even Cillas was a good story. I will say that Dr. Now seems to be getting fed up with these people!

Did you notice how she tried flirting with Dr Now to get him to get her an apartment in Houston? The daughter smoking while pregnant...they were all smoking with that little girl in the house! Why do these patients think they deserve weight loss surgery instead of earning the right?

This wouldn't be the first show to be ruined by producers casting for drama. Maybe lots of people love the trainwrecks, but I watch this show - and I know a lot of other people do as well - to see the success stories or at least to see people TRYING to better themselves. It's especially frustrating (not the right word really - maybe infuriating is better) to see these people waste their opportunities when we saw Kelly work so hard to turn her life around only to die in her sleep. If I read the spoilers and see that the person is rude or awful and doesn't even try, I don't even watch. If this becomes a trend, I'll just delete the series from my DVR

I made the mistake of watching this episode today. Wow. WOW. Sooo many adjectives to describe her, some of them not suitable for this site. What an obnoxious, entitled, lying sack of crap. I love how she was loaded up on weed and narcotics at the end and thought Dr. Now wouldn't see that in her bloodwork. Huge waste of time.

Is this a new one? What was her name?

It was last week's episode (I was just catching up). Her name was Angie J., and she was a miserable excuse for a human being. ETA: Dr. Now was a savage this episode with his comments, it was the only thing that made it worthwhile.

Much better episode this week with Vianey and Allen (two for one!). I think they won the prize for most food eaten in one sitting, too. I didn't think they'd make it to Houston at first - could they seriously not stop and pick up the mattress that flew away? - and with Allen sneaking off to the drive-thru all the time, I was going to write them off. But after all the drama, they did pretty well. I'd like to see a WATN with these two... Has anyone ever died on the operating table before? I'm glad they were able to bring her back, that was scary.

I didn't watch but the first 10 minutes of this episode and turned it. When he cooked them breakfast and they ate all that food because that is what they lived for I figured they would be another failure.

I was also thinking it would be another failure, but I liked them from the start. I can see how much they love each other and was very touched how Allen put Vianey first. I wish them the best of luck.
But yes, I kept thinking go get the mattress! Or at least see where it ended up!

could they seriously not stop and pick up the mattress that flew away? RIGHT!? It’s not as if it was just the two of them, neither of whom could have gotten it back into the truck. They had help! Why wouldn’t they just go back and at least see if the mattress was salvageable? Considering how much they both eat, it’s not surprising that they ran out of money. Oh, and why on earth would she pack the paperwork she needed to get the apartment in some random box? You start to see why their lives are out of control. They don’t seem to have any agency over their own lives. They just let things happen and then get upset when it goes badly. That part of the episode was more frustrating to me than the weight aspect. I don’t think there’s been anyone who coded during their surgery. I’m always surprised when the surgery goes well, considering what terrible shape most of them are in. I’m glad she came through and seems to be on the path to getting healthier, but she didn’t seem to really understand the seriousness of the situation - she was just upset about not getting the surgery.

Someone did mention that the mattress was lost on the highway and imagine those 4 out there trying to get it back. I think the best thing would have been once they were pulled over, call the police.

They "lost" it when it flew off the back of the truck. It was only a minute or so before they pulled over. How could it have disappeared? Unless it happened off camera, they didn't even make an effort to go back and look for it. They were in the right lane, so it might have just ended up on the shoulder. They fussed about having no money, but didn't even TRY to look for that mattress. If it was in the middle of the road, then maybe they should have called the authorities, but they didn't even make the effort to look.

I started watching some of the Angie J episode. Her husband helps take care of her a lot, and she is being very rude and ignorant towards him. So far on the way to Houston she has called him a loser several times and a waste of life. This coming from the person who was in prison various times. I don't know how he can stand to live in that household. Angie's daughter thinks that he might have gotten married to try to use her for something. What exactly is he using her for though? She doesn't have money. She's around 650 pounds and can barely get of bed.

Yeah, I read that he was an addict too, and perhaps selling/using her prescription opioids. Who knows. They both looked high several times during filming.
That whole episode was just gross.

Oh, dear GOD. The Assanti brothers are back tonight. After the first episode with them, I was done. Didn't even watch the whole thing and deleted the second episode from my DVR. Now they're giving them a THIRD episode!? Hard pass

The Assanti Brothers Sh*t Show continues. Oh, why did I watch that? None of them have changed - Justin is still an overgrown baby, Steven is still a drugged up, smelly sociopath, and dad just keeps on trying to push them together causing more drama. Gawd. Two things that made me yell at the TV: when Steven was feeding his poor cat pizza and it was getting sick (and screeched at his dad when he tried bring him actual cat food), and dad stealing Justin's pain pills from his surgery to give to Steven, then proceeding to yell at Justin for getting mad about it. How is that helping an addict? I won't even get into what Steven did to his hair. They're all disgusting.

Much more fun! Ahh.... the memories of those shows.

Yes, the live All in the Family/Jeffersons show Wednesday was hilarious.
Tonight they had a married couple who ended up showing successful weightloss, teamwork and love. It was one of the best. And it showed the dangers of surgery. The wife's heart stopped on the table, and they had to stop the planned stomach surgery.

I'm glad Janine was successful and got her surgery - after not doing so well for a while - but MAN, she was irritating. The fake crying, the phony sing-song-y baby voice, talking with her eyes closed, the refusal to get up and try to walk...ugh. I thought her butt was glued to that scooter for a while. At least she did take care of her cat properly, unlike that dipsh*t from last week.

Well, at least we had Sarah this week. She lost a ton of weight, didn't whine, followed the plan. She looked great at the end. Then there's Lee, who told Dr. Now that he only ate twice a day and did have some fruit - not on the diet plan - so that must have made him gain weight. Sure, buddy. After he revealed that he "accidentally" hit Rena with a frying pan, I was done with his man-baby crap and really didn't care what happened to him. At least he cut that stupid rat-tail off the back of his lumpy head. I'm assuming Rena refused to film anymore after dumping Lee? She sorta just disappeared. I would have much preferred to see her story over Lee's.

They definitely need to get Sarah to a psychologist/psychiatrist AND a nutritionist. That amount of hair loss - enough to require a wig - is not normal. Yeah, maybe she's stressed, but that also could point to some nutritional issues. That wig looked, well, like a wig. Big time. She did really well with her weight loss once her mom was out of the picture and she's one of the few who's been able to get a job during filming, but I wish Dr. Now had looked into the issues with her hair loss.
Lee is a garbage human. They shouldn't have even given him the airtime after the first time he admitted abusing Rena. I would've rather seen Rena's story, but I understand why she needed to distance herself. Once an abuser, always an abuser. He's repugnant.
I do enjoy the follow-up episodes. It's so hard to see much progress in the first year, especially since it often takes so many of them SO much time to even get with the program and qualify for their WLS.

I'm not sure if it's a recent episode, but I was watching one about a woman with gold grills who sounded like Marilyn Monroe. She said her boyfriend broke up with her cause he's only attracted to obese women and didn't want her to lose weight. I guess he enjoyed having her confined to a bed 24/7 and replacing her bed pan. It seemed a little confusing as to why he was even involved in her weight lost regimen to begin with if that was the real reason they broke up.

Last night was the final part of Sean, the young man who passed away not long ago. I watched just a little bit but it was too depressing, that I had to turn it off.

Yeah, it was pretty sad, even knowing the outcome beforehand. He had such drastic weight changes - up and down - I'm surprised he lasted as long as he did. He really did not do well on his own at home, with no family or friends, all he did was eat. And nobody ever taught him how to cook or do much of anything, really. Poor guy. Dr. Now tried his best.

There is a lot of speculation as to his mental health. I'm sure he suffered from depression. Did he have other mental challenges or was he on the spectrum? I don't know. Even if he did or was, given a normal upbringing his life could have been so much different. Imagine a family that encouraged him to do things and be the best he could be despite any possible disabilities. But he didn't have that. He had a football injury when he was like 17 which made him pretty much bedridden and began this cycle of over feeding and babying from his mother. I wonder how he was before that. Did he have friends? If so what happened to them? Or was he living the same with the difference being that he actually went to school and had some form of socialization. He was on a team, did not the coach wonder about him? Or a teacher?

There was no football injury. Here's a quote from Sean.
"By the time I was in high school I was over four hundred pounds. And my senior year in high school I had a really bad leg injury. I fell down some stairs, my ankle twisted, and I had two detached ligaments in my leg. And that injury made me bed bound, and prevented me from finishing my senior year."
I think we can all probably agree that a teenager with a leg injury should not cause him to be bedridden for life. Lots of dysfunction involving both him and his mother.
