I just binged the final season of Casual. It was surprisingly good and I may or may not still have wet tears from the final scene. I watched Mary Kills People a few months back. Good watch. I also recommend Good Behavior. Really enjoyed it. Watched OITNB last Sunday and loved every second. I am about to start Dietland with Julianna Margulies. Oh. I didn't realize Dietland was available already. I really enjoyed the book, so I'll be interested to see how the show is. I will let you know my thoughts when I am finished.

I'm watching Dark Tourist. It's a docuseries about a journalist from New Zealand who travels to all these disturbing places around the globe. Or, if not disturbing, then intriguing.

I gave up on Dietland. The narration and animation kept throwing me off. I just couldn't get into it.

Ugh! Watching 'Anne with an E' LOVE how there are gay characters, and yes I cried over Gertrude and Josephine. I had to stop watching and post because...tears! That's so interesting. I don't remember any gay character in the series. Who are they? And would you mind very much saying a few words about what their storyline is? Thanks so much, beerbelly. She has a friend Cole, who is an artist and is bullied. After they go to Aunt Josephine's party, where they find out that Josephine is still missing her partner Gertrude, Cole comes out to Josephine and Anne. Cole also suspects that his teacher, who picks on Cole, is also gay and that's why he picks on Cole all the time. I love this series (I never watched the original series).

Thanks for the info, beerbelly! I'm so glad these issues are included in the story. The original stories were written a very, very long time ago, and are very traditional. It's nice to see that the newest version includes some issues that are relevant to today's world, and are positively represented.

A friend of mine is binging Unforgotten with Nicola Walker and recommended it to me. I love her, but haven't seen the show. Anyone else watched it? I think it's a PBS series.
I've been too distracted to focus on something new, so I've just been re-binging Banshee again. For the second time in a week.

MrCoz and I just binged watched Churchill's Secret Agents: the New Recruits one Netflix. We enjoyed it a lot. It was interesting to see them immersed in the 40's. I enjoyed the little history lessons thrown in as well as the glimpse of real SOE agents.
My favorite thing was watching the people and their "journeys". I loved seeing them step beyond what they thought they could do, as well as overcome some fears. I cheered right along with their teammates when they accomplished things they didn't think they could.

I've been catching up with The Alienist. I've only been watching one episode a day because the subject matter is heavy; it's not a light show you can binge.

I binged all twelve episodes of Insatiable on Netflix on Friday and Saturday. Normally, I probably wouldn't have watched it, but all the fussing about it being fat-shaming and calling for it to be removed from Netflix made me tune in. I'm a fan of forming an educated opinion and I don't have any patience for people passing judgements about shows/movies they haven't even watched.
I was pleasantly surprised. It's definitely not for everyone, but it's absolutely NOT what a lot of the people whining about it online say it is. It's sort of a combination of the Disney Channel meets John Waters and Desperate Housewives.... with a little Heathers thrown in. Super campy and over-the-top, but also touching at times. I laughed out loud.
I think the people who hadn't seen it heard "girl loses weight after getting her jaw wired shut, gets hot and then sets out to exact revenge" aren't getting the actual story. The lead character has her jaw wired shut after she's assaulted and she naturally loses weight after being on a liquid diet for 3 months. Even though she's then beautiful, she realizes her life still isn't perfect, she still feels insecure about her appearance and she's actually not a very good person. Basically, being thin doesn't magically solve her problems.
Anyway, JMHO, but it's worth a look if you're into this sort of thing. I thought it was funny and weird and better than some "critics" (who clearly have an agenda) will lead you to believe. Will it win any Emmys? Probably not, but that's true of most shows.
Now I'm watching Saving Hope on Hulu. It's a medical drama where one of the characters - the fiance of the lead - ends up in a coma after an accident in the first episode. She continues her work as a doctor, while he watches over everything as sort of a "coma ghost." I know, I'm totally selling it, aren't I? It's not nearly as "woo" as it sounds. I started watching because of The Originals ending. I need my Daniel Gillies fix. I couldn't stand not having him on my TV, so I found this show. He's even sexier with an accent

Thanks, Critical! I'll have to check out Insatiable. I hadn't heard anything about it. (I do like those shows you referenced in trying to describe it.)

Insatiable is really good! It reminds me of when I lost a lot of weight in middle school and what I expected my life to be like once I was skinny. My reality was that nothing really changed and I gained the weight back. I thought I would get a ton of friends, have a boyfriend, and more opportunities would come my way but everyone still ignored me.
Now I wouldn't like to be like the lead character in Insatiable. She seems to have serious anger management problems in addition to an eating disorder but I did like seeing her get back at people who bullied her and setting new goals for herself.
I enjoyed the whole twisted cast, too, especially her coach Bob and his rival.

I think people who don't understand satire OR who just want to find fault with ANY depiction of a heavier person (particularly one losing weight) are the ones freaking out about Insatiable. As ridiculous as it sounds, there are people out there who believe anyone losing weight is an attack against fat people. My feeling is, mind your own business and live your life. Not everything is about you, especially not a TV show on Netflix! I don't know how many people Insatiable will appeal to. There are those who will read the reviews and believe them and there are people who just don't understand it. It's pretty over-the-top. It's sort of in the same vein as Santa Clarita Diet. I really enjoyed it. Like I said above, I laughed out loud. In particular, I thought Dallas Roberts (what can't that guy do!?) and Christopher Gorham as the two Bobs were excellent.

I'm on season 5 of Saving Hope and now getting sad that I'm approaching the end of the series. It's shockingly gruesome at times - I say this and I watch American medical dramas - but I love it.
A few days ago as I was watching an episode, I realized that one thing NO ONE ever talks about on this show, in the context of treating patients and/or determining treatment, is MONEY. Not once. SO different from American medical shows where that always seems to be an issue. On this show, they don't even care who the patient is - wealthy, homeless, doesn't matter - they all get the same level of care. Imagine that!

I've been watching a fun show on Netflix called Stay Here. It's Genevieve Gorder and a real estate guy, whose name I don't remember, turning vacation rental properties into places you'd really want to stay and showing the owner how to properly market them and provide a top-notch experience. I've watched four episodes, so far: a houseboat on Lake Union in Seattle, a beach house on Malibu Rd. in Malibu, a cute house with a pool in Austin's South Congress neighborhood, and a brownstone in Brooklyn's Bed-Sty (the neighborhood that Biggie Smalls and Jay-Z and others came from).
They do a good job with renovating the properties and talking about how to market them. The only thing that bugs me is that they don't tell us how much they spent on the renovations, and they don't tell us anything about what happened after they left. Did the homeowner see the kinds of uptick in rentals that they promised? Is the owner successfully following through on the type of service they were told to provide? Inquiring minds want to know these things. Other than that, I really like the show.

^^^ I just saw the previews for that one, MissG and was interested. Those things you mentioned - no follow-up on how the makeover helped the owners and no info on the budget - would bug me too. I've got it in my queue and I'm going to give it a try. I like Gen a lot, so she's enough to make me want to watch a few episodes to see if I like it.

It seems like most of the shows I like are an hour, and I don't always want to commit to that much time, so it's nice to have a short option. Sadly, I think there are only eight episodes.

Just added that Stay Here to my list - sounds interesting!
I've been watching I Am a Killer on Netflix...I feel for a couple of the guys (horrible upbringings, fell into the wrong group of people), but some of them just seem unrepentant. Especially the first one, he reminded me of Woody Harrelson's character in Natural Born Killers. Scary guy.

I'm just getting caught up with Handmaid's Tale, after hearing so much about it. I'm renting the discs, so it's been slow-going, but I'm almost done with the season. It's so good! Scary, but good.
I've also spent this summer on The Crown, and Better Call Saul. Now that the 4th season has started, I'm recording it, and saving up the episodes so I can binge watch it like I'm used to!

I blew through three seasons of Seven Year Switch - or most of three seasons, since season 3 is still airing. Light and fun and sort of a guilty pleasure-type show.
Now I'm doing Deadwood.

Currently binge watching Season 2 of Project Runway and man, I miss this show when it was good and any drama happened organically (instead of casting drama queens on the show). Santino being messy! Daniel Franco being noble! Maura making a direct rip of the dress they were shown in the dossier! Zulema telling Kara to cry and cut! I haven't gotten to Andre at Red Lobster and the model walkoff yet, but it's coming. So many good TV moments.

I took a little break from the f-bombs of Deadwood to binge Stay Here. SO MUCH FUN! I do agree, Miss G that they should give a little follow-up about the property AND include budget numbers for the renovations. Maybe they'll do that if there's a second season.

That and M*A*S*H. I just started Disenchantment on Netflix - I like it! If you enjoyed Futurama, you might want to check it out. I hope they do more of the Stay Here, too, those are fun to watch.

I'm about halfway through binge-watching "Death in Paradise." Then, this morning, I found a link to the original first season of Great British Bake-Off. Sorry, Humphrey . . . I'll get back to ya!! Critical . . . I watched Unforgotten. Nicola Walker is awesome, and I thought the series was very well done.
