Eastcoastmom, We’ve been out of town all day today, this is my first chance to get back at Fort, so I apologize for the delay in answering.
Alice and Jack is a 6 episode series. I think the 3rd episode is just ok, but as I said, I let it roll over to the next episode. It gets more interesting each episode and then intriguing. So, hang in there.

Yes! I wasn't sure after watching that first Nolly episode. But, I was surprised and delighted after watching the remaining episodes, especially the third one. If anyone is wondering what happened to Noele, "Nolly" after Crossroads, here is the answer. (with a lovely picture of her)
If you wish to know what parts of Episode 3 is Fact or Fiction click the link below:

I wasn't sure at first about watching it but I am super glad I did! Helena Bonham Carter was magnificent.

Tomorrow (April 7th) in the formerly Nolly timeslot, 9/8c.: Mr Bates vs The Post Office, the show that was one of the most-watched drama premieres in the UK since Downton Abbey! (That could be because it pertains to the post office scandal that affected so many postal workers in the UK. Watch the Preview it looks good). Little guy vs the Giant. In Episode 1, mysterious financial losses lead the UK Post Office to fire and prosecute village Subpostmasters, who have no way to prove their innocence. Mr Bates Preview

First episode of Mr Bates vs the Post Office sure had me riled up. I kept thinking how could this happen? Which I guess explains how much I love Mr Bates for refusing to sign off on his daily tally, and refusing to pay the fines. But, this occurred in late 1990’s and many people were just not technologically familiar back then. The PBS newsletter link provided below gives some background information on how the postal system and Horizon worked back then. Unlike the US federal postal system, Britain’s Post Office is a state-owned private company. Self-employed branch managers (or Subpostmasters) work for, and are under contract with, the Post Office. The Horizon launch “to 13,000 busy, non-technical Subpostmasters was hasty, and training was inadequate for the scale of the transformation in the workflows involved,” reports The Guardian (UK). It was a time without today’s “social media” and technology serving as a platform to expose problems, injustices, or corporate dishonesty. Mr Bates vs Postal Office

Did anyone watch the special about the real Mr. Bates? It was quite good and I enjoyed seeing the real life people. I really hope these people get more money for the hell they went thru.

I wanted to include this for anyone who enjoyed Mr Bates as much as I did. PBS includes the timeline of events from the beginning to present. Interesting to note is that King Charles stripped Paula Vennells of her CBE in February 2024.
You can still watch for a limited time the Real Story of Mr Bates

It was a good documentary wasn’t it? I really enjoyed seeing the real people, hearing more of their individual stories. That one dear woman who tried suicide and was given electric shock therapy in the hospital, then lost her childhood memories. I was so relieved that Mr Bates (with his dogged persistence), his postal colleagues, and their legal team successfully brought attention to that injustice. Thankful that public outrage, truth and justice also made its mark.

We watched the first episode of MaryLand last night. It's been getting mixed reviews, but we liked it. Looking forward to next week.

Anything that has a mystery element wrapped within it is intriguing to me. I enjoyed the first episode, and look forward to the second. My sister and I are close. We often watch shows at the same time then text after it's aired, occasionally during, if something shocking happened. At the beginning of this first episode I said jokingly, "I don't want to be the old craggy sister", then quickly changed my mind to not wanting to be either. My siblings and I are very harmonious, have never fought. Even when we were small, the three of us (brother in between in age) laughed, played, and helped each other lovingly. We've always been strong supporters of each other. So, that element of 'disharmony' between the sisters is foreign and harsh. I know the show is dubbed a story of bonding between two sisters, so I look forward to observing the dynamics between them continue to play out. Also, I love seeing Stockard Channing in anything. There is more to the mystery then expected.

There is more to the mystery then expected. My sister hasn't spoken to me for years. When our father remarried, I kept in touch, she didn't. She made his life a misery, I just thought, if this woman makes him happy, why not. When he passed at 69, I was by his bedside( I flew to the uk and stayed with them) . I didn't even think about a will, but I was in it, she wasn't. I think that's when she stopped talking to me, even though I missed our relationship, sent cards etc. She preferred to play the martyr or something. I don't miss her in my life now, I'm too old to care. I find family dynamics interesting, other families, not mine.
