The first episode was about the Jehovah's Witnesses. Wow. Powerful stuff. I always thought the JW's were a little strange but I had no idea that they also had a cruel and evil side to them. What irritates me the most about them is that they call themselves Christian while practicing very unChristian-like behavior. So sad to see so many likes destroyed...

Wow, you have my interest piqued and I will have to find this episode On Demand as well as record the series. Wasn't Michael Jackson a Jehovah's Witness, as well as Prince? In elementary school my son's classmate was JW and he was not allowed to celebrate birthdays of any kind. Poor kid had to be sent to another classroom each time a classmate's 🎂 was being celebrated.

Yes, the Jacksons are JWs and so was Prince. Serena and Venus Williams are too. The show was quite good. I knew a lot of the dirty stuff that goes on with them. I remember years ago when I was like 13 getting a hold of a Watchtower tract.... I had never heard of the JW before. The tract was disturbing. I can't imagine letting children read this stuff. I also have worked with JW in the past. One woman was probably the most miserable woman I had ever known. A co-worker went to her wedding and said it was a real somber and weird affair. Nothing really to celebrate..... they had a ceremony and than had cold cuts and just stood around. The other recently that I worked with was a very pleasant and funny person, however we had to curtail out Christmas/winter holiday party. Gee, force your faith on me! And they did talk about how when they were kids being excluded from so many different things. I can't imagine how miserable it has to be to never celebrate anything. And the two witness rule is just God awful!

Oh and I do remember, they don't read the Bible, they read Watchtower that gives them "pieces" or "meals" of quotes and an explanation. They also don't believe in that God, the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are the same. They are three separate entities.

If you ever encounter a JW at your door, the quickest way to get them to flee is saying you believe in the Holy Trinity and that they are one in the same. I believe that anyway but I have never seen someone scurry away from my door in such a hurry... It was like I said something that so offended them that they couldn't be in my presence. I don't judge anyone for what they do or don't believe in but that religion always made me wonder...

I worked RETAIL 10000 of yearssssss ago with a young lady who was absolutely lovely that was a JW........she.hated.it. HATED EVERYTHING ABOUT IT.
She complained to me privately all the time how horrible this life really is. She said her parents were both brought up in regular Christian homes YET when they married they both joined the JW 'cult' and she said its just not fair to her.
She spoke all the time of the elders in the 'cult' that RULED THEIR LIVES.
She longed to make enough money to get out of their home.
She would complain bitterly that her parents grew up celebrating EVERY SINGLE HOLIDAY yet her parents did NOT allow anything holiday related in their home.
She put a small little tiny Christmas tree on her bureau and her parents saw it and told her to THROW THAT AWAY.
This was back in 1990 and her brothers and her were not allowed to go to school that her parents 'homeschooled' them.
Back then I knew NO ONE that did that and HOW were these parents capable of homeschooling three children.
She said they were very poor. That the Mom would go to consignment shops to buy their clothes.
Dating was really odd.......you had to be approved by the ELDERS to be allowed to date and then you needed chaperones.

libgirl2 ......I saw them coming all the time in my neighborhood. (This is when I lived in MA). They would park their cars and then piles would get out and go door to door. Well this one time, I answered the door (as they can be RELENTLESS ringing the doorbell). So I took my landline with me and acted like I was actually speaking on the phone. Told them quickly. "I am sorry I am on a long distance call" .... as they said OK bye bye MY DAMN PHONE ACTUALLY RANG.......... I WAS BUSTED. BUT I just shut the door. I have been in SoCAL for 10 years now and I never see them around where I lived EVER.

I hope that she got out and has had a full life, celebrating every holiday out there. Eating tons of cake for her birthday and getting lots of gifts. I can't even imagine how oppressive it has to have been for her.

I know someone who would get rid of JW by telling them she was a practicing satanist and if they would like to know more about her church. I just remembered when I first moved to the area I live in now, two elderly women came to my door. They were sweet and asked me if I had heard of the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse. Stupid me, not knowing who they were, said of course! They talked a bit and asked if they could come back.... I started to feel weird about it all and just said maybe. They came back a time later and I didn't answer the door... Maybe that's why I would just rather not talk to them. I get to easily into the conversation because I feel bad.

As soon as the weather turns nice in Spring they are out in full force dressed to the nines. You cannot really miss them. On the occasions I have answered the doorbell, I smile politely and tell them I am quite happy with my Roman Catholicism, take the Watchtower, and wish them a good day. Then the pamphlet goes into the trash.

Really, the quickest way to get JW’s off your porch is to tell them you’ve been disfellowshipped. Gone. Like their tails are on fire

One time when my co-worker and I were cleaning a house, it was super hot so we had the front door open to let air in. My coworker was visible through the screen in the screen door. She was vacuuming when they started knocking. She ignored them for awhile but they kept knocking so she just said, "We're not the homeowners", and went back to vacuuming. They couldn't see me which was good because I couldn't help but start laughing when she did that.

I had a couple JW ladies stopping by regularly after I made the mistake of answering the door one time and talking briefly with them. For awhile I quit answering the door but they still stopped by, leaving their watchtower on the porch. I finally answered the door one time and told them that they seemed like kind, genuine people, but I believed they'd been deceived (which I do believe.) They haven't come back since.

When I was in high school, myself and a few others were spending time after school at a friend's house when a couple of JWs came to the door. My overly gregarious friend let them in and sat to talk with them. It was a very hot day and my friend wore a lot of make-up. Her heavily mascaraed lashes started sticking together and I assume they thought she was winking at them because they couldn't get out of there fast enough.

Two JW stories from several years ago.
Mr. AZC was out working on our front lawn, cutting the grass, raking, etc. Two JWs came up and started to talk to him. He was (and still is) totally disinterested in them, but too polite to be rude to them. I rescued him. I went to the front door and yelled, "Hey, I'm not paying you to stand there and flap your gums. Get back to work." They left.
Another time, I was having a very stressful and overbooked Saturday, and was running late. I had had an unpleasant run-in at the post office with a total stranger (not my fault), and was beyond dealing with anything else. So I pull up in my driveway and get out of my car. Two JWs came walking briskly across my lawn with big smiles on their faces. I turned around, stopped, looked at them and said, "I'm already having a bad day. The last thing I need is you on my lawn. Go away. Now."
They never came back to talk to me or my "gardener" again. I am really a kind and polite person, but I don't feel obligated to be kind or polite to people who are invading my space without being invited to do so.
And now we live in a gated community, so . . . no solicitors.

My father, who is a chatty guy, once talked two young Mormon missionaries all the way down his driveway. Those poor kids never knew what hit them. He just kept talking and talking and they kept walking backwards and nodding until they finally hit the sidewalk. Then he strolled back into the house chuckling and I looked at him and said, "That was mean." They never came back. I'm sure he's on a "Do Not Knock" list somewhere. I love that Leah has turned her attentions to Scientology's tax exempt status. I hope she nails them!

My hubby grew up Mormon and I heard some crazy stories. When he was old enough he got the hell out of there and refused to do his "two year mission" that is required. I hope Leah looks into that eventually. I remember meeting my hubby's mom the first time and she showed me her magic underpants that she wears. Google it, it's a real thing. I was speechless.

I think Leah, being high profile, is reasonably safe, but who really knows? A special 1-hour episode is airing Sunday night at 8 PM that is called (I think), The Aftermath of the Aftermath. From the trailer I saw it appears they will be talking about the fall-out of the show regarding their personal lives. Maybe your question will be answered, momrek06.

I've heard/read about the special undergarments Mormons wear before, but checked your link to refresh my memory. "Biblical scripture contains many references to the wearing of special garments. In the Old Testament the Israelites are specifically instructed to turn their garments into personal reminders of their covenants with God (see Numbers 15:37-41). Indeed, for some, religious clothing has always been an important part of integrating worship with daily living. Such practices resonate with Latter-day Saints today." Honestly, I don't find anything that odd about this practice. They are not saying these garments give them any mystical or magical powers.
