As the article states, Vicki was on last year with Leah and she is and has been very emotional still about being a member of the "cult" and dragging her kids into it. I remember Vicki sitting down with Leah and Mike and a few others at a round table discussion. THANKS photobabe for the article.

Something I have never understood. How did Leah manage to get her family out at the same time? In interviews, I have heard her say that, while in, she and her husband used to write KWs on each other a LOT. So, I wonder how the family exit was orchestrated.

Something I have never understood. How did Leah manage to get her family out at the same time? In interviews, I have heard her say that, while in, she and her husband used to write KWs on each other a LOT. So, I wonder how the family exit was orchestrated. Found this photobabe, here is a 3 year old article on the DAILY MAIL. An interview with Leah. www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-3302038/Leah-Remini-feared-lose-mother-husband-left-Scientology.htmlRemini revealed that she feared she would lose her family after renouncing Scientology.
The 45-year-old says she worried that her husband Angelo Pagan and her mother Vicki Marshall would not speak to her after she left the religious group, in a new interview with People.
But the actress was proven wrong as both Pagan and Marshall followed her out of the Church in 2013.
'They simply put family ahead of the Church, which is oftentimes not the case with Scientology families,' the King Of Queens star said.

momrek06, thanks for posting that. It's one I missed. I worded my question poorly. I know that Leah left and they followed. But, how did she tell them? Separately? Together? And what were their original reactions? By that time Vicki had been in what...30-40 years? It's hard to believe that Leah said "guess what. I'm quitting Scientology" and Vicky and Angelo just said OK, we'll go too. I guess that is possible, but it doesn't make a lot of sense to me given how indoctrinated they were. Can't wait for tonights show!

IIRC, Leah said her husband joined because she was so involved. He didn't grow up in it. I think he joined because he loved her, not because he believed it as much.
As far as her mom goes, I thought she said her mom had gotten so high up and was starting to have some have some questions because it wasn't making sense. I think she was at level eight, and that was where answers were supposed to be forthcoming, but there weren't satisfactory answers. So when it came to a choice between her daughter or the cult's beliefs that no longer made sense, she chose her daughter. If it had been earlier before her mom made it to the higher levels it might have been a different story.

Anyone else watching this? It's made me cry a few times. So sad. Leahs sisters are so pretty and seem to be very nice young women. Vicki seems to be struggling a lot. Christy is devastated by the loss of her family and the story of Mike's attempted visit with his mom was heartbreaking.

I saw part of the JW special and just bawled. The two brothers that killed themselves.....I had to stop watching. I used to teach and there were JW kids in the classes over the years. They either didn't come to school on the days of holiday parties or the parents would ask that they be sent to the library. Once I had a really nice little boy in my class and he usually went to the library on party days, but on the last day before Christmas break the librarian was sick and the library was closed. I hid all the red and green cookies and told the 1st grade class that it was a snowflake party just so he could stay. From what they revealed I probably got him in trouble .

Tonight!! The Aftermath season 3 officially begins at 9 PM. I read Tony Ortegas blog today where he gives a bit of a preview and it sounds like a real jaw dropper. The featured guest was the personal steward of Dave and Shelly so she knows a LOT. Apparently, she had a hair-raising escape from Gold because they refused to let her route out (*she knows too much).

After reading this thread, and having read Leah's book earlier this year, I've decided to watch this program. How and why anyone would allow themselves to be brainwashed by this cult is beyond me-I mean adults who enter it, the kids didn't have choices when brought into and indoctrinated at early ages. This is insanity.

MANY people who become Scientologists never end up in the SeaOrg, so they don't have as much contact with the super crazy aspects of the organization. Of course, the "religion" itself is inherently crazy, but the things we're seeing on this show and others is stuff the garden variety Scientologist has NO clue about. For many, the techniques Scientology uses to help people be successful and deal with issues can be effective. Was it last season when that couple came on who, although they'd left Scientology, were still using those techniques to help people? I've always been very strong minded (read: stubborn ) and skeptical, so I would never be taken in by any sort of cultish situation, but I can see why these groups appeal to certain personalities. I hope to hell Leah is successful in getting their tax exempt status taken away.

OMG what an episode. I found it so emotional. Gawd the HELL Robert Almblad and Mike Rinder have endured with the constant stalking and harassment. Unbelievable.
I am praying so hard someone with some really deep pockets watches tonight's episode and will FUND Robert Almblad's "bacteria free ice machines".
I have family all over Tampa and we have driven by the Clearwater CULT and seen members walking around looking like zombies always in a LINE and always wearing some kind of dress uniform acting as though they would have the crap beat out of them if they were to look in any direction but ahead of them.
WHAT A HORRID LIFE.

Since the beginning of season one I have been hooked on this series. Not just the series. I have read lots of books, seen lots of video, both by ex-members and cult experts. The experts say No One is fully immune to getting drawn into a cult. With Scientology, new members are recruited by finding their hot button. Trouble with your job? Love life problems? Want to do something meaningful to make the world a much better place? We have the answers. The first courses are relatively inexpensive and sometimes somewhat helpful. The people you meet are friendly, clean-cut attractive and very welcoming. And, slowly they draw you in. Fortunately, with the avalanche of bad PR they have been getting since Leah started this series it's getting more and more difficult for them to recruit new bodies into the shop. One thing that struck me through all the episodes is how, intelligent and capable most of these "ex's" are. Most have an elementary school education or less, yet, when given opportunities in the real world, do very, very well. If I owned a business and wanted a smart, dedicated, very hardworking employee, I'd look for an ex-sea-org member.

And these celebs who endorse this cult!!!

I was surprised last night. I didn't realize that Scientology and Nation of Islam had a connection. It's bizarre to me that the connection would even happen in the first place given the creed of the Nation of Islam and then try to marry that with Scientology. It was eye opening to me.

I had no idea either. I wonder just how its members will react to Xenu and the fact that scientology doesn't believe in a God. Are they going to all of a sudden renounce Allah? I highly doubt it. I think scientology tactics are being used for control.

If you are interested in learning more, there are lots of video on YouTube about the subject. Leah and Mike are in many of them. There is also a Facebook group called Supporters of "Leah Remini Scientology and the Aftermath." It's a pretty good group and you can find lots of good information there.

I didn't have any idea about the connection between Scientology and the Nation of Islam either. That's a head-scratcher, to say the least. The fact that Scientology denies Jesus and Allah seems like a non-starter for Christians and Muslims Did anyone else notice the "In Memory of" at the end of the episode? The lady who appeared on the episode - Tiponi Grey, the lady in the episode who was a former member of Scientology and who had worked for them as well - passed away recently at only 50 years old www.distractify.com/entertainment/2018/12/12/oGqU2Ps/what-happened-to-tiponi-grey

Good show last night. I do think Shelly is alive but is being held against her will or as they said sticking it out for the return of LRH. All Scientology would have to do is have her appear on camera and say she is okay. They haven't and that makes it suspect.
Did anyone get the feeling that maybe LRH did something sexual do those kids on the ship? IT just seemed creepy to me and that is the first thing I thought of.

But, I have read books and read and listened to interviews with some of those folks and all agree that, in spite of his many flaws, LRH he did not take sexual advantage of them. As to Shelly. There might be some reasons that she has not appeared in some taped interview. 1. Miscavage has dug in his heels and is saying "I don't have to explain anything to anyone. Ever.", or, 2. she may be very rundown and unhealthy looking, to the point where stage makeup can't cover up how bad she looks. Or, 3, Shelly has flatly refused to give an interview or appear on camera. Of course, the last reason is she has died. I do think she's still alive, but I could easily be wrong about that.

In regard to Shelly, I have always wondered why the police were never called in, as she IS a "missing person." And if the police have been called in, whether this is public record.

Imperfect1, The police were called in. They told Leah that they had checked and Shelly was fine. If I remember correctly, Leah asked if they had actually talked with Shelly alone (no Sci. present) and they ducked the question. She also asked if they had given Shelly the note from Leah that she had asked them to give to her and again they refused to answer. The police would only say that the case was closed.

This sounds disturbingly familiar --- it's very much like many of the most restricted polygamist fundamentalist Mormon communities which have their police departments under their control. Buying up land/buildings for the ORGs -- mass real estate investments that the "church" can write off for years. Market the concept to members as survival malls for when the time of salvation begins. WOW.

I'm not that surprised that the nation of islam and scientology have some connections, as they are both known for some crazy ways of thinking. Farrakhan and the nation of islam is viewed as a hate group by some, and they also believe white people were created by a big headed mad scientist named yakub. lol It's the type of stuff I expect to see in a sy fy movie or something.
