FannyMare, while you can separate the Roseanne from real life with the Roseanne from the show, I have a hard time doing so. I simply feel uncomfortable promoting her current work because when ratings come into play, watching is essentially promoting. She can be very funny, and very likable, but she can also be outlandish. It's the same with Seinfeld. I used to watch that program, not regularly but occasionally. When Michael Richards/Kramer went off on stage with a distasteful racial rant, I never watched another rerun. I just could not promote his work. I guess I am using the only voice I have in situations like these? I can see why others might not get the connection, but I happen to. SaveSave
I don't get too worked up. I know what's right, and what's wrong..

FannyMare, (Just to clarify) I don’t do twitter this was headline News on USA/Today (newspaper) that I read every morning with my tea. RB is despicable. “Say it forget it WRITE it regret it”! Did RB think at all as she is typing out her racist message that this would be received with the world laughing at it .... I mean RB is brushing it off as a JOKE. Oh and BRAVO to Wanda! I love her! WS is hysterical! AND smart!

That's definitely a messed up tweet by Roseanne. It also makes the recent episode where Roseanne stood up for her new neighbors at the grocery store look rather ironic.

Oh WOW....,I just read the show has been cancelled!!! BRAVO to ABC!!!! Wow! It makes me wonder if she didn't even want to do the show. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but racist and insulting remarks such as these are not to be tolerated. If things like this become "okay" where are we going to stop? How are we supposed to teach our kids not to bully, when talk like this is the norm. Glad its gone and good riddance.

Well, her "dumb things" (stupid racist tweets) have gotten the show cancelled and cost a lot of people their jobs. Why on earth would she make such obnoxious horrifying statements? Maybe she is not right in the head. It doesn't even jibe with the fact that she had her TV son marry a black woman and have a biracial child. money.cnn.com/2018/05/29/media/roseanne-twitter-chelsea-clinton/index.html

ABC was looking for the first chance to cancel this, Roseanne complied. Like I said, maybe someone else will pick it up..meanwhile The View will carry on picking on everyone!

No - the show has a liberal leaning with one conservative voice. It gets contentious.

NO ONE will touch this show now. Yes, people say dumb things all the time, but if they're the star of a TV show and they repeatedly make abhorrent racist comments online, there will and should be consequences.
I only feel sorry for the people involved with the show who are now out of a job. That's what her behavior did. I'd guess that at least some of the actors are happy. In watching any interviews to support the reboot, several of them, John Goodman and Sarah Gilbert included, looked uncomfortable with Roseanne when she spoke out about her politics. I can imagine that set was sometimes not such a happy place to be.

No - the show has a liberal leaning with one conservative voice. It gets contentious. Right. But no one is slinging racist terms. I'm sure if they were it would be cancelled as well. Getting heated and having disagreements is completely different than calling someone an ape. Thanks Ariel

She seems to be like Trump in her personal life on social media in that she can't help herself. She also retweeted a debunked conspiracy theory about the Soros family and shouted out to Chelsea Clinton as being Chelsea Soros Clinton. (Chelsea had a good come back on that one.)

Look can I just jump in here and mention first of all I am not a MOD ... so MODS delete if you want to.
As the person that first posted the comment about RB's racist remarks I just want to say that while I do love you all, we can all agree to disagree.
Please do not turn this into any thing political AND please this is the ROSEANNE thread ... do not discuss OTHER TV SHOWS here.
Take those discussions about OTHER TV SHOWS to their appropriate thread. THANKS.

Comparing an African American woman to an ape goes beyond contentious. I feel bad for the people who worked on the show and are now out of a job, but I can't imagine working with someone who spoke like that. As for her freedom of speech, yes she has it, but that doesn't make her free from consequences. If I spoke like that on social media and my work place caught wind of it, I'd be out of here.

A few posts not about the show directly will not disrupt the thread. People are reacting to the reason why this show was cancelled and the person who caused the cancellation. After these first posts, the uproar will calm down and those who want to discuss what was good and bad about the show as we viewed it can continue.
If posters wish to continue The View discussion, use that thread. Thanks.

Can't say I'm glad it's gone because I started enjoying it after the first episode and was looking forward to more ... but I didn't love it so much that I'll miss it terribly. I like John Goodman and Laurie Metcalf a lot, and also Sarah Gilbert to some extent. As far as Roseanne herself, I've always found her obnoxious as a guest on talk shows. She seems to have developed an obnoxious sense of self-importance and self-entitlement that led to her actually believing she could make despicable racist remarks with no consequences. She needs to stay on her macadamia farm with the other nuts. If anyone on The View or any other ABC (and hopefully other network) shows tweeted, posted, or otherwise broadcast to the world such vile racism, they'd be gone, too.

What I liked about the show was how they showed them coping with aging (joint pain, pills, diabetes, etc.) That's where I am and I relate - especially to the cost of medications. I'll miss that as I really don't relate to most shows. If only...

Absolutely totally agree. Writers, producers, directors will run from it. ESP in this climate in this day an age. Look at all the outstanding actors THIS show had ... what a SHAME all because of RB. SG, LM, JG, EP...... Sad.
