We watched episode one of squid games.. While I liked the first two episodes, I didn't get totally hooked until the third one. For me, the show took off at that point where I just had to know what was going on. The first episode was the set up. I wasn't that much into the main character, he didn't seem very nice. The second was getting to know the characters a bit better, but I found I missed the game itself.

I think the opening scene where he’s playing the squid game as a child shows how winning was really overpowering for him. You see it again when he wins at the horse races, and even the claw game.

He had an obsession to be the one who wins, to come out on top..... that changed. I liked seeing that growth in the character. The old man reminded me of my dad, who passed from brain cancer. Just the way he stood, hunched over, his expressions, the confusion...... {Spoiler} Of course, not once there was the reveal!

It's better to watch subtitles than dubbing. Subtitles are more accurate while dubbing is like whatever; I've seen both the dubbed and subtitled versions of Cowboy Bebop's "Knocking on Heaven's Door" and it's like watching two different movies.

I got dragged kicking and screaming into watching Squid Games. It was HORRIBLE! The acting atrocious! The storyline, such as there was one, confusing. Total waste of my time. Not that my time is worth much, so I'll get over it.

Yeah, really. And this is not to disparage anyone else who loved it. What many of you "got", apparently I didn't. It's the most watched International Netflix series. So, obviously it's me who is missing something. But who can disagree that the protagonist, '456', is the worst actor in the history of acting? Really!

Maybe you are missing something. Did you watch is with the subtitles or dubbed? With most shows that makes a difference and with this one the difference was HUGE, IMO. As soon as I switched over to subtitles, it made an instant difference in how I felt about the show. Lee Jung-jae is a major star in South Korea and I definitely understand why. I completely disagree with your opinion of his acting ability. I thought he was terrific. It's not a show I expected would make me cry, but he did and so did the Ji-yeong and Sae-byeok scenes in episode 6.
Maybe it's not your cup of tea - I know a few people who couldn't handle the violence. I thought it was compelling, well-plotted and well-acted AND it surprised me when most shows and movies don't.

I also had trouble getting into the first episode; but I'm staying away from grisly for now, even in Halloween time. I may get to it eventually.

Did you make it through the whole series? It didn't really grab me until episodes 2/3. And "456" had me in tears after episode 6, I didn't like his character a whole lot in the beginning but he really grew on me as it went on. As everyone's said, the atrocious dubbing really does ruin the "feel" of it - watching it in Korean with English subtitles is SO much better. Even so, I can see where it might not be everyone's cup of tea. Not sure what they have planned as far as another season, but I kind of hope they leave it where it is. Why didn't he just {Spoiler} get on that damn plane??!

If he would have stayed that way, I wouldn't have enjoyed it as I did. {episode 6} I really felt, as despicable as the old man turned out to be, he was responsible for "456"'s growth as a character and a human being. He learned compassion for others because of the old man. Even now, the episode makes me tear up.
Also, he didn't get on the plane because he now has compassion and cares for others and just can't walk away and go back to the way he was. He is forever changed.

Maid has been extremely hard to watch. It's a literal vision of what poverty can look like for some single women.

Haven't watched Maid yet, but I HIGHLY recommend the book. I read a galley ahead of the release and got to hear Stephanie Land speak at a booksellers event. She was so sweet and shy and normal. At the time, not a lot of people had read the book and the publishing rep was eager to get a blurb from me as they tried to get the word out about this little book from an unknown author. Then President Obama put it on his summer reading list and thy definitely didn't need to hear from me! I was totally charmed by Stephanie and maybe one of the things that made the book less fraught to read is that I know that she got a book deal and is doing okay. I think that'll make it easier to watch the series too. Still, there are thousands of Stephanies out there struggling in the same system as she did. The book was - and I'm sure the series is too - a real illustration of how the system of aid programs that are in place in this country can help people, but they can also prevent people from getting out of poverty.

It's fantastic. Andie MacDowell is phenomenal! It can be hard to watch in certain moments. It's definitely triggered me a couple times. I didn't know until mid-way through that the lead female is Andie's daughter! She is great!!

I'll have to get the book. I watched season 2 of Love on the Spectrum. I just loved Ronan and Katie. Jayden was born in the wrong era! The man should be in a Jane Austen novel! I find it interesting how several of the people on here are willing to date both men and women. I think maybe lack of dating experience leaves one wondering just who they are attracted to or at least willing to try either one.

Everytime I load up my fire stick I see an ad for Maid. Given what I do every day for work I don't think I can watch it. I made a comment to my boss just the other day about how I can no longer leave work at work since we are fully remote now in our positions. I deal with so many people living at or below the FPL , many of whom are seniors and like this.. single moms. It has become harder and harder for me to disconnect from it because home is now home AND work. As heartbreaking as it can be, I am glad to hear someone like Stephanie did make it out of her situation and is able to bring to light what so many single moms DO face and do have to contend with just to keep the lights on or a roof over their kids head. I just think watching this would be emotional overload for me

I started watching House of Secrets: the Burari Deaths about a family of 11 in Dehli who were all found hanging in their home. It is really interesting trying to figure out why or who did this.

We finished MAID,it's very well told, for awhile I was single with two children and three jobs..I felt the leads pain.Andie MacDowell was okay, she seemed to overact as someone with bipolar , but her daughter is very good. I knew as soon as I saw the scenery, it was filmed in Canada, beautiful BC, on the island...

I watched it on Friday - the title is German Week - featuring German desserts.
I noticed they filled up all the weekly time slots with an image. When the new episode arrives, it opens the next one on the string. I go to episodes, then the last season and slide over to episodes.
