Last night I watched Stealing Home, it was a favorite of mine in high school and I had not seen it in years! My conclusion as an adult is that it was a great story but not the strongest dialogue wise.

I watched Lovebirds last night. I really enjoyed it! It’s certainly not an original concept - lots in common with Date Night, and it even used some of the same jokes that were used in Stuber. But both actors are so likable that it made it entertaining for an hour and a half!

Glass - enjoyed the movie, didn't like the ending so much. McAvoy was fantastic as usual.
Ready or Not - comedy horror featuring the worst in-laws ever. Fun movie.

Last night since we had some "refreshments" we decided to order "Cats" on PPV and it was absolutely hysterical. Some of the cats were wearing coats on top of their fur and we were like "Why are they wearing coats on top of their fur coats?" The rest of the evening went something like this:
*10 minutes in* Partner: who is that? he looks familiar. Me: That's Idris Alba. He was on Luther and Pacific Rim.
*A hour later* Partner: Hey, isn't that the guy from Luther?
Jason DeRulo cat did a nice number towards the beginning of the movie. They made the Jennifer Hudson cat look raggedy as hell and a cross between Tara's mama on True Blood during Season 1 and a homeless person, while my partner said she looked like the actress imitating Whitney Houston on Mad TV. Most of the cats were roaming around with bare, white feet that looked creepy as hell, and then in other scenes the same cats were wearing shoes? Rebel Wilson's character was a mess; of course they would have the plump cat rolling out of windows and onto floors, have a team of mice singing in her closet, and eating dancing roaches with faces (when she wasn't throwing them into a box?). The plot was that every year this group of cats have a contest to see which of their number would be reborn into a new life (at this point I started wondering "What if it's like that 'renew' scam in Logan's Run and they murder one cat a year?"). The Idris cat wanted to be the chosen one but he was also like a Satan Cat that made the other cats who were in the contest disappear? Taylor Swift appears briefly as some sort of Shady Cat wearing high-heels and sprinkling catnip on the other cats, while the Ian McKellan cat was the scariest, yet funniest thing I've seen in a while.
Overall I enjoyed this hot mess and encourage all to watch it; preferably with some wine, vodka, or other mind-altering substance.

Saw "Boundaries" last night with Vera Farmiga and the always wonderful Christopher Plummer, as charming as ever. It was a 2018 film and Peter Fonda had a tiny role in it and died the following year. I don't ever remember hearing about it when it was first released but it's a quirky film and just wonderful. So many times I laughed at Plummer's droll sense of humor.
"Single mom Laura and her son Henry are forced to drive her estranged pot-dealing and carefree father, Jack, across the country after he is kicked out of yet another nursing home."

Watched Eye's Bayou for the first time in a long time and it still holds up. What a quietly haunting, beautiful film about the fallacies of memory. I still believe that Debbi Morgan should have at least been nominated for Best Supporting Actress the year this was released because even after all these years her performance is incredible.

On Amazon Prime, Just Mercy a movie about an innocent man on Death Row (Jamie Foxx) and the story of his exoneration. Really good movie. My grandson recommended it to me and warned it was a "cryer". Tickles me so to know he knows when I'll cry at a movie because he will too!

Tickles me so to know he knows when I'll cry at a movie because he will too! That’s such a great movie! And free on streaming services for the month of June thanks to the studio recognizing it’s a story people need to see right now! Last night I watched Nanette on Netflix. WOW! Hannah Gadsby knows how to use her voice!

It's a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood with Tom Hanks portraying Fred Rogers and Matthew Rhys as the journalist who interviewed him for an Esquire magazine article about heroes. I'm not ashamed to admit I cried several times and it left me emotionally wiped out. It was a wonderful movies. We sure could use Mr. Rogers and his wisdom right now. RIP Mr. Rogers

Joker.
An unflinching story of a mentally ill person navigating a world that doesn't care. I was surprised to find myself emotionally wrapped up in the narrative, usually comic book movies don't leave a lasting impact on me,this was most definitely an exception. Excellent cinematography, and Joaquin Phoenix's oscar-winning performance was simply amazing.. Arthur will stay with me for some time.

1917 - fantastic movie, very well done. Ad Astra - more of a slow psychological drama than an action movie, but it was visually stunning. I'm not a Brad Pitt fan but he was pretty okay in this.

Watched Rocketman on Amazon Prime.
It wasn't what I expected. I knew very little about it beforehand. Just that it was Elton John's story & had a lot of his music in it. It was & it did. Then it kind of went off the rails. First off, I couldn't understand much of what they were saying. I guess it was partially the accents, also the verbal parts were way quieter than the music. This was a problem all through the movie. I was able to get the gist of it all, but it was still irritating not to understand them. Next, many music production numbers really came out of nowhere & seemed to interrupt & confuse the storyline.
This sounds like I didn't like it, but I did, just not as much as I could have. I loved the music and the acting was very good. I liked the end too.

Hustlers - it was okay for a movie about strippers drugging rich a-holes and stealing their money. JLo looked ridiculously fantastic, I need to get on her workout program.

Really NOT saying anything about JLo, but all I could think of was Kathy Griffin's response to Anna Nicole Smith's huge weight loss all those years ago - (and I'm paraphrasing), "Diet and exercise....and cocaine."

Knives Out. New to Amazon Prime. I had been wanting to watch this for some time and it did not disappoint. I am thankful, though, for sub-titles...hee..Recommend if only for the background music and the set (house) decoration. Thoroughly enjoyed all of it.

I finally found "I Shot Andy Warhol" and watched it again. Lili Taylor gives a bang on performance as Valerie Solanis but the shining star is Stephen Dorff as Candy Darling; he's unrecognizable. A very tragic tale of how past events molded and shaped a talented young woman's descent into madness and pulling others down with her.

Knives Out on Amazon Prime. I liked it! Complicated murder mystery. But Daniel Craig's phony Southern accent was horrible! It was weird that I was drawn to it, first by a recommendation here this morning, then the name of the main female character's name was a clue in today's New Yorker Crossword Puzzle (had to look it up online), and then ran into an article saying she was dating Ben Affleck. Felt like fate was pointing me in the direction of this movie! Lolz!

Yeah, about that accent. At first I thought it was British then it morphed more southern in a New England setting. He was one weird dude. I remember a British actor saying that the southern accent was the easiest American accent to adopt.

Arctic - Mads Mikkelsen in a brutal survival film. There was very little dialogue and only three actors, but I thought it was very well done.
The Good Liar - you can't go wrong with Helen Mirren and Ian McKellen! This one went in a different direction than I thought it would, but it was still a satisfying ending.
The Prodigy - Taylor Schilling plays a really dumb mom to an evil kid. Not really scary, but I rolled my eyes a LOT at the dumb things some of the characters did.

Count me as another who watched and loved Knives Out. Great cast and fun to see Frank Oz in front of the cameras and not voicing a puppet!
I also watched a few dance/theater movies. First was Anatomy of a Male Ballet Dancer, a terrible title for a terrific profile of Marcelo Gomes, one of the great ballet dancers of his generation.
I watched Every Little Step, a documentary about the revival of A Chorus Line from 2006. So many terrific performers, including future winner of The Voice, Alisan Porter, but not including creepy egomaniac and SYTYCD choreographer Tyce Diorio. I've seen it at least 6 times, I just love it.
