DOWNHILL (on HBO) with Will Ferrell and Julia Louis Dreyfus.
In a word......HORRIBLE. Earlier in the week I watch GLEE 3D the Movie (2011) (HBO) ........I love this movie (as I have seen it before) but it was so sad watching this movie knowing both Corey and Naya are gone. Friday I watched DIRTY DANCING (HBO).....love love love but once again another two leads gone, Jerry O and Patrick S. In my humble opinion anything with Will Farrell is a waste of good film. Never have understood the popularity. Glad to know I'm not the only one who doesn't get Will Farrell's appeal. I knew beforehand that Downhill was NOT a comedy. I love Julia Louis Dreyfus so I gave it a watch. Hubby declared it dreadful but I would not go that far. I thought it was a very thought provoking premise...what WOULD you do and HOW WOULD you feel if your significant other acted in such a way? I felt Julia's pain and disappointment in her spouse. I guess I did enjoy it somewhat.

I find him dreadful in pretty much everything he does, if he's in it, I usually steer clear .

I have to admit I enjoyed him very much in Zoolander.

I think that will Ferrel is really good at doing one thing. There are some movies where a character like that fits, and he's good - Old School comes to mind. There are other times that they try to shoe horn the kind of character he does into a movie to have him in it, and those projects stink!

I would also add Seth Rogen to that list of ones that I don't see the appeal. I don't find him funny and it always looks like he needs to take a bath.

I watched the remake of Hellboy. I can see why it was nominated for one of the worst movies of the year.

I watched the remake of Hellboy. I can see why it was nominated for one of the worst movies of the year. That was such a bummer. I love the original Ron Perlman movies, but I also love David Harbour, so the fact that the new movie was just SO BAD was really disappointing.
I watched The Gentlemen, the latest from Guy Ritchie and sort of in line with his previous films. Excellent cast - Matthew McConaughey, Charlie, Hunnam, Michelle Dockery, Henry Golding, Colin Farrell and Hugh Grant with a cockney accent that totally threw me. I actually had to Google to see if his voice had been dubbed (it wasn't). Lots of blood and guts and twists and turns

I watched The Glorias last night. I wanted to like it more than I did. I thought some of the artsy things done to tell her story were distracting and didn’t think the actresses portraying her didn’t make her very charismatic. They almost made you wonder why people followed her.

The Secret (cheesy)
Black Water Abyss (hated it)

I watched "Joy" and I will tell you, it was far from a joy. All-star cast though, just way too long and drawn out.

Yesterday for my afternoon break I watched HANNAH AND HER SISTERS!!! I had forgotten what a great movie this is and huge cast!!! Obviously WA....... jerk. But the movie was still one I have not see seriously since I saw it in the movie theater in 1986. I love that Mia Farrow's real life Mom plays her Mom in the movie, also.

The Blob, original version. Been years since I watched it. Not bad, had the potential to be better.
Itsy Bitsy, a bit of a simplistic horror movie, but surprisingly decent, and will likely spook any arachnophobic person.

Downhill - what a depressing, dreary movie this was. The only thing I enjoyed was the beautiful scenery.

Mudbound, because I recently finished the book. It was well done and stuck to the book quite a bit.

There's been a lot of talk in the gossip columns about Lily James . . . but I've always enjoyed her work, from "Downton Abbey" through "Mamma Mia 2" to "Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society."
Added to that, "Rebecca" by Daphne du Maurier has been one of my favorite books for almost 60 years. And I'm pretty sure I've seen every movie and TV version of the book.
So the thought of Lily playing "the second Mrs. de Winter" had me giddy with anticipation. However, I'd forgotten the actual release date and it was like a HUGE surprise to see it on my Netflix options last night. We prepped some rum and Coke and sat down to watch it. I even called it a "surprise present" to end the day.
There are only three words needed to actually review the movie. It. Was. Dreadful.
The casting was horrible. The acting was worse. The costumes were NOT anything like the garments described in the movie. Mrs. Danvers (in the book) did not wear tailored suits or bright red lipstick. She was supposed to be dressed like Mrs. Hughes in Downton Abbey, but without the kindness of Mrs. Hughes reflected in her face. The only thing "spot on" was the setting of Manderley and its grounds.
Parts of it were not only nothing like the book, we ended up laughing out loud at the absurdity of some of the scenes.
I wasted two hours of my life on this abomination. And I give you an honest review so that you won't have to do the same.

How. Was it an updated version of Rebecca, or was it supposed to be in that same time period?

My only reason to watch is to see if they went with the book or movie in regards to Mrs. de Winter's death.

My response will be weird to many ..... I heard how DREADFULLY awful "DOWNHILL" is/was and it IS one of 2020's worst movies BUT for some odd reason I watched it. I was drawn to the 'don't watch this its horrible' reviews that I had to go watch it. That being said I may check "REBECCA" out, maybe not the entire movie but I will definitely watch some of it. I am actually surprised IMDb gave REBECCA a 6.0 as you read the reviews on their page they are awful. www.imdb.com/title/tt2235695/

I have a friend who is a published writer (several romance-type books), and I use her as my go-to "what did you think of _______" person when it comes to books or movies made from books. We are traditionally in 100% agreement.
She watched Rebecca. Many of her comments could have been written by me. Other than describing it as "dreadful" on my Facebook page, I didn't offer a lot of details. But her IM to me pointed out quite a few of the same things that made me want to have selective amnesia that I'd ever wasted time watching the movie.

I watched The Opening Act over the weekend and really enjoyed it. It's the semi-autobiographical story of Steve Byrne's start in comedy - gives some really good insight into the comedy club scene and what it takes to make it. Enjoyable characters and over all a great film!
I also watched Borat. It was very typical of Sasha Baron Cohen. I liked it - it made me laugh!

Holidate on Netflix was exactly what I expected. Holiday cheese with better actors than Hallmark and Lifetime. I did like the male lead, but Emma Roberts still comes off like a little girl. It didn't seem like a good fit, casting-wise, to me.

I watched 'Warm Bodies" which is a romantic comedy a zombie falling for a human. I loved it! Very funny and charming, and not too gory (I only had to look away twice). John Malkovich was in it as was Rob Corddry, who is in everything I watch right now. It had a John Hughes vibe and perfect for a pandemic Halloween where you don't want to be too scared since it's scary enough out there.

I watched The Soul of America on HBO last night. I loved the book and was curious to see how they’d capture it in a documentary. They did it very well!
