Return of the Secaucus 7 - John Sayles first movie. Still a delight 40 years later.

Wolfwalkers: An absolutely delightful tale on Apple+ about a young girl discovering a young Wolfwalker (people who turn into wolves and "walk" about while they are sleeping) at a time where land was being settled in Europe and the townspeople who want to remove the wolves by any means necessary. It's beautifully hand-drawn and animated in a way you generally don't see anymore. I enjoyed it.

Mortal (Norway’s version of Thor)...husband and I enjoyed it! Thanks for the recommend. I just watched it and also enjoyed it, but the ending was so cut off...surely there was more.

If you liked this Thor story, you might like another of his origin stories, Ragnarok, on Netflix. It also gives more of the lore behind Ragnarok and it's in Norwegian, so sub-titled.

Dare I say I'm eagerly awaiting the Mortal kombat movie?

Watched a short feature documentary on Netflix: "Long Shot"
I know that cameras everywhere can feel intrusive, but this is a case where they actually proved a man's innocence. The story includes interviews with Larry David. Quite interesting.

THE DESCENDANTS (2011) A movie I have started and never finished. Yesterday, taking a much needed break from school work I watched it all. What a great movie, great acting. www.imdb.com/title/tt1033575/

Words on Bathroom Walls I could not remember why I had set this aside at the library. It's a look into a teens life, who has schizophrenia, and his treatment. It's both funny, and sad. I cannot imagine what life must be like,to be diagnosed with this, but this little movie does a pretty good job, of trying to show us. Absolutely recommend it.

Coming to America 2: While it didn't have the charm of the original, it was fun. A sour note was everyone referring to Akeem's new son as "Your bastard son" over and over again; it wasn't funny the first time they said it and they kept repeating it. Wesley Snipes stole every scene he was in, there's some great cameos, and the barbershop men are back! Ruth Wilson's costume design is also a highlight. Overall, not a bad way to spend a few hours.

I'm watching it now and I find it's a little hollow of the charm the first one had. But yes, the costumes are sooooo great! There are several things that rub me the wrong way about it, the above being one.

Wesley Snipes knows how to walk the fine line of being a villain that is both menacing and funny; his whole family was a mess and I enjoyed every moment they were onscreen. I'm glad that Akeem freed his sister from the jumping on one foot and barking curse at the end! Ruth Wilson also was the costume designer for Black Panther and a lot of other films. Abstract: The Art of Design did an entire episode on her and her work, if you're interested beerbelly I strongly suggest watching it.

I can recommend In the Loop. A British comedy satire based on the British TV series "The Thick of It", which was a model for the American TV series VEEP. If you enjoyed VEEP you'll probably really like In the Loop. Many parallels, including one actress who plays a similar role in each, and other characters who were similar in many ways. In the Loop is based on shenanigans and incompetencies at the state department level in both the UK and the US. Fast paced and strong language.

Judas and the Black Messiah: Beautifully made and heartbreaking in a lot of ways, especially considering how young everyone was at the time. Fantastic film. Still processing it, but one thing I have to say is give Daniel Kaluuya every award ever for his depiction of Fred Hampton because he was absolutely amazing. I have happily followed his career since his episode on one of the earliest episodes of Black Mirror and he truly deserves all the roses he's getting now.

With tons and tons of CDC rules which I am all for. I am anxious to get back to the movies. I just saw Robin W on CBS SUNDAY MORN with Jane Pauley, I want to say maybe 3 weeks ago and she talked all about " LAND" and it looks AMAZING. And I believe Robin directed the movie as they showed her going back and forth IN front of the camera and then BEHIND the camera.

I went to the movie theater for the first time in over a year. I've had both my vaccines & the theaters just relaxed their restrictions. They still have a few: Not just empty seats to encourage Social Distancing, but many seats were actually removed to leave empty spaces. I liked that. Plus, the ticket seller gal actually assigns your seats to ensure this. She shows the map with the available seats & you get to pick from them. Everyone still wears masks unless they are eating/drinking. Quite a few hand sanitizer dispensers in the halls & in the entrance of the theater. I noticed a lot of people using them too. While not completely full, there were quite a few people there.
I went with my granddaughter to see Raya and the Last Dragon. We both loved it. It's a Disney Movie, although we didn't' know this before going. I noticed it's available on Disney +, but at $30.00 per view as a rental, I thought that was way too steep. Plus, it wasn't just a movie for us. It was a day outing. It was better than expected for both of us. Great story, more complex than most Disney cartoons. Although you can somewhat predict the happy ending (It is a Disney cartoon after all), getting there & the character development & growth is the best part.
Totally recommended for both children & adults. I believe it's rated PG, but not for anything offensive. The situation Raya & her cohorts are dealing with is kind of harsh, but ultimately resolves itself with a happy ending. I suppose the harsh part could be a bit upsetting for very young children, although my granddaughter is 8 and had no problem whatsoever. This is an exciting adventure rather than a laugh a minute movie.
