Oh my goodness; at least someone else sees the author's real life as being one hell of a story! Jake will rock this role, will watch.

We watched State of Play over the weekend. Amused that they cast Russell Crowe and Ben Affleck as college roommates, when Crowe is 9 years older than Affleck.

I was in a James and the Giant Peach mood, so I rewatched. Such a charming film, and I love it when he gets to New York.

Just perfect. *chef's kiss* Robert Shaw had one of the best introductions of any character in movie history - at the town meeting with the nails on the chalkboard. Iconic. One of my favorite movies of all the. I’ll watch it any time it’s on.

The Piano. Haunting and amazing. Holly Hunter really did play the piano in the movie.

We watched Splinter on Amazon Prime last night... Sci-fi/horror. It kept us entertained from beginning to end. It made me jump a lot, lol!
We also watched Vigilante with Olivia Wilde as the main actor. It was good.

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It - there will never be another as good as the first one, but this was a decent addition to the franchise.

I watched part of "Next" . . . a movie from around 2007, starring Nicolas Cage. Don't judge - I just love Nic in almost everything I've seen him in. He's deliciously quirky.
That said, I didn't make it to the halfway point in "Next." It was pretty bad.
One fun thing is that they filmed part of it at the Havasupai Indian Reservation at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. I've been there!!! It was totally geographically wrong. You can't DRIVE there; you either hike in or ride a mule. And the waterfall is two miles past the village. Even so, when they showed the restaurant in the background of the scene, I got a little excited to be able to say, "Hey, I've eaten there!"

I watched 2 movies on the planes while going/coming from vacation:
Wonder Woman 1984. No comparison to Wonder Woman #1. I LOVED the first one, but this one was a huge disappointment. It isn't awful, but still a disappointment. If I had paid to watch it I'd be more negative on it, but it was free on the plane, so I figure what the heck. A way to kill over 2 hours of a 4.5 hour flight.
The Father. It starred Anthony Hopkins & Olivia Coleman. They were both fantastic in this. So darned real I could hardly imagine it was acting. It's the story of a man deteriorating from Dementia. Told mostly from his point of view. It's not a movie full of action or major drama, just a heartbreakingly real movie with some of the best acting I've seen in quite a while. It didn't leave me happy, but feeling like I know more of what people go through with this horrible disease. There was no villain or bad guy in this movie except the disease. If you don't mind not getting a feel good movie, I'd highly recommend it.

I wasted an hour and 45 minutes of my life that I can't get back watching Wild Mountain Thyme last night. The cast is pretty good, so even though I'd seen the bad reviews, I thought, "How bad could it be?" As it turns out, BAD. REALLY bad. Basically, Emily Blunt and Jamie Dornan play Irish country bumpkins and neighbors who pine for each other for decades but, in spite of the fact that they look like Emily Blunt and Jamie Dornan, they don't think the other feels the same. Oh, and it spite of the fact that they look like Emily Blunt and Jamie Dornan, there is ZERO physical chemistry between then. Also, in spite of the fact that they look like Emily Blunt and Jamie Dornan, no one else in the entire county finds either of them appealing enough to date, so they're both completely single. In fact, JD's character is considered the oddball of the village. IRL, even an oddball would get some play if he looked like that.
There's Christopher Walken with a ridiculously vague accent as JD's father and Jon Hamm as an American cousin and completely unnecessary character who really just seems like Don Draper in the 2020's.
Both leads spend lots of time staring off into the distance looking thoughtful or lovelorn or just constipated. It's hard to tell. The dialogue was stilted and just bizarre, like a high school kid trying to sound deep or lyrical. By the end, I just wanted to conk the both of them on the head. Then the ending. OH MY GOD, the ending. I'd read there was a twist, but didn't want to know ahead of time, so I watched it unspoiled. All I can say is that in a MILLION guesses, I never would have guessed the twist and was left asking, "What the hell did I just watch?" I mean, it was bad. I hope they all got paid a lot of money or had a nice time making it because at least something good would have come out of that turd of a movie. So yeah,

Ha, what a review. Now I want to know the twist. Shhhhh.....just watch. :wink
Everything is a mess. The accents. Christopher Walken. The twist. I was spoiled for the twist but there's nothing like seeing it actually being played out on the screen. If you go in knowing it's a mess it is so much better.

I was in a James and the Giant Peach mood, so I rewatched. Such a charming film, and I love it when he gets to New York. My friend Jim worked some of the animation in that movie! He also did a bit on The Nightmare Before Christmas! Yup, I'm dropping his name and being all"ooh, I know someone in the biz" lol He's my ex, though. So no more free promo stuff for me. lol Also, I do enjoy James And The Giant Peach. It's underappreciated, I think.

Sgt. Stubby. A beautifully animated movie about real life hero Sgt. Stubby and his amazing adventures and remarkable trecord of bravery while serving on the French front during WWII. I LOVE this movie beyond ... Oh my God, I love SGt. Stubby! Sergeant Stubby (1916 or 1917 – April 4, 1926), was the most decorated war dog of World War I and the only dog to be promoted to sergeant through combat. America's first war dog, Stubby served for 18 months and participated in seventeen battles on the Western Front. He saved his regiment from surprise mustard gas attacks, found and comforted the wounded, and even once caught a German spy by the seat of his pants, holding him there until American soldiers found him. Back home his exploits were front page news of every major newspaper. Stubby, according to vintage articles from his time (linked below in "references") and this 1921 one in particular, was noted to be a Boston Bull Terrier,[1] which is the old term for the Boston Terrier breed.[2][3][4] Stubby was found wandering the grounds of Yale Field in New Haven, Connecticut while a group of soldiers were training. The dog hung around as the men drilled and one soldier, Corporal Robert Conroy, developed a fondness for the Boston Terrier. When it came time for the outfit to ship out, Conroy hid Stubby on board the troop ship. The story goes that upon discovery by Conroy's commanding officer, Stubby saluted him as he had been trained to in camp, and the commanding officer was so impressed that he allowed the dog to stay on board. Military service [5] Stubby served with the 102nd Infantry, 26th (Yankee) Division in the trenches in France for 18 months and participated in four offensives and 17 battles. He entered combat on February 5, 1918 at Chemin des Dames, north of Soissons, and was under constant fire, day and night for over a month. In April 1918, during a raid to take Schieprey, Stubby was wounded in the foreleg by the retreating Germans throwing hand grenades. He was sent to the rear for convalescence, and as he had done on the front was able to improve morale. When he recovered from his wounds, Stubby returned to the trenches. After being gassed himself, Stubby learned to warn his unit of poison gas attacks, located wounded soldiers in no man's land, and — since he could hear the whine of incoming artillery shells before humans could — became very adept at letting his unit know when to duck for cover. He was solely responsible for capturing a German spy in the Argonne. Following the retaking of Château-Thierry by the US, the women of the town made Stubby a chamois coat on which were pinned his many medals. He also helped free a French town from the Germans. At the end of the war, Conroy smuggled Stubby home. After returning home, Stubby became a celebrity and marched in, and normally led, many parades across the country. He met Presidents Woodrow Wilson, Calvin Coolidge, and Warren G. Harding. Starting in 1921, he attended Georgetown University Law Center with Conroy, and became the Georgetown Hoyas' team mascot. He would be given the football at halftime and would nudge the ball around the field to the amusement of the fans. Medals and Awards 3 Service Stripes Yankee Division YD Patch French Medal Battle of Verdun 1st Annual American Legion Convention Medal New Haven World War I Veterans Medal Republic of France Grande War Medal St Mihiel Campaign Medal Wound stripe, replaced with Purple Heart when introduced in 1932 Chateau Thierry Campaign Medal 6th Annual American Legion Convention Humane Education Society Gold Medal Stubby was also featured in the Brave Beasts exhibit at the Legermuseum in Delft, The Netherlands.

We watched the movie Scare Me. The premise is two people tell each other scary stories. It was billed as horror. I honestly don't know what the hell we watched. I thought they would tell stories and the creatures in them would come to life. They were in a cabin in the woods at night..... instead we got stupid stories, stupid acting, pizza, cocaine and some weird music and dancing. Ugh! I kept thinking something good was going to happen.... it didn't. What a waste of my time.
We did watch the movie The 8th Night on Netflix. It is a Korean movie about the end of the world. It really wasn't out and out horror, it was suspenseful, dramatic and I really enjoyed it. Basically, there is a race to stop the end of the world. There are Buddhists and mysticism..... it was a good watch.

Summer Of Soul. It is available on Hulu but I went to see it in a theater. This was a series of soul concerts held over 6 straight weekends in Harlem in the Summer of 1969. The whole thing was filmed but due to Woodstock they couldn’t find a buyer. So the films sat in storage unseen until now. Performances by some of the bigger names in black music of the time. It is highly recommended by ME.
