We went (last week) and saw THE CARD COUNTER with Oscar Issac and really ENJOYED it.
Last night at home we were looking around and found on HBO a real THROWBACK to the 70's .... The French Connection with a very young Gene Hackman and Roy Scheider.
While we had seen it years ago......it was then and now.......OUTSTANDING!!!

The Vanishing on Amazon Prime. Gerard Butler. Dark, not entertaining.
I didn't realize until watching it that the older guy who played Jacob on Ozark was Scottish!!!!

The actress in the movie with Oscar playing a friend then love interest is Tiffany Haddish.

Noooo...she's a director, not an actress. I thought this was the movie they did together that she directed.

I checked, and she's in Europe promoting another movie right now. Anyway, I was wrong; it was "The Letter Room" she directed Oscar in, not this movie.

Cinderella 2021Watched this today on Netflix. I think it's a Netflix Exclusive. I thought it was a Disney movie, so searched yesterday on Disney+ first & didn't find it. Redid the search today on the Home Screen & voila! It was on Netflix. It was worth my time, but all in all kind of disappointing. They tried too hard to modernize the traditional Cinderella, while still keeping the traditional old times setting & all the same characters & storyline. This didn't work as well as they hoped it would. Much of the language used was too modern to fit the rest of it. They tried too hard to make Cinderella a "modern woman" & it just didn't fit the times. At the end the Prince/Cinderella said something like "We don't want to put a label on our relationship". That did it for me. I groaned & shook my head. That's NOT the Cinderella I wanted or grew up with. We don't need some sellout "let's shack up" Cinderella. That alone ruined it for me. The songs were all in all not great. **exception** When the Prince burst into Queen's "Somebody to Love" that was a true joy. They could have reprised it at the end & made me very happy. Some of the changes were great though: I loved Billy Porter as the Fabulous Godmother. The Stepmother & Stepsisters weren't nearly as grating or obnoxious as they usually are. They were more normal. Of course, the Glass Slipper came into play, but there was no "put it on her foot, perfect fit" bit. I wanted that. The mice were there & fun as usual. All in all, the movie just tried way too hard to be something it didn't need to be. This one won't be remembered for long. My very favorite Cinderella was the Rogers & Hammerstein one with Lesley Ann Warren & Stuart Damon. Of all the others, they've never topped that one.

MissScarlet - the new Cinderella movie is on Prime Video. At least if it's the one with Camila Cabello and Billy Porter, that's where it is. I've never cared for the original Cinderella "waiting for a man to come and marry me" nonsense. Maybe I'll watch this one. It sounds more interesting.

I've never cared for the original Cinderella "waiting for a man to come and marry me" nonsense. Maybe I'll watch this one. It sounds more interesting. You are so right about where it is shown. I realized after posting that it was on Amazon Prime. I posted Netflix in error. Half the time I can't tell the difference, except that Prime often charges rental. Netflix doesn't. Thanks for the correction. You would probably enjoy this version then. It's definitely different. My biggest problem is that it seems so forced. Billy Porter is a real joy in this new one. And the "Somebody To Love" song. As for the "waiting for a man" issue, I'm normally the same way you are too. It's a problem for me in many movies, not to mention seeing it in real life. I'm huge on competent women taking matters into their own hands & dealing with their own lives.. But for some reason I'm totally the opposite when it comes to older Fairy Tales. I'm a traditionalist. I love the original stories & don't want them changed to fit into "modern" sensibilities. I say write new ones with strong women heroines, but keep the old ones traditional. I can still appreciate the old love stories. They don't need to be changed or "updated". Plus, don't throw love & marriage out the window simply in order to try to prove a point. A woman can have it both ways.

Hi razorbacker, we saw TIME TO DIE the weekend it came out and I was shocked at the ending. I had read no spoilers on it and was so surprised AND confused. Yes, where does the Bond franchise go from here?

Saw The Last Duel today. Great cast with a story based on true events. Just glad I didn’t live in the 1300’s.

Went to see Dune yesterday & just about the time I figured out what the heck was going on, it ended. They set it up for part 2 which was just green lighted & hasn't even begun filming yet. I can't say I disliked it, but I am not over the moon either. The sound was great though...

If you like those kinds of shows, have you seen the 1st season of The Great with Ell Fanning as a young Catherine? Really good, on Hulu. Season 2 happens on the 19th.

I DO, actually both Hubby and I do love all those historical "setting" movies. He even grabbed his iPad to see which King Henry this was as they do not mention it until mid through the movie when someone refers to him as King Henry the 5th. Loved it. Big cast. Great acting. I absolutely love Ell Fanning. THANKS so much razorbacker Totally checking this out!!!

The show is fun the cast is outstanding but I have to warn you it can get pretty risqué, in a humorous way I am looking forward to season 2

I confess to being a "Cumberbitch" and will watch almost anything with Benedict Cumberbatch.
Today we watched "The Electrical Life of Louis Wain" on Amazon. Not sure exactly what we expected from the brief blurbs we read, but it was . . . definitely a different kind of movie.
The make-up artist deserves some kind of award for her skill in ageing the actors.
