I watched Con Air last night. I'd never seen it before. I wasn't sure I even wanted to see it, but it was on Charge TV & I had nothing else to do or watch so figured What the heck. This was a good movie. Much better than I expected. It was a fun watch. I'm not a fan of Action Movies normally. Too much violence & destruction. This film definitely lived up (or down) to that expectation, but I liked it anyhow.
It caught my attention right off the bat & never let it go right up to the crazy, over the top ending. Definitely got an OMG out of me. Then another one. And another one. In addition to the violence & destruction, it had loads of stuff I like in movies: Good characters. I was rooting for the "good guys" and wanting the "bad guys" to get what they deserved. Good, although improbable & a bit crazy, storyline. Loads of edge-of-your-seat stuff. Storyline wrapped itself up well with a happy ending. Also, much of it was filmed in Wendover, NV/Utah. I've been there a number of times & recognized the locations. I like that in a movie. Can't wait now to go back & see the airport with a different eyepoint.

TOP GUN/MAVERICKOUTSTANDING movie. Whether or not you like Tom Cruise you will love this movie. The acting is fabulous, the storyline is excellent. If you plan on going do NOT read any spoilers. We went this afternoon, whoa it was great! It's just incredible technical wizardry and masterful flying at play. I liked it better than the first Top Gun So did we!

Oh my gosh, I loved Top Gun too!! I just saw it today, and loved what they did with it, tying the past to the present. I loved the music too! I cried, and cringed, and was tense, and also laughed -- it was well worth waiting for (they filmed in 2019 I think!). The actor playing Goose's son really did a good job with having some of the same mannerisms as his "father" - I completely bought that they were related. There were some cheesy parts, just a few, but there were in the first movie too, so that fits! The first movie was such an iconic moment in my life (I knew an extra in the movie), so I guess I'm more emotionally tied to it and really wanted this new movie to be good. And it IS! I was so relieved and happy that it was so well done. Thanks, momrek06 for the warning about the spoilers though, because I was not spoiled, and was ROCKED.

I have a friend who I can look at and say, "Put the bunny back in the box" (in the accent, of course) and we'll both bust out laughing. No one else knows what we're talking about. That movie is such a quintessentially 90s action flick. It's so hilariously over the top. Great cast too.

It was flying fairly low, and was a bit scary. We didn't know if it was some sort of terrorist attack and whether they might crash into a casino. Word finally got around the strip that they were filming a movie, so tension dropped. When it finally came out and we saw previews of the plane flying over LV, we knew we had to go see it. We loved it!

The Salisbury Poisonings
This is a 4-part series - all on one disc. It is very well done. Most people were aware of the father and daughter who were poisoned in England by the Russians, but this show goes behind the scenes to show how many other people were affected and the tremendous lengths the government went to in order to discover the source of the poison and protect the community... Good performances and notes at the end about what happened to the real people portrayed in the series. It's scary to consider , the reach Russia has.Well worth watching.

In the middle of reading Joel Grey's memoir, Master of Ceremonies, I realized I'd never actually seen Cabaret. I know all the songs, so I think my brain just decided I'd seen it. Luckily, it's available on Paramount+, so I paused my reading and watched Cabaret. It's dated in some ways - particularly in some of Fosse's directing choices, but it's still pretty fabulous and a nice way to spend (part of) an afternoon.

I watched Father Stu with Mark Wahlberg over the weekend. The reviews were okay, but I enjoyed it a lot. The real Father Stu was quite a character and admire his determination to become a priest. I also watched some of the extras with the real Father Stu. I have to admit, I cried.
Also, Mel Gibson plays his father. I was reminded as to what a good actor he is. A shame with all that baggage he has at this point.

Just watched the latest Downton Abbey movie on Peacock. Having had the wonderful experience of visiting Highclere House ("Downton Abbey") and walk ing throughout the building and grounds, I am a basket case of tears. As the procession walked down that familiar walkway leading up to the house, I had so many wonderful memories. I shall miss the Crawleys.
But, regarding the movie . . . I just can't figure out how so many British people got such deep tans BEFORE going to the south of France.

The Northman..I liked it more than my husband did. It was good.

I was never an Elvis fan either but my Mom loved him and growing up she played his music all the time. I knew all his songs through my Mom's love of him. Watching this movie I can easily see how all those young ladies back in the 50's, 60's, 70's loved him! Austin Butler .... I could watch him play Elvis over and over again. AB had all his moves as though he really was EP. Outstanding. Tom Hanks did amazing playing the manager that scammed the heck out of EP. Lisa Marie P. and Priscilla P. applauded the movie.

Yea, Colonel Parker really took Elvis for a ride. Elvis really trusted him too. We watched the Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. This movie is hysterical. I had tears running down my face at points. Silly and over the top. Well worth the watch.

Fantastic Beasts: Dumbledore Secrets Hear me out, AZChristian, the wand Dumbledore gave to Kowalski is the Elder Wand. He knew he couldn't have it in his possession if Grundenwald took his wand in battle...so...a Muggle, completely harmless who has no true idea of wandlore. Another clue is that it has no core. Which the Elder Wand handcrafted by Death wouldn't- it would look a wonky stick as this wand does. At some point, Dumbledore would ask for the wand from Kowalski and encase it in regular wand material so it becomes the wand Grundenwald thinks he steals from Dumbledore's grave. Cleaver, huh? I really liked this ending to the Fantastic Beasts trilogy...I, mean, really - a wedding and a reunion. I got a little verklempt.

The Wrecking Crew.
If you listened to the music of the 50’s &60’s and think you know who was playing on your favorite song you need to watch this movie. The Wrecking Crew were a group of LA based studio musicians that provided the instrumentation for literally thousands of hit records that got passed off as someone more famous. Drummer Hal Blaine for instance played on 7 consecutive records of the year and he was never credited.
Anyhow if you have any interest in the soundtrack to your life I think you will love this behind the scenes look. It is available on Hulu.

This weekend, I watched A Quiet Place, and then A Quiet Place Part 2.
I'm not usually a fan of the Horror genre, at all, but my sister talked me into watching this movie, because of a book I'd read and it reminded her of this movie. She had seen it in the theater one afternoon - all alone! yikes! I watched them on Amazon Prime, the first one I had to pay for (but had a credit), and the second was included in my Prime movies for free.
They were both very good movies, though I jumped so much, I scared my pets away. I like John Krasinski and Emily Blunt (who are married IRL), a lot, and they're both excellent in their roles this time. The first movie went so fast, it was over before I knew it! You'd think it would seem slow with so little talking, but it's so intense that it makes time fly I guess.
The premise of the movie is that there are alien creatures that have invaded, which cannot see, but they have very sensitive hearing -- and if they hear you, they attack. And they're really fast, really violent and strong, oh and really ugly/gross too of course. The people in the movie have to be SO quiet in everything they do, otherwise the noise brings on one of the creatures and you're pretty much dead. These aliens can get through pretty much anything to make the noise stop, so there aren't good hiding places, and they're covered with hard shells that make them pretty much bulletproof. The town is abandoned, but one of the characters sneaks into the pharmacy for medicine, and you can see shelves full of loud foods like chips and nuts, because there's no way anyone would be able to eat those things much less open a bag!
The wife character is pregnant in the 1st movie, which made me worry how they'd keep a baby quiet! Or even give birth. The children in the family are also VERY good actors. Boy, I give them so much credit: Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe. They did an excellent job, especially in the 2nd movie. Millicent is a deaf actor, so her character's challenges were even more life-threatening!

Just got back from the theater watching ELVIS. It was great, and better than I expected. I, like everyone else, have seen plenty of promos for this movie, as well as seeing Austin Butler on a few talk shows. I didn't think he looked at all like the real Elvis, but that was before watching the movie. Not only does he look, move, sing and talk like Elvis, but after a while I wasn't sure whether I was watching clips of the real Elvis or of Austin Butler, toward the end. He was fantastic. As was Tom Hanks as Colonel Tom Parker. We all know Elvis as the phenomenon he was. He really did revolutionize music & created Rock & Roll as we all came to know it. But this movie showed what a sad story his life really was. Sometimes the people we think have, or had, it all, really don't. Money, fame & all the "stuff" that comes with it just weren't the stuff that makes happiness. Just "stuff'. I also loved the music, except for the rap music during the credits. Totally unnecessary. This wasn't a rap movie. It just didn't belong there. At the end of the movie he said something about how he never did anything worth remembering. That people would forget about him right away & no one would remember him. How wrong he was. There were only 3 people at the Matinee showing. I guess that means it isn't long for the theater. The Matinee show was only $10.00 for the movie, a small popcorn, and a small soft drink, and these "smalls" weren't all that small. I barely finished the drink & brought half the bag of popcorn home. And I'm a popcorn fanatic. Highly recommended.

I watched CATS late this afternoon, on, I think, Freebie streaming channel. It used to be IMDB. Yes, I mean that Cats. The one with all the dismal reviews & no recommendations at all. I've always wanted to see this movie, even with the bad reviews. It's such a hugely popular Broadway play. I figured "How bad could it be?" Well.......... It's not that bad. I actually enjoyed seeing it. Maybe that's because I expected the worst. It did leave a lot to be desired as far as storyline. The cat-characters were distinct & somewhat well done. The singing & dancing were good. Thank goodness, because that was pretty much all there was to it. The costumes were OK. Most of them were little more than naked cats. They took some getting used to. I did like the way the ears moved. That goes to show how much was going on in the movie, that I was fascinated by the movement of ears. Anyhow, I can't honestly recommend it. I'm glad I didn't pay for it either in the theater or as pay streaming. But it wasn't a total waste of my time either. If anyone else has been wanting to see it, go ahead. It's not that terrible.

I thought since it's been out so long and it was the afternoon that there wouldn't be too many people there but it was a pretty crowded theater.

I just got back from vacation. I got to spend a lot of hours flying & watching movies. I always like that. It passes the time & I get to see movies that always seemed interesting, if not enough to bother going to the theater for them. This time I watched: House of Gucci: This was good, but not fantastic. Lady Gaga was good, but not fantastic. Definitely worth watching though.
Father Stu: I enjoyed this one a lot. It was slow moving, but very good. I expected a bit more, but was still satisfied with the movie. The real Father Stu was a really inspiring man. Mark Walberg was very good, but Mel Gibson was great. Out of all the characters, he was very believable in this part. As libgirl2 said, it reminded us what a good actor he is. Sad ending, but expected & inspiring. Also well worth watching
The Eyes of Tammy Faye: I wasn't expecting much, but really enjoyed this one. Like everyone else, I know the Jim & Tammy Faye disaster. I didn't realize though, that the huge fraud/embezzelment/scamming was from Jim, not Tammy Faye. She was a genuinely religious woman who was just along for the ride, and was treated horribly. I came to like her & sympathize with her a lot by the end of it. It also showed just how sexist, bigoted and just all around rotten Jerry Falwell & Pat Robertson were. Not nice men at all. Jessica Chastain was fantastic in the Tammy Faye role. Extremely convincing. She definitely earned the Best Actress Oscar. Again, well worth watching, if nothing else, for Jessica Chastain.
