Last night I watched Citizen Kane. It still holds up after all these years & is a very good movie. I had seen it before, many years ago, but had forgotten so much about it. I enjoyed seeing so many actors/actresses who were new back then, but later went on to noteworthy careers: Joseph Cotten who became a big Hollywood star. Ruth WarricK (the future Phoebe Wallingford from All My Children) Agnes Moorehead (the future Endora from Bewitched) And of course, Orson Welles, who went on to a very illustrious career. I believe he was only 25 when he wrote, produced, and starred in Citizen Kane. It was his first ever film. Many Thumbs Up for this movie. .....

The Northman: After thinking about it, I really enjoyed The Northman because it was epic and messy in only the way a Robert Eggers movie can be. Bjork shines in her 2 minute cameo, and Nicole Kidman and Anya Taylor Joy are great too. There's an interesting twist, and the ending fight scene is fantastic.

I just watched this one last night and loved it. Like Eggers' other films The Witch and The Lighthouse, I started out thinking "what on earth am I watching?" and then got sucked in for the ride. And I didn't think I'd like Kidman in this movie, but she was good. Alexander Skarsgard, I'll always watch.

Nope.... very disappointed. Overlong, slow and storylines that didn't contribute to the story.

Don't Worry Darling:
In the words of the great Aretha Franklin, "Great gowns, beautiful gowns." Very interesting in a "Black Mirror" type of way because of the twist, but at the same time it left a bad taste in my mouth because of the lack of autonomy for certain characters. Florence Pugh was great as always but Harry Styles needs to stick with his day job. The art directing is fantastic as it features the beauty of the MCM houses in Greater Palm Springs, where it was filmed. The Kaufmann House (Frank's house in the movie) in particular is amazing and it's great that they got permission to film there. I basically watched this for house porn and Florence, lol.

Somehow, I don't think I'd ever watched "A Christmas Story" (maybe I did many years ago, but forgot). We watched it the other night. Totally socially unacceptable in modern times, but we laughed our heads off during many scenes.
We also watched the sequel. Meh.

We really enjoyed the first 2/3 of it and thought the rest was okay. It was worth the watch plus it had Idris Elba in it!

Totally socially unacceptable in modern times, but we laughed our heads off during many scenes. We also watched the sequel. Meh. I'm one of the few people I know who actually saw A Christmas Story in the theater. IIRC, it was in theaters for a matter of a few weeks and then it was gone. My friend who I saw it with and I kept telling people about it and how funny it was, but no one paid us much attention. Plus, they couldn't go see it because it left theaters so quickly AND it used to take SO long for movies to go to VHS, much less cable. It didn't gain popularity until much later, when people could watch it on TV. I haven't watched the sequel yet. I plan on waiting so I can watch it with my dad.
There are so many lines from ACS that seeped into my family's special language. I don't know if it's that so many 80s movies were just insanely quotable, or that it was a formative time for me (probably a bit of both), but I seem to quote the movies from that time more than any other.
I love Sixteen Candles like no other, but you wanna talk about "socially unacceptable in modern times"? Yikes. I still laugh, but I know that movie would never get made today....and I'll riot in the streets if they try to do a remake.

Aw, I love A Christmas Story. I absolutely must watch that at least once every Christmas, along with National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and Scrooged. We watched Smile the other night, and while jump scares usually leave me rolling my eyes, a couple of scenes really got me. I loved it. Solid psychological horror film.

Last night . . . "LOVE ACTUALLY." Followed by the 20-year retrospective program on ABC. I'm still smiling . . . with occasional moments of laughing out loud.
Hugh Grant's dance is a guaranteed cure when you're in need of a laugh. Followed closely by Colin Firth's proposal in (kind of) Portuguese.

Started, but didn't finish. It was awful.

Black Adam - Liked it.
Bullet Train - liked it. Funny. A lot of stylized violence, I burst out laughing at points, however it might not be for everyone.

Don't Worry Darling.......I had no idea what was going on? FP's acting was PHENOMENAL! SIGNS. Absolutely FABULOUS All of these were on either HBO or SHOWTIME.

Don't Worry Darling - I didn't know where this was going, either. But Florence Pugh's amazing self kept me riveted - Chris Pine, too. Harry Styles has zero appeal to me, I wish they'd had another actor in that role. I enjoyed the twist, I just wish they'd gone a little more in depth about it.

Harry Styles is terrible. They could have done more with the character that figured out something was wrong earlier, and overall the movie needed more depth but it was like a middle of the road Black Mirror episode that was interesting. I watched it for Florence Pugh and the House Porn, mostly.

We watched Smile over the weekend. I liked it more than my husband. It had a real "Ring" vibe to it. Just enough creep. Sosie Bacon was really good. I didn't realize she is the daughter of Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick. Looking at some of the special features, I did notice that she looks like her parents.
