Bohemian Rhapsody, we loved it. Rami Malek as Freddie did a superb job. I'd go again.. Just got back from that one. It was great. Rami positively channeled Freddie.

Had a Liam Hemsworth moviefest inadvertently:
Cut Bank-great supporting cast, and easy to see the plot twist The Dressmaker-Australian film that was quite a gem. Comedy, revenge, couture, and tragedy all in one film! The Duel-A very strange western with Woody Harrelson.
The Amazon Firestick kept suggesting films, and it made for a pleasant Sunday afternoon.

Watched the documentary on Fred Rogers. It made me long for his type of civility to be prominent in our current world.

Six headed shark attack. It was actually better than I thought it would be. That sounds like a movie Mystery Science Theater 3000 would have made fun of when the show was on ages ago... I'm gonna have to check this out just because of the name. Sounds awful in a great way!!!

We watched Bohemian Rhapsody. Twice. Different theaters. Slightly different versions. The second time was better, but neither version had the scene we see in the commercial where drummer Roger Taylor's afraid to touch the chicken. That must be in the final cut. According to an interview I saw with Rami Malek -- who is AMAZING as Freddy, btw -- the DVD release will be an extended version. It will include the entire Queen at Live Aid set. Plus, I'm told the DVD will explain how John Deacon came to join the band, more detail on how the name 'Queen' came to be, more of Freddy and Mary's relationship as well as some NYC club scenes that were cut for various reasons. I wish I could post the video I saw on YouTube that someone posted last Friday after the premiere, but it was deleted almost as fast as it was posted due to copyright infringements. It was a split screen video where the top half of the screen was the movie version of Queen at Wembley Stadium and the bottom half of the screen was the actual footage from Live Aid. It is amazing how much attention to detail they put into recreating that event -- right down to that atrocious dorky pink print shirt bassist John Deacon wore at Wembley, and his even more atrocious haircut. lol All-in-all, good movie if you're a Queen fan. I felt so sorry for Freddy throughout the film. (Tried not to cry). All that fame and fortune, and yet he seemed so lonely and sad for much of his life. I felt like his cats were his closest friends.

A Star is born..
I love Lady GaGa, she has a tremendous voice. I also love Bradley Cooper, but most of his drunken mumbling wasn't easy to listen to. I thought it was good, but Bohemian Rhapsody was 100% better imho.

We went to Netflix last night. No interest in politics here, so we decided to watch a movie.
Oh . . . this one looks good. "Apostle" with Dan Stevens and Michael Sheen. Blurb said something about a man who is trying to rescue his sister from a religious cult on a deserted island.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME ON THIS MOVIE.
It was a vile, poorly done, confusing horror movie. Dan and Michael should NEVER have lowered themselves to appear in it. A score of 0 on a 1-10 scale.

Watched Train to Busan. What starts out as an interesting zombie/contagion flick aboard a train quickly turns into one about relationships; a dad and his daughter, a father and mother to be, a boyfriend/girlfriend, and other assorted people struggle with helping your fellow man vs being selfish and the consequences of your behavior. It is a very good foreign film and I definitely recommend it.

This is the time of year that I really look forward to, at the movies! Probably cause all the best films (and many of the Oscar contenders) seem to be released about now.
So, first I saw "First Man" with Ryan Gosling and Claire Foy. I thought that Ryan was good, but Claire was outstanding!!! I had forgotten everything that Neil Armstrong went through --- and it was really chilling. I thought the film was very well done. Very gritty, and very reminiscent of the 60s!
Then I saw "Alpha" -- what a surprise! It was not at all what I was expecting, and I really enjoyed it. The young actor, Kodi Smit-McPhee is someone to keep an eye on! He was really compelling!
Then I saw "A Star is Born" and although I definitely have to give props to both Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper for their acting chops, I really liked the Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson version soooo much better!
Then I saw "Bohemian Rhapsody" and Rami Malek was fabulous -- but the film itself seemed so reminiscent of soooo many other films about the characters' backstory, and how they made it, that I thought it dragged a bit here and there.
Also I just re-watched one of the 2015 mega hits, "The Martian"!!! One my FAVORITE FILMS EVER!!! I LOVED the film and loved Matt Damon!!! Just thinking about it makes me smile!!!

If you can catch Seoul Station, its billed as a sequel but I think it takes place right around the same time. Its animated but you forget about that as you watch it.

Another fun fact, in the movie the big screens they had on the sides for the Live Aid segment had actual footage of when Queen performed.

I went to see Beautiful Boy over the weekend. It's taken me a couple of days to process it and decide that I think the movie fell flat. I wanted to love it. I wanted to be wowed by Steve Carrell. Walking out of the theater, I met a woman whose grandson is going through drug addiction similar to what is shown in the film, and that drove home just how important it is for the story to be told. But the more I think about it, the more I have to accept that the movie told a great story, but something about it made it fall short. The best way I can say it is that they showed the story but didn't help the audience to feel the story. Had I not had the experience walking out of talking to a total stranger and hearing her story, I would have forgotten the film an hour later. It's compelling material. But it was told in such a mechanical way that I don't think it was all it could have been.

I don't normally do well at films that run longer than two hours but I was so engrossed that I was surprised when it ended. I've just watched the bands Wembly Live Aid appearance on YouTube and they sure recreated that down to what kind of cups were on the piano. I loved Freddie's relationship with Mary...he left the bulk of his estate to her.

He also left his ashes to her, she's the only one that knows where they are buried. We've seen it twice, and absolutely loved it both times. The critics often get it wrong..

Overboard with Anna Farris and Eugenio Derbez. I didn't go in expecting much but Eugenio Derbez cracks me up! I found myself quoting him for days. He was also hilarious in How to Be a Latin Lover.

We saw Bohemian Rhapsody Thursday night. Like everyone else here, we thoroughly enjoyed it. I would definitely watch it again. This was the first time we have been to the movies in over two years. And before that it had been six years. So we are not frequent moviegoers. But I really wanted to see this one in the theater. Everyone that I know has loved this movie. Who cares with the critics say? They rarely get it right anyway.
That’s cool what karna said about them using actual footage of the real performance on the screens for the Live Aid concert. I will have to pay attention to that when I watch it again! I really enjoyed watching the creative aspect of how the songs came to be.

He has a eye for detail, but I was completely fooled. Adam Lambert was the trucker who tried to lure Freddy into the men's restroom and Mike Myers was the record producer who hated "Bohemian Rhapsody" and complained about it being 6 'bloody' minutes long....(the guy whose window Freddy threw a rock through).

OMG JosephD, your Brandon certainly DOES have an eye for detail!!! Outstanding for noticing that!!!! ESP when the trucker was on all of what 6 minutes!!!! AND the same for MM, he was obviously on more but I had NO CLUE at all!!! I did feel he was someone that was totally MADE UP as far as make-up and hair etc BUT NO CLUE at all that it was MM until we watched the credits.
