Tori Amos is a singer-songwriter and pianist born in Newton, North Carolina, but raised in Baltimore. She is a classically trained musician who taught herself to play. When she was two, she could reproduce pieces of music she had only heard once, and, by the age of three, she was composing her own songs. She has described seeing music as structures of light since early childhood, an experience consistent with chromesthesia: Having already begun composing instrumental pieces on piano, she won a full scholarship to the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University at the age of five, the youngest person ever to have been admitted. She had to leave at the age of eleven when her scholarship was discontinued for what Rolling Stone described as "musical insubordination". During her career she has released 16 studio albums, 2 Live albums, been a part of 12 Soundtrack albums & has had 40 singles. This song comes from Scarlet's Walk, it was her 7th studio album & was released in 2002. The 18-track concept album details the cross-country travels of Scarlet, a character loosely based on Amos, as well as the concept of America post–September 11, 2001. The album got to #7 has been certified as a Gold record. It included 3 singles that landed on various charts. This song was released as the 3rd single & after it was remixed it hit #6 on the US Dance charts. Don’t Make Me Come To Vegas by Tori Amos www.youtube.com/watch?v=NhDuCBQTFeU

Earlier today Tori Amos asked us not to make her come to Vegas. These folks are coming anyway & they are just miles away. Southern Culture on the Skids, also sometimes known as SCOTS, is a rock band known for its eclectic sound which combines elements of rockabilly, surf music, country music and R&B with humorous lyrics inspired by the culture of the Southern United States. Formed in 1983 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, the band consists of Rick Miller vocals & guitar, Dave Hartman percusssion, and Mary Huff vocals & bass. They have had many of their songs included in movies. "Soul City" was heard in the 1996 film Happy Gilmore, as well as the 2005 Dukes Of Hazzard movie. "White Trash" is featured in the soundtrack for the 1996 film Beavis and Butt-head Do America. "Camel Walk" is used in the 1996 movie Flirting with Disaster, the 1997 movie Perdita Durango, and the 2009 movie Schwerkraft. It also was used on the first season of the TV show Psych in the episode "Weekend Warriors." "My Baby's Got the Strangest Ways" appears on the soundtrack to the 1997 slasher film I Know What You Did Last Summer. The band can also be seen performing the song on a beach party in the movie. Four of their songs, "King of the Mountain", "Pass the Hatchet", "Cheap Motels" and "The Corn Rocket" appeared on the soundtrack to the 2001 film Super Troopers. "Smiley Yeah Yeah Yeah" appears on the soundtrack to the 2004 Major League Baseball video game MLB 2005. "40 Miles to Vegas" appeared on the EA Sports video game NASCAR 07. "White Trash" appears in the trailer for the 2011 movie Goon. Rick Miller appeared on episode 174 of the Americana Music Show and described their 2013 release, Dig This! as being inspired by having to dig ditches around his Kudzu Ranch recording studio to fix its septic tank. "Weird Al" Yankovic featured a style parody of Southern Culture on the Skids entitled "Lame Claim to Fame" on his 14th studio album, Mandatory Fun. During their career they have released 19 albums with the most recent one happening in 2021. This comes from their Plastic Seat Sweat album. It was their 6th album & it came out in in 1997. 40 Miles To Vegas by Southern Culture On The Skids www.youtube.com/watch?v=qAtuAXyDaRE

Holme is a pop-rock band from West Orange, New Jersey that played the New Jersey dance/rock club scene in the 1970s and 1980s. The band describes itself as a "mainstream" rock band and has been described as a "legendary bar band" and "legendary Shore party band." Evidently the band is still playing together, but they never got the breaks they needed to become more than a house band. They seem to have released just 1 EP & that was in 1982 & the best I can determine they had 3 singles, none of them charted & they all came in 1981 or earlier. This journey has led to some obscure artists & that is always a good thing, if they are good at what they do. This song was from 1977. Maybe someone out there reading this has seen them at one time or another. If not & you are in the NJ area, they are still playing the bars, so you still have a chance. Today seems to be the day to find artists for whom info is almost unavailable. Even his own website provides little other than tour dates for 2021. So, he is at least still out there giving it a go. The brief biography I found says this & it says nothing about exactly what awards his won. Arlan Feiles is an award winning Singer Songwriter, Multi-Instrumentalist and Music Producer. Discovered and mentored by the late great Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Record Producer Tom Dowd, Arlan has gone on to release 5 critically acclaimed records and has his music heard in many TV programs and movies, including the trailer for the Academy award winning film The Dallas Buyers Club. Arlan is equally known for his efforts supporting voting and civil rights. His facebook pages says he is from L.A. & went to North Hollywood High School & that he now lives in Matawan New Jersey. He also studied Music Theory/Composition at Berklee College of Music. The song is good & has a bit of the Springsteen flavor. Jersey Coast line by Arlan Feiles www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuasojVrKzM

Ed Sheeran MBE is an English singer-songwriter. Born in Halifax, West Yorkshire and raised in Framlingham, Suffolk, he began writing songs around the age of eleven. Throughout his career he has been nominated for & won awards all over the world. If the totals can be trusted it appears as though he has been nominated 351 times & won 123, including 4 Grammys. In 2016 he won Song Of The Year & Best Pop Performance for Thinking Out Loud & in 2018 he won for Best Pop Solo Performance & Best Pop Vocal Album for Shape Of You. During his career he has released 4 solo studio albums, 1 collaboration album, 17 extended plays, 1 video album, 43 singles, including 17 singles as a featured artist, 7 promotional singles, 1 box set, and 71 music videos, 12 of which have been UK number-ones. This song comes from his 2nd studio album. It was called x (pronounced multiply) it was released in 2015. The album was a worldwide hit peaking at No. 1 in 15 countries, while topping both the UK Albums Chart and the US Billboard 200. x also reached the top five in seven other countries. It has been a multi platinum seller all over the world including over 2 million copies here in the US alone. This song was not included on the original release but is a bonus cut on what is referred to as The Wembley Edition. I think this guy is another example of how wrong people are when they say there is no good music coming from current artists. New York by Ed Sheeran www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7Unp69NnmI

Big Rude Jake (born A. Jacob Hiebert) is a lyricist, songwriter, singer, musician and bandleader based in Toronto, Canada. His neo-swing style incorporates elements of jazz, Cajun music and rockabilly. He started out as a solo artist, playing acoustic guitar on the open stages and folk clubs in Toronto. Eventually, he assembled his first band, “The Gentlemen Players,” which, in time, became a legendary group with a legion of dedicated fans across Canada. To this day, many years after their last concert, people still come up to Jake and ask him, “what ever happened to those fabulous Gentlemen Players?” The central idea behind the Gentlemen Players was to do what many thought impossible: play traditional jazz in punk rock bars. Even now the idea seems outrageous, and it is hard to believe that, for a time, there were line-ups around the block to see Big Rude Jake shows in some of the seediest, most low-down, toughest bars one could imagine, not to mention some of the most famous and prestigious rock and roll venues in the country. This song comes from his 1st album. It was called Butane Fumes and Bad Cologne & it came out in 1993. The album was recorded in 2 days, on 26 and 27 July 1993 in Toronto. With what the group described as a "ridiculous puny budget", the idea was to record "live off the floor, just like the old cats did". 7th Avenue by Big Rude Jake & The Gentlemen Players www.youtube.com/watch?v=WxlUUMr_9dc

Loggins and Messina was a rock-pop duo consisting of Kenny Loggins and Jim Messina, who achieved their success in the early to mid-1970s. After selling more than 16 million records and becoming one of the leading musical duos of the 1970s, they broke up in 1976. Jim Messina, formerly of Buffalo Springfield and Poco, was working as an independent record producer for Columbia Records in 1970 when he met Kenny Loggins, a little-known singer/songwriter and guitarist who was signed to ABC-Dunhill as a staff songwriter. The two recorded a number of Loggins' compositions in Messina's home living room. When Columbia signed Loggins to a six-album contract (with the assistance of Messina), recording began in earnest for Loggins' debut album, with Messina as producer. Messina originally intended to lend his name to the Loggins project only to help introduce the unknown Loggins to Messina's well-established Buffalo Springfield and Poco audiences. However, by the time the album was completed, Messina had contributed so much to the album – in terms of songwriting, arrangement, instrumentation, and vocals – that an "accidental" duo was born. Clive Davis (then president of the record company) intervened and said, 'You know, I think you'd be making a mistake if you guys didn't take this opportunity. Things like this only happen once in a lifetime. It may merit you sleeping on it overnight and making a decision that will be in your best interest.' He was absolutely correct. Kenny made the decision as well. It delayed his solo career, but it gave him an opportunity, I think, to have one” During their time together they released 6 studio albums & 3 Live albums. This song comes from the 2nd Live album. It was called Finale & it came out in 1977, after they had called it quits. And it is a reminder of the corporate greed going on in the music industry. The album was considered by some purely as a profit-taking move intended to see what money could be made before the pair faded from the public mind and in that light it can be considered a Columbia 'corporate' release, rather than one intended by artists Kenny Loggins or Jim Messina. Gillian Welch is a singer-songwriter born in New York City. She was adopted by Mitzie and Ken Welch, comedy and music entertainers. When she was three, her adoptive parents moved to Los Angeles to write music for The Carol Burnett Show. Her biological mother was a freshman in college, and her father was a musician visiting New York City. She has speculated that her biological father could have been one of her favorite musicians, and she later discovered from her adoptive parents that he was a drummer. She performs with her musical partner, guitarist David Rawlings. The two wrote & sang this song together as they do for almost all of her releases. The song comes from her 5th studio album, The Harrow & the Harvest, released in 2011. The album was nominated for a Grammy for Best Contemporary Folk Album in 2020, it lost out to Barton Hollow by The Civil Wars. The album got to #29 on the Top 200 charts, #5 on the Rock Albums Chart, #3 on the US Independents Albums Chart & #1 on the Folk Albums Chart. According to Gillian, "The songs are mostly first and second takes, and Dave composed some of the music spontaneously in the studio. It was very freeing. We learned to accept mistakes and rough edges, because those didn't impede what the heart of the matter was." Tennessee by Gillian Welch www.youtube.com/watch?v=miIeU_kIljk

The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band is a country rock band formed in 1966. The group has existed in various forms since its founding in Long Beach, California. Constant members since the early times are singer-guitarist Jeff Hanna and drummer Jimmie Fadden. Multi-instrumentalist John McEuen was with the band from 1966 to 1986 and returned during 2001, staying 16 years, then departing again in November 2017. Keyboardist Bob Carpenter joined the band in 1977. During their career they have released 25 studio albums, 1 Live album, 4 compilation albums & 41 singles including 4 #1 hits. This song comes from their 7th studio album & their 1st compilation album. It was called Will The Circle Be Unbroken & it came out in 1972 as a 3 album set. The collaborating musicians included Roy Acuff, "Mother" Maybelle Carter, Doc Watson, Earl Scruggs, Randy Scruggs, Merle Travis, Pete "Oswald" Kirby, Norman Blake, Jimmy Martin, and others. It also introduced fiddler Vassar Clements to a wider audience. The album reflects how the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band was trying to tie together two generations of musicians. Nitty Gritty Dirt Band was a young country-rock band with a hippie look. Acuff described them as "a bunch of long-haired West Coast boys." The other players were much older and more famous from the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, primarily old-time country and bluegrass players. Asleep at the Wheel is a Western swing group that was formed in Paw Paw, West Virginia, and is now based in Austin, Texas. The band has won nine Grammy Awards since their 1970 inception. Seems like they had help from some unusual folks in getting their start: In 1969, Ray Benson and Lucky Oceans (Reuben Gosfield) co-founded Asleep at the Wheel in Paw Paw, West Virginia, and soon after they found themselves opening for Alice Cooper and Hot Tuna in Washington, D.C. A year later, they moved to East Oakland, California, at the invitation of Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen. After being mentioned in Rolling Stone magazine by Van Morrison, they landed a record deal with United Artists. In 1973, their debut album, Comin' Right at Ya, was released by United Artists. At the invitation of Willie Nelson, they left Oakland for Austin in 1974. During their career they have released 26 studio albums, 16 Live albums & 21 compilations along with 40 singles. This song comes from their Wheelin' and Dealin' album. It was their 4th album & it came out in July 1976. The album was the band's last to feature Scott Hennige on drums, he was replaced by Chris York in August 1976. The album also included their version of the song "Route 66". It was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Country Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group, but they lost out to The End Is Not In Sight (The Cowboy Song) by The Amazing Rhythm Aces. The song was the 2nd single from the album & got into the Top 40 on the Country Charts. It was originally recorded by Jim McGraw And The Western Sundowners in 1961, but they released it as a “B” side. Miles & Miles of Texas by Asleep At The Wheel www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLL7Eu7mdIo

Mac Davis was a country music singer, songwriter, and actor. And yes, he was a native of Lubbock, Texas. Early in his song writing career he was employed by Nancy Sinatra's company, Boots Enterprises, Inc. He was with Boots for several years in the late 1960s. During his time there, he played on many of Nancy’s recordings, and she worked him into her stage shows. Boots Enterprises also acted as Davis's publishing company, publishing songs such as "In the Ghetto", "Friend, Lover, Woman, Wife", "Home", "It's Such a Lonely Time of Year", and "Memories", which were recorded by Elvis Presley, Nancy Sinatra, B. J. Thomas, and many others. During his early career he wrote Elvis’s hits "Memories", "In the Ghetto", "Don't Cry Daddy", and "A Little Less Conversation". His discography consists of 19 studio albums and 38 singles, 30 of which charted on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs chart between 1970 and 1986. This was the title song to his 1980 album which got to #12 on the Country chart & #67 on the Billboard Top 200 albums chart. The song itself was a #9 Country hit & it hit #51 on the pop charts. Dada is a three piece rock band from California. The band is made up of Michael Gurley (guitar/co-lead vocals), Joie Calio (bass/co-lead vocals) and Phil Leavitt (drums). The band has had limited success on the charts, but that may be a result of their record labels continually going under & not getting the support they needed. Their 1st single spent eight weeks in the modern rock charts & then their record label at the time (I.R.S. Records) began to collapse. By the release of their third album El Subliminoso in 1996, I.R.S. Records had all but folded. In 1997 the band signed to MCA Records and, in 1998, released their fourth full-length studio album simply titled dada. Their bad luck with record companies continued as the parent company of MCA was sold. During their career they have released 5 studio albums with the most recent one coming in 2004. This song comes from their 4th album called dada. It was also their debut album for MCA Records. In the U.S., it was released in 1998. "California Gold" was released as the first single from the album, neither the album nor the single got any traction on the main billboard charts. Kendall Payne is a singer-songwriter recording artist who was born in Santa Monica and raised in nearby Malibu. When she was a teenager, she signed a recording contract with Capitol Records, which released her first album, Jordan's Sister, in 1999. She spent two years on the Lilith Fair tour with Sarah McLachlan and has also toured with Dido, Ron Sexsmith, Third Day, Switchfoot, and Delirious?. From 2014 to 2018 she served as the Senior Director of Contemporary Worship at Bel Air Church (also known as Bel Air Presbyterian Church). At the 32nd Annual GMA Dove Awards in 2001, she won the award for Modern Rock Album of the Year for her debut album Jordan's Sister. I don’t think I have ever seen this before on any album or from any artist we have listened to around here. There were 6 separate songs from the album that became a part of either TV shows or movie soundtracks, but this song was not one of them. We had Closer To Myself used on Never Been Kissed & Someone Like You, there was Supermodels on Popular, Wonderland on Teaching Mrs. Tingle, The Second Day on Beautiful, On My Bones on Mysterious Ways, & Never Leave on Cupid. We begin another month, what is suspected to be a hot month, with something I expect we won’t see…a cold wind in Chicago. I find nothing on this guy other than a blurb stating that he was a studio musician from San Francisco & this album has gained a cult following. I have never heard of him before, this may be his only album, but I can say after listening to this song, I understand why he has a cult following. The guy has a great bluesy voice & plays some mean sax. Evidently the album was released in 1972. Cold Chicago Wind by Jack Bonus www.youtube.com/watch?v=sH14nfhvqkk

Hurriganes was a Finnish rock band that was formed in the early 1970s. They were very popular in Finland, Sweden and Estonia in the 1970s and early 1980s, as well as a popular live act in Sweden during this time. The misspelling of the name ("Hurriganes" with a "g") is intentional. Their style of music is very much of a nostalgic, pre-Beatles, roots rock'n'roll orientation. They can be viewed as Finland's answer to British pub rock performers of the 1970s like Dave Edmunds and Dr. Feelgood. Evidently, they are the 14th biggest selling group in Finland, behind Madonna & ABBA but ahead of Metallica. It appears as though they released 15 studio albums but there was a 17 year gap between #’s 13 & 14. They also released 9 Live albums but 5 of them came out in 2021. Their most recent album was released in 2016. This song comes from their 9th album. It was called 10/80 & as should be expected it came out in 1980. The album was a major critical and commercial success, and included the song "Bourbon Street". It was recorded in Stockholm at ABBA's Polar studios. Earl King, was a singer, guitarist, and songwriter, from New Orleans. His real name was Earl Silas Johnson IV. He was a composer of blues standards such as "Come On" (covered by Jimi Hendrix, Freddie King, Stevie Ray Vaughan) and "Big Chief" (recorded by Professor Longhair), he was an important figure in New Orleans R&B. Talk about someone else’s tragedy becoming your good fortune. I reckon Earl would qualify. He started to play the guitar at the age of 15. Soon he started entering talent contests at local clubs, including the Dew Drop Inn. At one such club he met his idol, Guitar Slim. Earl started imitating Slim, and his presence had a big impact on his musical direction. In 1954, Slim was injured in an automobile accident (right around the time he had the number 1 R&B hit "The Things That I Used To Do"), and King was deputized to continue a tour with Slim's band, representing himself as Slim. After succeeding in this role, King became a regular at the Dew Drop Inn. Earl died in 2003, from diabetes-related complications, just a week before the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, he was 69. His funeral was held on April 30, during the festival, and many musicians attended it, including Dr. John, Leo Nocentelli and Aaron Neville. This song comes from his 5th & final album, Hard River To Cross. It came out in 1993. Ain’t No City Like New Orleans by Earl King www.youtube.com/watch?v=gij7NlGGt1g

Artie Shaw was a clarinetist, composer, bandleader, actor and author of both fiction and non-fiction. He was born in New York City but raised in New Haven, Connecticut. He led one of the United States' most popular big bands in the late 1930s through the early 1940s. During the swing era, his big bands were popular but was forced to dissolve in 1937 because his sound was not commercial. Artie valued experimental and innovative music over dancing and love songs. In addition to hiring Buddy Rich, he signed Billie Holiday as his band's vocalist in 1938, becoming the first white band leader to hire a full-time black female singer to tour the segregated Southern U.S. However, after recording "Any Old Time", Billie left the band due to hostility from audiences in the South, as well as from music company executives who wanted a more "mainstream" singer. In 1938, DownBeat magazine readers voted Artie Shaw's the best swing band. He died on December 30, 2004, aged 94. According to his publicist, he had been "in ill health for some time, but I don't know the specific cause of death." In fact, he had had diabetes for a long time. This song was Originally Recorded in 1938. It was released as a single & got to #8 making it his biggest hit up to then. Back Bay Shuffle" by Artie Shaw www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItyvHFN3Hpo

I don’t find much in the way of a bio on this guy, but I did find a review of the album this song is included on, so that will have to suffice for info on the band. But it is too long & goes into each song & I know no one will care. Here is the pared down info: At some point in your life, you’ve probably heard some project that Mark Lind has been involved in, whether it be his solo work, the Ducky Boys, Dirty Water, or Sinners & Saints (with his brother Rob Lind from Blood For Blood). This is his most recent release with his newest project, the Unloved, who have been playing since around 2004. The Unloved are stripped down, straightforward rock, featuring music composed mostly by Mark. The band also features Jeff Morris[The Bruisers, Death & Taxes, Cadillac Hitmen]-who has since been replaced by Steve Young from Confront, Mike Savitkas on bass, and Jay Messina (From most of Mark’s other projects) on drums. Jeff Morris & Mark are two of this writer’s favorite composers of all time, so a band combining both of them made me think it had to be awesome, and this release certainly doesn’t disappoint. "An Open Letter to Boston" is next up, a tribute to Mark’s home town of Boston, MA. It’s not his first tribute to the city (Ducky Boys "Boston, U.S.A. is another), but it is probably the best. The song pays homage to the city that has been Mark’s home through his ups and downs, and as he says it is his last Boston song, "Until next time". The song comes from the album The Truth Can Be Brutal, it was released in 2008. An Open Letter to Boston by Mark Lind & The Unloved www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FlPdzSeMRs

The album was released in 2021. On the all-genre Billboard 200, Detroit Stories topped at number 47, number 2 on Hard Rock Albums, number 5 on Top Rock Albums, number 7 on Independent Albums and number 18 on Vinyl Albums. The album is written to tell the story of his origins in music, and the history of hard rock in Detroit. Daryl Hall born in Pottstown, Pennsylvania and John Oates born in New York City (commonly known as Hall & Oates) are a pop rock duo formed in Philadelphia in 1970. They first met at the Adelphi Ballroom in Philadelphia in 1967. At the time they met, each was heading his own musical group, Hall with The Temptones and Oates with The Masters. They were there for a band competition when gunfire rang out between two rival gangs, and in trying to escape, they ran to the same service elevator. On further discovering that they were interested in the same music and that both were attending Philadelphia's Temple University, they started spending time together on a regular basis and eventually shared a number of apartments in the city. In 2003, they were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. They remain the most successful duo of all time, ahead of the Carpenters, the Everly Brothers, and Simon & Garfunkel. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016. During their career they have released 18 studio albums, 11 Live albums, 27 compilations & 63 singles. This song comes from their 2nd studio album. It was called Abandoned Luncheonette & it came out in 1973. It was their 1st album to hit the charts & it got to #33 & went on to become a Platinum seller. The album included the hit song She’s Gone, but even though it was released as a single it stalled out at #60 on the hot 100 & did not become a hit until the duo had had some success & re-released in 1976 when it went # 7. Rumer is a British singer-songwriter born Tarbela Damis Pakistan. Sometimes I reckon life smacks you in the face when you least expect it. She was born in Pakistan because her British father was contracted as Chief Engineer of the Tarbela Dam Project, funded by the World Bank. But, she later discovered her biological father was the family's Pakistani cook, with whom her mother had had an affair when living in Pakistan. While her mother was dying of breast cancer in 2001, she asked Rumer to make the journey to Pakistan to search for her real father, with her mother reportedly saying "I want to leave this planet with my house in order". She discovered on arriving he had only recently died in a freak accident. Her debut album, Seasons of My Soul, released in 2010, peaked on the UK Charts at #3, it has been certified platinum & has sold over two million copies. The album was listed at #26 in the Official Top 40 Biggest Debut Albums of the Decade in 2019. Her voice has been described by The Guardian and many others as being reminiscent of Karen Carpenter. This song comes from her album B Sides and Rarities, it came out in 2014. The song was written by Burt Bacharach & Hal David, so you know Dionne Warwick has to provide backing vocals, it is almost an unwritten law. Joe Zook can’t be a very common name but there seems to be a guy with that name from LA that is a producer & sound mixer that has been involved in albums from One Republic, Katy Perry, U2, Pink, One Direction, Walk Off The Earth, Kelly Clarkson & Keith Urban & the list goes on & on. These guys seem to be a different group of people all together. I find very little biographical on them other than the band includes Joe Zook on guitar, Billy Holt bass, Jeff Snelson drums, James Cheadle keyboards, Angelo DiBracio alto sax, Steve Kaplan sax & clarinet, John Sopko keys, & Tony Buford on harmonica. I suspect the 2 Joe Zooks are different guys, but this band is pretty tight regardless. Here a Zook, there a Zook, everywhere a Zook Zook. The Doobie Brothers are a rock band from San Jose, California, the band got all their elements together for the 1st time in 1970. During their career they have released 15 studio albums, 6 Live albums & 36 singles. This song comes from their sixth studio album, Taking It To The Streets. The album was released on March 19, 1976. It was the first to feature Michael McDonald on lead vocals. It was also the final album for Tom Johnston for a while. His health had been failing for some time. Things became worse while touring in support of Stampede when he was diagnosed with stomach ulcers. His condition worsened and several shows had to be cancelled. With Tom forced to reduce his involvement with the band, the other members considered just calling it quits, but while in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, member Jeff Baxter suggested calling up friend and fellow Steely Dan graduate Michael McDonald, who at the time was between gigs and living in a garage apartment. McDonald was reluctant at first, feeling he was not what they wanted; according to him, "...they were looking for someone who could play Hammond B-3 organ and a lot of keyboards, and I was just a songwriter/piano hacker. But more than anything, I think they were looking for a singer to fill Tommy's shoes." While Johnston was absent for most of the sessions, he contributed one song – "Turn It Loose" – as well as back-up vocals and duet vocals with Simmons on "Wheels of Fortune". "I hadn't quit the band", he later stated. "I just wasn't physically able to do it. I needed to get off the road and get away from that whole scene for a while. The album got to #8 on the charts & included 3 singles. Taking It To The Streets was 1st & it charted at #13, it was followed by Wheels Of Fortune which stumbled into #87 & It Keeps You Running was the final single. Michael McDonald wrote singles 1 & 3. This song was written by Partick Simmons. 8th Avenue Shuffle by The Doobie Brothers www.youtube.com/watch?v=ji6TSpDVCOM
