The Byrds were a rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1964. Although their time as one of the most popular groups in the world only lasted for a short period in the mid-1960s, the Byrds are today considered by critics to be among the most influential rock acts of their era. Their signature blend of harmony vocals and Roger McGuinn's twelve-string Rickenbacker has continued to be influential. Several former members of the Byrds went on to successful careers of their own, either as solo artists or as members of such groups as Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, the Flying Burrito Brothers, McGuinn, Clark & Hillman, and the Desert Rose Band. In 1991, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, an occasion that saw the five original members performing together for the last time. Gene Clark died of a heart attack later in 1991, while Michael Clarke died of liver failure in 1993, Clarence White died in 1973, he was just 29. This song comes from Untitled which was the 9th album by them. It was released in 1970. It is a double album, with the first LP featuring live concert recordings from early 1970, and a second disc consisting of new studio recording. The band underwent multiple lineup changes throughout its existence, with Roger McGuinn (known as Jim McGuinn until mid-1967) remaining the sole consistent member. At this point in their career, the lineup was Roger McGuinn – guitar, Moog synthesizer, vocals, Clarence White – guitar, mandolin, vocals, Skip Battin – electric bass, vocals, & Gene Parsons – drums, guitar, harmonica, vocals. This was the 1st song on the LIVE portion of the album. Lover Of The Bayou by The Byrds www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8rb8KIG0tY

This song comes from her 2nd album. It was called Songs in the Night & was released in 2009. It was her first LP with her former backing band, the Midnight Shivers. If I were her, I think I would avoid getting into any cars: In mid-2017, Samantha was involved in three car accidents within three months, which left her in physical and mental pain and without use of her hands. Unable to write or play she dictated voice memos to her phone. After 12 months as she began to recover she started to play and write the songs that would become the album A Small Death, released on July 17, 2020. Sometimes ya just gotta take what you are given. Here is a pasted together bit of info on the band Kings Of Nuthin. Completely out of tune, Eight men strong and broken down not far from your hometown, they call themselves The Kings of Nuthin. In the summer of 1999 "The Boston Blackouts" officially adopted their new name "The Kings of Nuthin" and began playing outside of Massachusetts. Their history is as ludicrous as it gets, 8 punks trying to re-create an authentic rock and roll sound, failing to do so, and inventing a very unique new sound. In 1999 a band formerly called the Boston Blackouts re-formed and were looking for a new name. Spike knew the Kings A' Nuthin in Florida from when he was touring with the Racketeers and thought the name would be perfect for the band. The decision was made to let the band use the name provided they change the spelling slightly and not use any skull and crowns or any similar logos, to allow the band and the club to have their own separate identities. Both the club and the popularity of the band grew quickly and far beyond anyone's expectations and over the years there was some confusion over the origin of the name, but never any problems between the band and the club. A couple of us were members of both, and the Kings A' Nuthin were always big supporters of the band. They were our friends and made some amazing music. Kings jackets were a common sight at many Kings of Nuthin' shows back in the day. They were a great rock and roll band which I am grateful to have played a small part in. Twenty years later we are still talking about them, and our brotherhood is still going strong. Live to Win. This song comes from an album called Get Busy Livin Or Get Busy Dyin. Despite a lack of information on the band the music is happening. Boston Bound by The Kings Of Nuthin’ www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkE2hkNtWF8

Primus is a rock band formed in El Sobrante, California in 1984. Primus is characterized by its irreverent, quirky approach to music. In 1993, Robert Christgau remarked: "[Primus is] quite possibly the strangest top-10 band ever, and good for them." The band has been nominated for 3 Grammy’s, but has not won. During their career they have released 9 studio albums & 21 singles. This song comes from their 5th studio album. It was named The Brown Album & came out in 1997. It was the band's first album with new drummer Brain (he just goes by Brian) who replaced former drummer Tim Alexander. The album got very mixed reviews, with Rolling Stone going on to say…"precisely the type of weirdness that Primus have been peddling for years – progressive-rock instrumentals camouflaged in the tattered rags of punk and the absurdist narratives of a junior Zappa", although he notes that the songs "all wind up sounding the same. But the album got to #21 anyway. It seems to have produced no hit single. Kalamazoo by Primus www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dk9RS9mxHQ

Mike Posner is a singer, songwriter, and record producer, born in Detroit & raised in Southfield, Michigan. He seems to be an interesting guy outside of his music. On January 4, 2019, he announced that starting on March 1, 2019, he would begin a walk across America, indicating that the journey would take "most of my 31st year." He subsequently received a significant amount of press and fandom surrounding the walk, including an interview on CBS This Morning. On April 15, 2019, he set out from Asbury Park, New Jersey to begin the 3,000+ mile trip across the country. On August 7, his walk was delayed a few weeks after he was bitten by a rattlesnake in Colorado and airlifted to a local hospital. He finished his walk across America on October 18, 2019, in Venice Beach, Los Angeles, California. In May 2021, he traveled to Nepal in violation of the US State Department travel advisory warning people of a massive COVID-19 outbreak in the country. In Nepal he traveled to the base camp of Mount Everest and sang for climbers in the midst of a localized COVID-19 outbreak at base camp. In June 2021, he summited Mount Everest with a team composed of guide Jon Kedrowski, Dawa Chirring Sherpa and Dawa Dorje Sherpa. During his career he has released 4 studio albums, 2 extended plays, 4 mixtapes, 2 poetry albums, 23 singles (including eight as a featured artist), and 13 music videos (including one as a featured artist). Otis Spann was a blues musician, whom many consider to be the leading postwar Chicago blues pianist. It is kind of sad that I run into this so many times with these old black blues artists, but he is yet another one that has a bit of controversy over his date of birth. Some state that he was born in Jackson, Mississippi, in 1930, but the researchers Bob Eagle and Eric LeBlanc concluded, on the basis of census records and other official information, that he was born in 1924 in Belzoni, Mississipppi. Date of death however is not in doubt. He died of liver cancer in Chicago in 1970. He was somewhere between 40 & 46, depending on whose data you would consider to be correct. Otis was posthumously elected to the Blues Hall of Fame in 1980. On November 13, 2012, he, (along with cousin and fellow pianist Little Johnnie Jones) received a Mississippi Blues Trail Marker plaque, erected at 547 South Roach Street in Jackson, Mississippi where the family lived in the 1930s and 1940. This song comes from his album called Cryin' Time. It was recorded in Chicago & released in 1968. It was one of his very last albums. Adrian is another one of those artists that I have to piece together the info. Even her own personal website fails to provide her last name. But, others do! I have no idea when this was written, but it is at least something… Adrian “Buckaroogirl” Brannan is force to be reckoned with. In her mid 20s she has obtained the titles of a western singer/songwriter, author, fashion designer, model, saddle-bronc rider, entrepreneur, and artist. Growing up in a “gypsy family,” Adrian was exposed to the raw beauty of the Scottish highlands and the Nevada sagebrush, the harsh reality of life in a post-iron curtain Ukraine and the adventures of learning French in Switzerland before returning to life in America and falling in love with the west. “I lived in a 14 ft tipi through middle and high school” Adrian reflects, “I was a wild child with un-brushed hair and out of control riding bareback and wishing I had been born a mountain man from the fur trade era. My family not only tolerated, but encouraged my unruly behavior and cultivated my love of the wild places and freedom.” During her career she has released 5 solo albums with the most recent coming in 2019. This song comes from her 2nd album. It was called Highway 80 & came out in 2007. I would classify this as a bit of Texas Swing in the tradition of Asleep At The Wheel. It seems as though certain states lend themselves to certain types of music. New Jersey has a lot of these types of songs dedicated to it. Ray Anthony is a bandleader, trumpeter, songwriter, and actor, born in Bentleyville Pennsylvania & raised in Cleveland. He is the last surviving member of the Glenn Miller Orchestra, he just turned 100 in January. He played in Glenn Miller's band from 1940 to 1941 and appeared in the Glenn Miller movie Sun Valley Serenade before joining the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war he formed his own group. The Ray Anthony Orchestra became popular in the early 1950s with "The Bunny Hop", "Hokey Pokey", and the theme from Dragnet. He was at one time married to actress Mamie Van Dorn. I don’t know if this came from the late 40’s or early 50’s. Little Peach From East Orange by Ray Anthony and His Orchestra www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEurXc3oeq0

The Continental Drifters were a rock band, formed in Los Angeles in 1991 and dissolved in New Orleans, Louisiana about a decade later. Though the line-up changed several times, at one point the band comprised a kind of college rock/indie-rock/power pop supergroup, including Peter Holsapple of The dB's, Mark Walton of The Dream Syndicate, Vicki Peterson of The Bangles and Susan Cowsill of The Cowsills. Peter Holsapple married Susan Cowsill & they had a daughter together, they divorced in 2001. Vicki Peterson will marry John Cowsill & become Susan’s Sister In Law. Vicki & Susan were also in another band together called The Psycho Sisters. In 2014 they released their 1st duo album together called Up On The Chair, Beatrice. And then in 2017, the 2 women along with John Cowsill will join together with Billy Mumy as the band Action Skulls to release an album entitled "Angels Hear". Yes, that is the same Billy Mumy from the TV show Lost In Space. This song comes from a self titled album Continental Drifters, released in 2001. Today has been an Eva Cassidy day. I'm wiped out from all the crying I have done. I discovered Eva probably a good 20 years after she had passed from cancer in her early 30s. I heard her version of "Over the Rainbow' and said "Judy, who?" She just slays me each and every time, which is why I can't listen to her too often. Truly the voice of an angel here on Earth.
Just finished listening to "Songbird", a song written and sung by Fleetwood Mac's Christine McVie. The original is lovely, but Eva takes it to another level and makes it her own.
Any Eva fans here?

Harry Nilsson III was a singer-songwriter born in Brooklyn & raised in LA. He was blessed with a 3+1⁄2 octave range & was one of the few major pop-rock recording artists to achieve significant commercial success without ever performing major public concerts or undertaking regular tours. He also had some pretty powerful fans: During a 1968 press conference, the Beatles were asked what their favorite American group was and answered "Nilsson". Sometimes called "the American Beatle",he soon formed close friendships with John Lennon and Ringo Starr. In the 1970s, Nilsson, John & Ringo were members of the Hollywood Vampires drinking club, embroiling themselves in a number of widely publicized, alcohol-fueled incidents. Harry won the Grammy in 1970 for Best Contemporary Male Vocal Performance for Everybody’s Talkin. And the 1973 Grammy for Best Male Vocal Pop Performance for Without You. He was born with congenital heart problems & he died of heart failure on January 15, 1994, in his Agoura Hills, California, home at the age of 52. This song comes from an album called Nilsson Sings Newman. It was his 5th studio album & was released in 1970. All songs were written by Randy Newman who also plays piano & keyboards on the album. The cover art was drawn by Dean Torrence; of Jan & Dean fame. Dayton Ohio 1903 by Harry Nilsson www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NUxaOv2oVU

O.A.R. (short for Of A Revolution) is a rock band, founded in 1996 in Rockville, Maryland. The band consists of lead vocalist/guitarist Marc Roberge, drummer Chris Culos, guitarist Richard On, bassist Benj Gershman, saxophonist/guitarist Jerry DePizzo, and touring members, trumpet player Jon Lampley and keyboardist Mikel Paris. Some of those guys go back to middle school together. Through the years the band has supported numerous charity causes including this one which I highlight because I worked for SAIC in the 80’s. The band worked with SAIC, a US defense contractor, to raise money for the Paralyzed Veterans of America, a service organization focused on assisting veterans with spinal cord injuries and diseases, through digital downloads of the band's song "Light Switch Sky." Proceeds from downloads of the song through July 22, 2010 supported paralyzed veterans. The song was co-written by O.A.R. and their fans through a competition on Twitter. During their career they have released 8 studio albums, including their latest release, The Mighty, in March 2019. This song comes from an album called In Between Now and Then. It was their 4th studio album & it came out in 2003. The album landed at #54 on the billboard Top 200. Road Outside Columbus by O.A.R www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzkSPt64lRU

I have said it before, that all of these songs are on random lists & appear only when we move along to a new state. Today provides a bit of a serendipitous question & response type of thing. George Strait asks a question this morning & we get an answer this afternoon. George Strait is a country music singer, songwriter, actor, and music producer from Poteet, Texas. He is known as the "King of Country" and is considered one of the most influential and popular recording artists of all time. The list of awards he has won over the years is much to lengthy to address here. Suffice to say, he probably had to build onto his house just to store all the trophies. He has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time. His certifications from the RIAA include 13 multi-platinum, 33 platinum, and 38 gold albums. According to the RIAA, George is the 12th best-selling album recording artist in the United States overall selling over 69 million records across the United States. During his career he has released 30 studio albums, 3 live albums, and 11 compilation albums. This song comes from his album called Honkytonkville. It was his 22nd album & was released in 2003. The album has been certified as a Platinum seller. It produced the singles "Tell Me Something Bad About Tulsa", "Cowboys Like Us" and "Desperately", at #11, #2 and #6 respectively on the country charts. But it is still one of the very few albums of his to not have a #1 hit single attached. Tell Me Something Bad About Tulsa by George Strait www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZff6ldq3C0

In January 2014, Shawn won a Grammy Award for his production of Guy Clark's album My Favorite Picture of You. This song comes from his 4th album. It was called Fireball & came out in 2006. The Cowboy Junkies are an alternative country and folk rock band formed in Toronto, Canada in 1985 by Alan Anton (bassist), Michael Timmins (songwriter, guitarist), Peter Timmins (drummer) and Margo Timmins (vocalist). During their career they have released 16 studio albums and 5 live albums. This song comes from their Black Eyed Man album. It is their 4th studio album & was released in 1992. The band experimented with each track. Several musicians from previous albums showed up during the rehearsal sessions, along with about 25 other Toronto players that were known to the band, or recruited because of their skills with instruments the band wanted to consider including in the album. Many of the songs were minimally rehearsed if at all, in an attempt to capture the freshness and spontaneity. Since the band was intent on using other musicians on these songs, here are the folks that played on this particular song. Jeff Bird – harmonica, Jaro Czerwinec – accordion, Bob Doidge - acoustic guitar, David Houghton – percussion, Ken Myhr - lead guitar, & Don Rook - lap steel. The album landed at #76 here in the US & has been certified as a Gold Record. Oregon Hill by The Cowboy Junkies www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtHtEEXcXJ4

Al Stewart is a Scottish singer-songwriter and folk-rock musician born in Glasgow, & raised in the town of Wimborne, Dorset, England. He never knew his father, who as a flight lieutenant in the Royal Air Force volunteer reserve died in a plane crash during a 1945 training exercise before Al was born. During his career he has released 16 studio and 3 live albums. He is probably best remembered here in the states for The Year Of The Cat. I have to admit, I bought the Year Of The Cat album & absolutely hated it. I put it away for good,& then I decided to hear it again about a year ago & was flummoxed as to how wrong I was. I really enjoyed it the 2nd time around. This song comes from his album A Beach Full Of Shells. It was his 15th studio album & was released in 2005. Like most of his work, much of the content alludes to people or moments in history. "Katherine of Oregon": is a play on Catherine of Aragon, whose marriage to King Henry VIII of England was annulled in 1533. The chorus' tune is adapted from the work of Beethoven. The Scottish musician & influential skittle artist Lonnie Donegan is also mentioned. Katherine Of Oregon by Al Stewart www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTcRnyjuqUs
