It certanly felt like Debra was not properly briefed as to what kind of show WWHL is. Debra seems like the kind of actress who doesn't really enjoy the publicity part of the job. I wonder if the show publicist, knowing that, thought that perhaps booking this show would be a little easier for her ... and then found out how wrong that was!
The disappointing thing to me was that I think Amanda Peet is normally such a fun talk show guest, but she seemed off her game like she was caught in the middle between knowing the show Andy was trying to put on and trying to be on the same team as Debra.

It's you and your teams responsibility to know what kind of show you are going to promote on. Your both using each other in a sense so the least both actresses could have done was play along for 20 darn minutes. They came off entitled as if Andy Cohen's little show was beneath them. I agree Amanda Peet usually seems like a fun gal on other talk shows, but this definitely left a sour taste in my mouth. The looks the camera was catching, the whispers, the laughs, making fun of the ppl on the calls... Andy couldn't catch a break.

That interview was painful to watch. I had to turn it off. It was a mess. I had never heard of Debra Winger until this show. After this, I have no reason to follow her career.

I would theorize that since both of them were promoting shows on Amazon that the appearance was probably booked by a PR person for Amazon. Debra probably fights promotion as much as she can, and was contractually bound to do a given number of shows. The Amazon PR person was likely hoping that with Amanda on there too, they could get her to play along. it didn't work. Debra will probably go on the list with Amber Rose of people who will never be booked again. Amanda has been good on the show before, so she'll likely get to come back.
I give Andy and the producers of the show a lot of credit. They were smart enough to know not to try to get them to play any silly games or try to get them to talk about Bravo shows. They did everything they could to make it work.
Moving on to the next episode - I was a little surprised given the number of times he's been on the show before, and that he's done Plead the Fifth before, that Seth Meyers didn't seem to understand the rules of the game last night. Part of me thought he was just trying to work the system, but I was a little annoyed by the way he was saying he'd plea the fifth but may come back to questions.

Totally, totally agree, acookertv, on both counts. I think Debra would've done much better on a 'serious' talk show, more like the old Charlie Rose type of interview. And Amanda Peet, who is such a delight, try as she might, she just couldn't make up for Debra downer. (PS DAMN Charlie Rose for being a letcher!!! I really miss his talk show soooo much!!!) |

Andy has had a few guests who either didn't know what show they were on or who maybe lost a bet? Besides Debra Winger, Scott Baio comes to mind. His wife sent out a torrent of homophobic tweets after his uncomfortable appearance. Jerry Seinfeld....he and Andy are friends but he did his friend no favors....that was painful.

The appearances like that make me respect a person like Oprah even more going on the show. She's another one who I think it's safe to say is not a frequent WWHL or Bravo viewer. But she was well briefed on what the show is about, and played along in a way that worked for the show but didn't shed her dignity.

My recollection of the last time that he did Plead the Fifth was that he did the same thing. I think that when Andy would ask him a question like "Of the cast you were a part of, who was the heaviest drinker at the after parties" he'd answer himself - so he was safely saying he was answering the question, without throwing anyone under the bus. I do like him too, and I like him as a WWHL guest. I like the way he carefully walks the line of being open in admitting he's not a Bravo viewer, but respecting the Bravo audience and not trying to pretend he's above watching such reality shows. I don't like it when a non viewer celeb tries to pretend they are a fan, but then can't answer any questions specifically. I also don't like it when a celeb talks like he or she is above watching reality shows and sees it as trash. Each time someone does that, I'm left thinking "you are insulting what i love to watch, but then you want me to support your project?" |

I know it would be the odd pairing of the decade but nothing would make me happier than if Lenny Kravitz and Gail King became a couple after doing the show last night. They had a chemistry that was so fun to watch!

'friendly' to her --- but not in that way. |

Gail is quite flirtatious with any man they pair her with on the show usually. I think that she wisely sees appearances on WWHL as a way to show she's fun, and not just a news woman who is Oprah's best friend. But I liked the way they were both playing off each other for that episode.

I'm very happy for Andy! He's in for a big lifestyle change, but it sounds like he's ready for it! I do hope for the kid's sake that he doesn't share every aspect on WWHL. I always feel bad for the children of celebrities who have to live life in the public eye through no choice of their own. I think Andy will need to work to find a balance between sharing his life as a father without sharing the kid's life ... but if he's smart I think he can do it.

I would LOVE to see a mini-reality show starring ANDY, showing the last few weeks before his baby's delivery, and the first week or so after he brings the baby home. That would be sooooo much fun to watch!!! I wonder if he'd ever do that. . .

I really know nothing about him, but Kelly on LIVE was talking about how thrilled she was for him as he is just such a decent, nice man to whom her own kids go for advice. He is very close to his own family and everybody loves him in his personal life. I am glad for him since having a child seems to mean the world to him.
