That's really sad news. He was so young (41). He didn't appear to be living a healthy lifestyle which may have contributed to his demise (overweight). Condolences to Paige and the boys.

A gofundme was set up less than 24 hours after Bernie's death, asking for help for funeral expenses and rent. Their goal is $10,000; so far, they have $315. Looks like a lot of people are willing to give condolences, but not many are willing to give money. A 41-year-old man with a job and two kids at home (not to mention the money they were paid for the show) has no business looking for a second wife when he can't even afford to bury himself.

I do not understand these Go Fund Me accounts being set up hours after a hardship is experienced, albeit by well-meaning people. Many times, the recipient of the intended funds is not destitute but middle-class or above. When there are children involved, the remaining spouse will receive Social Security benefits until the children are adults. Many employers provide life insurance policies for their employees. In cases of death by accident, car insurance, life insurance, workers' comp, or personal lawsuits may provide relief.
(Life is so fragile and can be taken in a split second. When people say, "We don't need a marriage certificate," they will discover just how important it is for benefits when the other passes away.)
Of course, there are legitimate needs for Go Fund Me donations in many cases. It's only the ones where funds are requested for people that have resources to draw upon that seem inappropriate.

Whenever there is a news report about the unexpected death of someone, I pretty much expect the report (made on the day of the death) to include information about a gofundme or a bank account being set up. When I worked as an Administrative Assistant to a group of 20 engineers, I had a sign on my cubicle wall (for all to see): "Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part." That's how I feel about people who don't plan for emergencies in their lives. Too many of them to have designer purses, ATVs, boats, or money enough to date a potential second wife . . . but not enough money for burial expenses or next month's rent.

That's why my husband and I carry expensive life insurance. It isn't someone else's responsibility to bury us. Most of these people on these shows squander the money they make to live like rich people.

I think that they've tried a few times now. It hasn't worked. They have a beautiful family and should continue to focus on that. I don't have anything against plural marriage. It works for some families. Not this one.
