Penneys from Heaven - Vanessa Williams and Jasmine Tookes guest judge as the designers turn daytime separates into sensational nighttime looks.
Enjoy the show!

It was pretty evident that that PR is at a new low. The poor designers had to make an evening look out of daytime separates from JC Penney. I can only imagine how awkward this was for the designers. They could not complain about the bad quality of the fabrics, the ugly styles, or the poor fit as they shopped for separates, because JC Penney is their sponsor.
The evening looks were lipstick on a pig. No one could elevate those JC Penney rags.
Like the previous episode, the judges picked the winning look thinking they could replicate it for the consumer market. It was an oversized t-shirt made of shiny, wrinkly, tacky fabric.

Speaking of JCP...at what point in the filming of the show did they back out? In this episode they looked to be all in, yet the promised designs are not on JCP.com.
Blech on all of them. The shiny number came closer to evening than others - most of the others. I don't think the designers are all that bad, but the challenges are horrific. One DAY for Avant Garde - really?

This show was filmed in 2017 apparently and the JC Penney collobaration with Project Runway ended in 2018. I don’t know why they didn’t just edit out the bits about the looks being for sale at JC Penney.
Continuing on the trend of getting rid of all of the international designers, Cynthia is outed. I am not surprised- her looks have been pretty commercial and she has never gotten huge praise - but I don’t think her outfit was any worse than Shawn’s. I do wonder if there is any chance for one of the two remaining international designers to win (yes I know Dmitry and Shawn are from foreign lands, but they won American editions of the show, so I don’t count them as international designers in this context).

I dont think a non US version contestant will win. The judges preferences make that clear to me...

^^^ I don't know, the judges have been pretty happy with Biddell this season, so I see him as a contender for the win.
You know, Dmitry and Michelle are always talking about how they're friends and how much they love and respect each other, but they do nothing but talk crap about each other's designs. They seem more like frenemies to me.

It's obvious that Lifetime is done with Project Runway. (I'm so looking forward to Project Runway's return to Bravo!)

I was very put out by JCPenney getting all that free publicity by having a show feature them, only to screw over the contestants with winning looks by refusing to make the clothes available to people. I really liked JCP in the past but this is really putting a bad taste in my mouth.
There are some nice things at JCP. However, instead of having the contestants go thru the store to find them they selected 2 of the 3 looks they had to use themselves, and they were some of the cheapest, gaudiest things around. Looking at the contestants I could tell that they hated everything about this challenge, and it showed in their looks. It was an awful challenge and IMO no one should have went home.
The day they send Biddell home is when I'll stop watching. I dislike AR more and more with each passing week, Sean keeps making things with fringe, Dimitry is in his own little world, Irina and Michelle are both hit or miss, and Julie is next on the chopping block.

I doubt JCP got free publicity out of this. For one thing, they sponsored the accessories wall, so at the very least contributed in that way. I would guess that they had to pay for the privilege of being a named sponsor. I think they sponsored the accessory wall even before they started making garments from the winning look. Making garments to sell was probably their way of making money off the publicity they had garnered.
That being said, it does seem odd that they wouldn't want to capitalize by making the garments. I wonder, if when their contract ended, JCP no longer had use of the name of the show in promoting the garments. It's probably tied up in Project Runway being sold off because of Harvey's scandal.
Eta: Maybe JCP just wanted to distance themselves from anything to do with HW. I can't say I'd blame them.
No matter why it happened, it stinks for the designers.

I always thought it was a "tit for tat" deal where JCP offered to sponsor the accessories wall, etc in return for airtime and publicity on the show. One hand washes the other, and all that.
Apparently Bravo has a good curated mix of designer/low brow for the accessory wall for the new show, which should cut down on...whatever this mess JC Penney/Project Runway Lifetime has.
