A half hour in and we’ve only passed two through? More auditions, fewer judges’ antics, please.

I haven't watched this show in years. This is the first time I am seeing this new version. So far I like the judges. I like Luke and Lionel the most, but Katy isn't as bad as I thought she would be, at least so far.

The key to airtime is flirting with or complimenting the judges, apparently!

There were times last season that she did get a little … wacky, where I found her just a bit too much. But in general, I like the team of judges.

Have to say after watching many of the ones that made it through were really good, but three stood out to me. I am horrible with names, but the male artist that was rather tall was fantastic. The last musician of the night with the story about his two brothers committing suicide had such a heart wrenching story it left me in tears and his voice was very good. I hope he goes a long way. The best of them though in my opinion was the Vietnamese girl who's voice when she started to sing I was like where is that voice coming from. She was amazing.

I tried watching, I have always liked Lionel, I just don't care for, Katy watch me Perry, as a judge. The little girl from Vietnam has a great voice, that's where I stopped. The girl who acted like she'd had 18 cups of coffee, was way OTT..

I liked all the ones they showed except hyper girl. I did feel bad for Luke when the boy who lost two brothers was a little too close to home. He was trying to toughit out, but you could just see he was hurting.

Not too many high school students---there were just too many put through and made it through the eliminations last year. Hope they stay with the more mature singers. The hyper girl was 25----but either was emotionally immature or was doing an imitation of Katy at her craziest to get air time.

There were some really good ones last night. It's goog to be a very competitive season. And I'll just be the one that says, I like Katy Perry as a judge. She brings something different & light hearted.

They threw in a good mix on the first night. Now we wait for them to settle down with the second show on Wednesday.
Oh, I did like that they showed all the different audition venues in the same episode rather than one or two at a time. That way editing can pick and choose from more of a variety of singers to showcase.

What I think I noticed was that we only saw 1 maybe 2 from a city get through, and then we were off to another city. At the same time, we only saw one or two actual performances that did NOT make it through. What I am thinking this might be telling me is that the ones we saw in the first episode are going to make many cuts, and some of them are even going to make the final cut. In other words in the edited version shown to us, there is very little messing around. We are seeing who American Idol sees as THEIR serious contenders. At least that is my theory.
As for Margie May? - the hoppy singer? My thought was that she might be ADHD - a genuine condition associated with children; however, the consensus is that adults that were hyper and had trouble concentrating as children have the same problems as adults - but they have learned to deal with it. She was tremendously excited. If she is ADHD, she could have had troubles with her techniques. The "hyper" portion would make her look like she had too much coffee.

It has been a thorn in my side during past seasons where some of these kids show up in the finals & we have never seen them before, while others have been shown time & time again & have already had the opportunity to build a fan base. I suspect they are evening that out & I believe we began to see it last year.

I agree that they have been very uneven in giving out air time. I am hoping that this show signals a change.
