OK, it looked as if they were able to start a fire without the flint and I saw a chicken in Chris's hand so even after the "loosing the flint" and "chicken debate" did they kill the rooster?

I still am on Wendy's side about the chickens. If there were wild chickens on the island and they caught one I would feel different, I think vs going after a caged one.
"Free the Chickens"
Partly this is Survivor and I want them to suffer as if they really were stranded on a desert island not getting fed coffee and hamburgers every 3 days.

It's a gameshow where many of them will be severely challenged by a lack of food, compared to what they have been used to. And they all know the value of a full belly when it comes to challenges. If they were not swapping tribes, she would have put her own team at a disadvantage. I wouldn't forgive that, and would write her name down at the very next TC! I wonder if any of them anticipated a swap was coming? They do the 3-tribe swap nearly every season now, and that can only be done when they have a number divisible by 3. And if you know you're swapping, then the vote should be purely strategic, you're probably about to be separated from th e camp life liability.

They had to win a challenge to get those chickens, though, so they did earn them. They weren't just a handout.

We should take a poll on this issue.

I'm going to start a GoFundMe account for those chickens.

I realize some people don't understand why this is an issue for many people, myself included. I have yet to read a post that gives a justifiable reason for killing these chickens. Or why TPTB even bring live animals. All of the contestants protein issues could easily be taken care of with a large basket filled with non perishable items that are protein packed. Protein bars are filling. Then you have Quorn which when cooked tastes like hamburger. They could be given Military ration meals-protein packed specifically because soldiers need that.Nuts, nut butter and so forth. Powdered egg, powdered milk, powdered protein. These items would provide more nutrition and protein for the winning tribe than a bunch of chickens that have to be shared. I rarely eat meat-I avoid it. I'm certainly not perfect nor do I push my beliefs on other people.
But, in this case, those chickens are being used by production to create unnecessary drama and divisiveness. I find that to be cold and heartless. Because these poor animals are killed for entertainment purposes, not because anyone has to eat them in order to live. Needlessly killing any animal is a line some people will not cross and will protest against. I feel it in my soul. Life is precious. All life. Even the life of a 'lowly' chicken. If you don't have to kill then don't kill. Just my opinion.

Yeah as life is precious. But sadly there are some people that want to save animals more than human beings. There sadly are people like that.
But yeah it is in the protein thing. As it helps you out.

If you recall, the tribe had a choice between comfort items and the chickens. I wonder whether the tribes ever discuss these possibilities ahead of time. Since chickens have almost always been an issue whether there was consideration given, even immediately after the challenge, whether they would be better off with comfort items that would perhaps help them sleep better. They always seem to choose the chickens which means they each personally had a reason to do so. Too bad they couldn't be more unified about it.
Many of the rewards are intended as a form of curse. Like the individual challenges when they have to choose people to bring along and others to leave behind.

I wonder why they don't take the comfort items. Wouldn't that improve their basic living conditions? Including sleep. And wouldn't improved living conditions be more important in the end? I tgink sleep, good sleep is more important than limited protein. I really liked your post, Brooks.

Thanks redsoxgirl. One of my favorite rewards is when the winning tribe gets the services of someone local to show them what they can eat. I have recently learned to shuck and eat raw oysters, and enjoy them! So I have imagined myself as making some headway in the dreaded grub-eating contest. Although I would prefer not to stick anything in my mouth that is moving too vigorously that also has teeth! There has to be more foraging they can do. They look pretty bored between challenges.
