So many ugly dresses this time, and on royal ballgown week!! I couldn't believe it. I expected lots and lots of silken beauty! But, nope!
Irina was a bit too full of herself for much of the episode, but I loved her dress and am glad she won. I thought the red dress was pretty too, and you could tell it took a lot of work to make, so I'm glad Biddell stayed.
AR deserved to go for his caftan with feathers on it. gross.

I'm glad Irina's dress won, but it was a case of "the best of the bad". I mean, honestly. Let's translate this to TRW. If, say, Kate or Megan wore one of these dresses to a British Royal function, Her Majesty would ban them to the dungeon. And in AR's case, maybe put him in the Tower.

Those were all pretty horrible for a royal ball gown. I agree that Irena's was the best of the bad. The top of her dress was quite lovely and I could see how it improved from the comments that the judges were taking about.
I'm a little over them complaining about how the challenges aren't what they do. It's really not a huge surprise they'd be asked to make a ball gown, the royal part would maybe be the only surprising thing. Why don't they think of those kind of designs a bit before they get there, with ideas of how to tweak them according to the challenge. So what if it's Irena's strength. There were other challenges that didn't suit her as well. I don't even particularly like Irena but they almost sounded like they were really saying it wasn't a fair challenge.

Thank you! Wasn't it Bidell who was saying this exact thing in the show? I agree with both of you. Come on, you've been on this show before and yet you're complaining about a formal wear challenge? They always have a challenge where you have to design for the red carpet, which isn't terribly different. Most people think Oscars or Emmys when they think "red carpet" and that's formal wear. It would be no different if, say, Irina complained about having a challenge about ready-to-wear or street wear.

I have given up on this show----thank heaven Bravo is back. The winners and losers make no sense.....and AM just cannot wear clothes gracefully. I don't expect everybody to be Heidi....but A looks good in nothing that they select for her.

Sheesh, I could have done a better ball gown and I don't sew! I kept thinking of all the gorgeous colors, patterns, etc they could have used! Nina's dress in the beginning was gorgeous! It was satin with big red and pink roses. I was hoping the designers would take inspirations from that.

Usually this show gives me such joy, but there is something so sad and lethargic to this season. Maybe it's the JC Penny partnership/non-partnership, AM as a odd choice of host....I just don't know.
And the thought of ball gowns would have me spinning with fun ideas....volume! Glam!

AM has been the host for every season of All Stars, and it didn't seem to affect designers in the past. When this season began filming, had the news leaked already about the Bravo return? Because I hear you. Something's really off with this show. It feels like the designers are just going through the motions and don't really care about being there. It's weird.

I think it's a combination of picking designers who have either done too many returns, or designers who we could predict would be hard or irritating to watch (Irina, Anya). I feel bad for the international designers, because it must have seemed like such a thrill to be asked to compete, and then to get there and deal with these spoiled designers who feel either entitled, over it, or both.
They probably didn't know about the move to Bravo at the time of filming, but they definitely knew about Harvey Weinstein's legal problems at that point, and that the future of the show was in question.

And the thought of ball gowns would have me spinning with fun ideas....volume! Glam! I was soooo hyped when they said royal ballgowns! What a letdown... What do they mean that they didn't know how to design for such events??? Hello! They go hog wild over red carpet looks but this is alien to them?? I don't get it... Is it just me or has the sponsorship/partnerships gone downhill? No offense but, JCP never struck me as "high fashion". It feels like to me that if the show stayed on Lifetime, the next sponsor would have been Kmart and Wet n Wild. Why not bring on Nordstrom or Saks or Neiman Marcus? When I watch these kind of shows I want to see some high degree glam & glitz represented.

Exactly, it feels false to me that they have to say 'I found these perfect shoes at the JCP wall'. I mean, JCP is not fashionable, and is a weird partner. I think it's akin to Kmart, which I've actually been to. If you want a Christmas sweater, sure.
Right? Oh! To design a ball gown, I mean, to me that would be so much fun. Look at all the classic fashion the Royals wear. Don't tell me that of all of those designers they never saw 'the crown'!

When I was growing up, my family lived at Sears, JCP, and KMart. Anybody remember "blue light specials"? Anyway, we were solidly middle class. So yeah, when they said JCP here at PR, I was like, "Huh? That is not high fashion."
And that's a great point about the foreign designers. I mean, you travel all this way just to hear the Americans whine like little children. "I can't do this. It's too harrrd." Geesh, no wonder Bidell was irritated.

YES! And it actually had a Blue Light! And the Icee Slushes that they would have near the register! It was neato!! I wish there was more emphasis on the international designers. I never heard of them before. I didn't know their signature style or anything. And maybe the judges should've been a mixture of the judges from the international shows? Get their viewpoint. Alyssa could still host (I think she's an adorable host!)

So many questions.
In what world were any of these offerings ballgowns?
Why is Michelle making the same dress in different colors for every challenge, and not getting called out for it?
Why does Fake!Native American not get called out for his excessive use of blue and yellow? Is this Ikea? Even the feathers on his caftan were a grayish blue. So glad he finally went home.
When will Dimitry quit phoning it in? Beginning to think those rumors of him not wanting to return for this show are true.
I completely agree with Biddell and Irina's frustration with the other designers. This is All Stars. At this point, everyone should have some expectations of this show, and it's not out of the norm for them to have an evening gown challenge. So wouldn't you have a general idea of a design for that?
Loved Biddell and Irina's offerings and will continue to watch until they get kicked off.

I think most of them did not want to do a big poofy gown---they kept saying that they were doing a modern take on a ball gown

I think nobody did a ball gown. It should have been different. But they do seem to just be phoning it in. Irina is so irritating I cant be happy she won, but yeah, she had the closest thing to a ball gown. It even felt like the judges were trying to convince themselves that some of that shite was good. I like Michelle, or I used to, but I felt like if she went home for this, it would be well-deserved. Biddell's dress was ugly, but hard work to make. It still wasn't a ball gown, though.
I'd rather watch this than the new version of PR. Bravo or Lifetime, doesn't matter much to me.
