First Impressions - Sixteen designers arrive in New York City; the designers showcase their best looks, then, they meet their mentor, Christian Siriano; the designers must create a look inspired by some of the the biggest names in fashion but with a twist.
Reminder: Project Runway is finally free of Lifetime, and back on Bravo where it began.
Enjoy the show!

Could Cavanaugh be ANYmore of a snob?? I guess she could... to the end...
I swear, if Frankie keeps crying, and ESPECIALLY getting help from other contestants, I'm going to have to smack her upside her head! And I'm appalled at what she put down the runway considering she specializes in curvy models.
I think Renee should have won. The outfit was impeccable and it was a full on professional suit! Impressive to the max!
The trans model (don't know her name) was at the same time regal and adorable! Regal down the runway and adorable in the workroom!

What annoyed me was that we never really got a good look at most of the outfits. When the models came down the runway they only showed a second or 2 of each model. I know they never show them for very long but, tonight, it seemed we barely got a glimpse. I hope Frankie does better next week. She seems like such a nice gal who was, at the time of filming, an emotional wreck. I miss Heidi and Tim but the new crew seems to be doing a pretty good job.

I can't believe Ms. Entitlement went home first. I think the ruching on Frankie's body suit showed more imagination than the attempt at a black dress. With the tweed jacket, she might have been safe, but I'm glad she's gone. I liked the sleek line on the tall model of the winning look. I don't think it could work on any of the fuller models. Oh, I'm so glad the models are getting recognition again this year. I like seeing their names as they walk. The judges felt a little flat as did Klos and Siriano. I do like that they kept the closer look they added a few years ago. That beautiful workroom looked like the Big Brother house after the first day - completely messy.

She had a lot of nerve criticizing Frankie for getting help from the other designers (who didn't seem to mind helping her out at all) when she handed her model a needle! Oh, and what was that bs about using only "professional" photos on her sm? Please! I know tons of people (myself included) who photograph their work with an iPhone and it looks great. Maybe she needs to learn how to use her cellphone camera properly.
Normally, I feel bad for the first eliminated person. Not this time! She can kick rocks.
I'm okay with Frankie staying, as long as she doesn't have a weepy meltdown in every episode.
I thought the asymmetrical hem of Lela's top looked an awful lot like Rakan's fabulous white jacket in that little intro runway show at the beginning of the episode. I'm surprised no one mentioned it.
The trans model's name is Mimi and I agree - she's adorable! That dress looked incredible on her.
I liked Renee's and Tessa's and would have been happy with either as the winner.
I can't predict who's going to win, but just based on that opening runway, I'm eager to see what else Rakan can do. That white jacket was stunning. The judges seemed impressed as well.

I wonder how much deep editing went into making Cavanaugh the ugly step sister and Frankie Snow White. Frankie could not sew and needed much help to get that blue thing on the runway. It fell apart when she touched it while C's dress was simple but it was a viable outfit.
Totally surprising choice to go home and I hope that Frankie does not continue this melt down....saw enough of the poor me... now design and sew .

Either one of them deserved to go home, but I don't think Cavanaugh needed much help with her edit, based on the things she said and what others were saying about her. I'm liking the new era -- hopefully they won't ruin it by going twist-crazy, and settle in for a nice long run.

Haven’t we seen the apron look not to long ago . All I thought was the straps are back.
I would have been happy if either went home to.
Funny how here in Canada we have All Stars one still going the same time as this one.
Will it always be 1 1/2 hours , it goes late here to 11:30 needed to get to bed...lol

It was fun to watch. I LOVED Rene's outfit, I would have bought her suit. It was so elegant. I wish it had won. The winning outfit was adorable and well made. However, only a select few could wear the winning outfit. The woman who was sent home used a fabric that sucked all the life out of the room. I don't mind black, but that was a black hole black. If she had used some creativity with zippers, buttons, anything, it would have been better. I still miss Tim. Christian did an OK job with his evaluations. I was hoping he would recommend removing the big bird feathers from the sides of one of the skirts.

This was more emotional of an episode than I expected. I thought the show would keep Cavanaugh around to be the villain. Tessa seems like she has it in her to fill that role. I LOVE the diversity of the models. The old Project Runway kept getting thinner and thinner models. They were all interchangeable. I like seeing the designers have to design for the variety of real customers. Christian Siriano does a good job of designing for all shapes and sizes. I think he will be a good mentor, but I do miss Tim and "make it work." It was weird not hearing "One of you will be out." I will get used to not hearing it though.
ETA: I loved Renee's outfit the most.

Don't get me wrong here. If you've spent any time on the PR forums, you know I hate bullies. (Here's looking at you, Jeffrey and Gretchen! ) So I am not defending Cavanaugh's attitude at all. But she really was the better designer, and she did have some good points. Yes, she asked her model to sew. That was irritating. But come on. Frankie didn't know how to use the sewing machine to do what she wanted. And then just before the show, she had six other designers helping her finish the look? That's inexcusable. Cavanaugh's dress was at least well sewn.
And yes, enough of the tears. I'm sorry you had a rough time. But again, so have plenty of other designers. Over on All Stars Anthony Ryan was bawling because his grandmother passed away just before filming. And yet he pulled it together and even won a couple of challenges before he was eliminated.
Mixed feelings about the rest of the show. The judges were fine, but I miss the camaraderie between Heidi/Nina/Michael Kors/Isaac Mizrahi. You got the feeling that after the show they were all heading out to a bar together. Here it seems like just a job, at least for now. I loved the judges' pictures, though, especially Nina's and Brandon's. It was cool hearing their stories. I would have chosen Renee's outfit, but that's strictly me. I love that vintage glamor look.
Loved seeing Mood. Now if they'll only show Swatch (the dog).
Thought it was cute hearing Christian emphasize that the designers had two days for the challenge. In the very first episode ever of this show, the designers freaked out when Tim told them they had two days. Only two days to make a dress? Nooooooo!

Yep, Frankie has to really get over herself. If I recall, there were a one or two other past designers who had their model help with some real quick stitching. I don't think that's a big thing. BUT to have every designer to help you with a quarter to a half of the outfit is so wrong on so many levels! I'm appalled that she or no one mentioned the help to the judges. Oh, no, I take that back. I'm appalled that Kavanaugh didn't mention it! "Everyone helped sew her whole outfit. Everything I did was my own creation." It pays to speak up!

Yeah, I kept waiting for Cavanaugh to point out that at least she sewed 99% of her own dress. I was surprised that she didn't. I wasn't necessarily surprised that nobody else did. The designers are still getting to know these judges, so they didn't know how the judges would react. If I were in the bottom, though, I sure would have gone down fighting.
Well, at least one thing is still the same--saving a designer who really doesn't deserve to be there just because the judges felt sorry for them. Remember how we used to criticize Tim for doing this with his "save"?

I feel bad wanting Frankie to stop crying, but it's just uncomfortable to watch. I cried a little with the transgender model, but those were good tears. Watching Frankie cry was just awkward. The others designers like her. I wonder if they will keep offering to help her.

I noticed that too, it looked like a...less well executed version of it, and I'm surprised that the judges didn't mention it.
I loved everything about this new revamp! I know people online were complaining about Christian and Karlie being stiff but I thought they did fine. I imagine with more time they will be even better.
I liked quite a few of the outfits on the runway, with Renee, Sebastian, and Tessa being the standouts. When Renee's model got to the end of the runway and removed part of the skirt to wear as a shawl I almost fell out! Her dress, unlike Tessa's would also look good on a veriety of shapes. Tessa's look was good, but you would really have to be tall and thin to wear it. Sebastian's sportwear look was sublime and I loved looking at it.
Every once in a while you get someone on this show who is just having a blast and just taking in the whole experience, and that person is Kovid this time. What a sweet cinnamon roll of a man. I really enjoyed his interactions with Mimi and hope they both stick around.
Yes, Frankie. I know she's been through a lot in a short amount of time, but girl, you gotta work through it. I give her a pass for two reasons:
1. She restarted her look with two hours until runway to go because her model was a lot taller than what was listed on the card (which is why she had people helping her).
2. She asked Afa would he show her how to put the seamless zipper in, not to do it himself. He offered to put it in himself (In a very telling confessional he said "Well, I don't want to be like a [redacted] but I don't mind helping Frankie because she's nice to everyone. Kavanaugh...*short pause* does her own thing." Which basically said everything I ever needed to know about those two).
It's true that Kavanaugh at least mostly sewed her outfit. But the judges look for more than just someone who is a good seamstress; they also look at "can this person conceptualize an idea? Are they capable of doing something interesting that perhaps we haven't seen before? What will this person show us, going forward?" Kavanaugh went home because, quite simply, she bored Nina and Brandon. However sloppily it was constructed, there was still a concept and something interesting in Frankie's look that was non-existent in Kavanaugh's because she gave us something that can be bought at any Chico's or JC Penneys. The slit in the middle gaped open unattractively and the most interesting thing about it was the belt she got off the accessory wall. She had two days to design an outfit and she gave us a crop top and a-line skirt with a slit. Nina even asked her model to turn around, hoping for some sort of interesting detail. Alas, there was none. And for $250, it looked cheap as hell.
I couldn't help but notice the difference between the response of the others when Frankie came in to say she was safe (everyone grabbing her into a group hug, people crying, etc) and the way they responded to Kavanaugh when she came in to tell them she got the gate, so I can't help but think she's not one of the nicest people. And judging by her leaving statements I would be right (speaking of not nice people I noticed that the person who told Kavanaugh during the runway "Don't worry; THAT's the look that's going home tonight" regarding Frankie's look was one of the first people to hug Frankie when she came back into the room after she was safe. If I were her, I'd look out for that snake). I like Tessa but there's something about her that is also quietly shady so I'm watching out for her as well. Overall, a good start to the season.
On the Instagram Project Runway page they are having a vote every Thursday night after the show for the fan favorite outfit. The outfit that gets fan favorite will also be made available to buy on Bravo.

This season looks like it's going to be a good one. I like when they have models with different body types. My favorite designs from their first runway were Renee's and Tessa's. I didn't dislike Cavanagh's look and I felt it was more aesthetically pleasing than Frankie's garment, so I'm guessing they cut Cavanagh because of her snobbish "I want to sleep in a REAL bed with REAL pillows" attitude. My favorite designs from the designers 'first look' collection that they each brought to the show were Venny's brown and white pin stripe dress, Rakan's geometric white coat, Sonia's hard to describe almost medieval-type dress and Nadine's white (I want to say 'floral' but they took the camera off too fast) pantsuit. My too-soon-to-tell wild guess at who are the ones to watch, I would have to predict Renee, Rakan and Jamall are all going to do very well. I don't understand Hester's reason for being there. She's inventive, that's for sure, but it feels to me like her aesthetic is more suited for children's wear. I miss Tim as host, but at least the show is back on Bravo.

Yes, she is too gimicky. Oh heavens, that hyperfeminine little girl look hurts my eyes. They had a male designer just like her a while back ago on PR. On "Road to the Runway" only one judge liked him. Sadly, he convinced the others to give this designer a try. I think he only last a couple of episodes because the judges on the show thought he was too "out there" even for them.

I'm already irritated. Frankie's butt should have gone home. That "garment" was absolutely ridiculous and hideous. When one judge mentioned "taste" issues, I thought it was pretty appropriate. The girl who went home may be snobby or unlikable, but she isn't as clueless a designer and shouldn't have gone home based on those garments we saw.
I'm already over the girl with the babyish style, she reminds me of that guy on an earlier season who went home first thing. He was called "la-la" or something, cant remember. He acted and spoke like a baby, and his designs were babyish and silly looking. Yeah, she reminds me of him...a lot. It's not even worth her staying so I can see what she wears each week, because it'll all be atrocious.
And another thing, lol. I'm already annoyed by the designer who kept saying "omg" over the TG model. Grow up! Acted like he was meeting with Jesus for the first time.
Renee should have won. Annoyed that she didn't. I miss Tim Gunn. I even miss Heidi! I didn't know they weren't coming back! I don't like the new runway or how it's set up. It's too bright in there, isn't it supposed to be somewhat darker for a stage setup for a fashion show? As for that initial showing of designs, you couldn't tell much about them because of the damn camera angles, etc. Where is Zach Poulson, or Michael Kors? Who are all these new people?
I feel as if the show is now some kind of a millennial version, run by millennials, and its a totally different bird.
Maybe I'll adjust.
I was actually almost happy to see Nina! Only she isn't seeming as mean as she used to be.

I miss Tim but I didnt dislike Christian. I'm sure he'll settle more into his role as the season progresses.
Par for the course, I don't know their names yet...I liked the second place look a lot better.
The snotty chick who went home- how privileged did she grow up? I'm pretty sure those were double beds and not twin size. They looked wider to me than twin. Even though I thought the other lady should have gone home before her, I didnt hate that they sent her packing. Her garment was better made but she bored Nina, which is a big no-no.
I think I like the new male judge.
Wow, I wish I could remember names!

That one! Thank you. Oh my gosh, I was so happy they eliminated him early. I wish Hester would follow his example and go next. (Haven't seen last night's episode. Watching it right now.)
I don't mind the new cast. If you go back and watch the first season of PR, Tim acted stiff. He later said in interviews that he was afraid the audience wouldn't like him since he was older.
I miss MK or Isaac mainly because of the snark. I tend to be outspoken myself, so they always cracked me up with their observations.

Christian has been in the mentor role before - at a junior competition out of LA a few years ago. So, mentoring isn't new to him.
