I'm a bit behind on tonight's show! While the nurse (Jacob) seems like a perfectly nice guy, I didn't understand the rave reviews for his voice. At all. He was singing something about being "so into you" and the judges definitely were into him. But I wasn't, just didn't think it was that amazing of a voice. I liked how they showed all the contestants who are coming back for a second chance, but couldn't believe the girl whose original audition was horrible, and she thought she'd really improved!! Ugh. So funny how they got their tablet out to watch the original. Pretty bad! I like the Ragu girl, and she seems to have worked hard to be better this year. That's the kind of story people can get behind, and is so inspiring for aspiring singers! Colby, the boy whose mom left him when he was ten, smiling on her way out (!) broke my heart. They let him through, though he really does have a lot of work to do. Like Katy said, he was inconsistent. Interesting voice, perhaps, if he can do something with it. Holy cow, that piano player and singer, Ashley, sounded just like Norah Jones! That was amazing. Her voice was so strong and clear. She just started singing?? Wow. I didn't realize a 90 Day Fiancé girl was a contestant! She did pretty well, too. Has been married for a year, and she's only 19. I really liked the country singer/devoted dad, Dalton Elliott's, speaking voice a LOT, more than his singing voice, but he did a good job. I'd like him to narrate some of the audiobooks I listen to!! I don't mind seeing some of the kooky things and people, like the beatboxer and all the other humming/buzzing people were doing in that clip, but I do mind the Katy kookiness sometimes. It's a bit too much and distracting. Sometimes she's okay, and other times she's just over the top and it wears on me. She is not why I watch this show, and I don't want it to be the reason I quit watching. The model from Atlanta didn't sing all that well, in my opinion, but lo and behold she made it, huh? Lionel says, "Your sound, you have one. It just needs to be developed. But I LOVE who you are." To me, they like her looks and want to see her on TV. She's going to be a star in SOME way, says Katy. So, she takes a spot! They were so crazy over her, and I just didn't quite see it. We've seen pretty girls before on this show... who could sing....! Why was this one extra special? Oh man, Lauren's story about losing her husband who sang with her and played guitar for her, made me cry. It was so sweet that her brother-in-law played for her this time, too. They HAD to let her through, didn't they?

My favorite of the night was Ashley. The others they let through were so beginner, but maybe with a chance at Hollywood....though, maybe not when the pressure is applied.

Nobody stood out for me except Norah Jones. There are others earlier on I liked more. One more night of auditions and then on to Hollywood! That always makes the cream rise to the top.

Some of the stories...oh so sad! I don't mind letting them through - it gives them a little lift and hope in life. They aren't going to make it all the way through. They will know what they are up against, but oh! They had the chance to go to Hollywood! ....in an otherwise terrible time in life, and they really aren't that bad of singers.
There have been some great singers, but I think the one that stood out to me last night the most was Evelyn - pure simplicity with a fabulous voice. We heard the backstory, but the judges didn't. All they knew or saw was a 19 year old fresh face married girl in a simple dress who blew the socks off that song with some kind of throaty low airy voice.
This is all going to come down I think to popularity and to who does the public like best.....the skills this year beat the hide off last year!

I like that a lot of the people going through were older. I found that the group last year was mostly high school kids and the top ten reflected that.

One of the earlier audition shows had mostly teenagers going through.

They said last night they had saved the best for last - meaning tonight. It is hard to see how in one night they are going to outdo all the other nights together! Maybe that is just a bit of a come on??

The ladies ruled the night. There were so many good ones. It is going to be a very tough season to stick with someone all the way through. The Norah Jones girl & the Chris Isacck girl were standouts for me.

The Norah Jones girl & the Chris Isacck girl were standouts for me. They are the only 2 that I liked as well. Now I admit, I really quit this show back after Adam's season.. but watched tonight because of the 2 NE Ohio people trying out. I met one of them back a few years and I have to agree everything that they said to her is spot on. She is nice, but comes off very disengaged, or detached in general... just north of fake. I believe that she was genuine but her delivery is very robotic. I was never a fan of her voice or song writing. At her age, she really shouldn't be calling her self Peach any more as well.

There was no reason to let the giggly model from Atlanta through. That whole segment seemed staged -- I didn't buy for a minute that the judges were that bowled over simply by her presence and personality. I thought she came across as a spoiled girl with no self-awareness. Because she could NOT sing. And I don't think she's going to get that much better in the course of one season of coaching. If she has such star power, then send her to another show that she can excel at now. Because it's not this one.

Sometimes I have to wonder if they actually see and hear things slightly differently being in the room with these people than we do just viewing it on our TV sets; otherwise, I can not quite account for some of their reactions. The model was pretty - yes, she was - but was she take your breath away gorgeous to account for Luke's reaction? In addition, some of the songs were very good to me, but were they, "You're one of the best things I have ever heard?" I thought that surely there were some nuances I wasn't catching. The young fellow - Christiaan - from The Hamptons was good, but I thought he was very good in the Broadway type of good. That is where I can see him ending up.
