Just saw the debut episode on CBS tonight (after Survivor) with Tim Tebow as the host.
Contestants try to win a million dollars by completing five obstacles while being chased by an elite runner.
Have to make it through the Exit (15-story climb up a building and sprint to finish line) before the defender does to collect the money.
Contestants can go through the obstacles in any order, and can head straight for the Exit after completing an obstacle.
Contestants have a two-minute head start over the defender and loses if the defender finishes the obstacle first.
If they fall on an obstacle, they have to return to the start of the obstacle and begin again.
The prize chart: $10K / $25K / $50K / $100K / $250K / $1 million (30-foot climb)
Note that the contestant locks in $50K after three obstacles even if caught after that point.
There are a team of ten defenders on the show (4 are women), trying to protect the million dollars:
Max Fennell "The Machine" (has competed in 54 triathlons)
Veejay Jones "The Prodigy" (currently the American OCR 3k Short Course Champion)
Robert Killian "The Captain" (holds the record for the most podium finishes in the Spartan Race World Championships)
Hunter McIntyre "The Sheriff" (reigning Tough Mudder X World Champion (2017 and 2018))
Erik Mukhametshin "The Beast from the East" (Guinness World Record holder for both the furthest and highest wall flips and has podiumed at every event he has competed in since 2017)
Isaiah Vidal "The Destroyer" (the most decorated OCR athlete in the world, celebrating the most wins in the history of the sport. Competed in over 150 races, podiumed more than 80 times)
Emma Chapman "The Mighty Kiwi" (reigning Tough Mudder X World Champion)
Rebecca Hammond "The Harvard Hammer" (recently took second place at the Spartan American Championship and Spartan World Championships)
Faye Stenning "The Canadian Crusher" (was #1 in the Global Ranking for Spartan Racing in 2016 and placed second in 2016 and 2018 in the Spartan U.S. Championships)
Orla Walsh "The Vermaniac" (Spartan Pro and CrossFit enthusiast)
Results are from the defenders point of view (each of them have nicknames like on American Gladiators):
The Mighty Kiwi ---- lost $25K (Bamboo Forest / Spiraling Up / Exit)
The Destroyer --- defended $25K (Energy Bars / Flies on the Wall / Exit)
The Canadian Crusher --- defended $10k (Spiraling Up / Momentum)
The Captain --- lost $10K (Deep Water Solo / Exit)
Defenders were 2-2, with the contestants winning $35K total tonight.
Largest lead so far after one obstacle is 2:19.
So far so good, I like the show format. I also like that the course obstacles are changed between runners, so each run is likely to be different.
