Survive in Style - The designers go on a camping trip and are challenged to create survival chic looks while embracing the wilderness. Mother Nature does not cooperate as the designers' battle the elements in order to stay in the competition.
Enjoy the show!

Time for the runway and it's cold and pouring rain...and they are outside, in the woods. Insane!

I love how judge Brandon always mentions the reveals. The designers do like that. They also like to cover their models' shoes, but I saw less of it this episode. Sonia's model tripped, but she recovered. I'm glad Christian told Kovid to lose some of the patterns he wanted to use. His look would have been really bad.

Some of those models must have been really, really cold!

The poor models are shivering.

Some of the outfits were really pretty. Most of the designers did a very good job for this challenge. Especially since they had to work under such strange conditions.

The winning look was on theme, but I didn't like it the best. I will miss Afa. I like both him and Kovid as people. I thought Kovid was going to go home. I think he thought that too. I hope Afa gets in some good cuddles with his baby. He is classy, not like Nadine.

I thought Heathers was by far the prettiest. But, I understand why they chose the one they did. I think Kovid should have gone home.

I really liked Hester's pretty dress with the leaves strung on fishing clamps for a skirt. I really wanted to like the self woven cloth, but there was so little of it. I understand, but I had great expectations. Unfortunately for Afa this was survival in the Long Island woods, not an island in Tahiti.
I don't understand how they could string electric in for the machines in that wet weather. That could be so dangerous.
I did like this challenge, though, physically challenging that it was.

I felt like the winning look was too Inspector Gadget. It was more practical than fashionable. I would have given the win to Hester. Her look was so cute and fun and visually interesting and looked like a TON of work.

When they announced Renee's name as one of the 6 to remain on the stage, I thought she was going to be in the bottom. I didn't expect her to win. There wasn't very much creativity to her design. It looked to me like she just attached some camping supplies to a tarp.
I thought Sonia was going to go home, but not because her model tripped. Her garment looked a mess, and all I could see was 'baked potato' after Brandon made that comment.
My favorites this round were the first three to walk the runway: Hester's, Venny's and Garo's designs.

I think Kovid should have gone home.
I’m surprised we got some good looks with the elements, probably no sleep and frozen hands.
Agree Hester had a great look.

I think Renee won, at least in part, because she was the only one that actually met the instructions for the challenge. I rewatched the beginning of the show to be sure. I can't give an exact quote, but it was something to the effect of "clothes to allow a person to survive in the wilderness". Also, Nina did point out that Renee had pleated the skirt. It just didn't show up very well on TV. I still liked Heathers a LOT more.

Did not agree with the judges tonight. Kovid's outfit was by far the worst IMO. I didn't care for RENEE' s outfit. It was clunky, cluttered and messy looking and Rakan's outfit was weird. I think Hester should have won hands down.

I really liked Hester's look, but I could see why it didn't win. To me it looked a little too much like a costume -- I agreed with Elaine's comment. I loved Garo's look too, but when you've seen a queen wear a very similar look on Drag Race (this was Hester's for me too), you can't help but think 'costume'. Same with Sebastian's -- it was a Christian Siriano finale collection knockoff. I'm surprised Christian didn't have any comment about it. Of the sleeping bag looks I liked Rakan's the best. It had a Bjork/Red Riding Hood chic about it. He was smart to pick a non-nature color. I didn't think Renee's look was a winner -- it was good but it was all about the accessories. It's easy to make a basic raincoat "editorial" but hanging a bunch of camping crap on it. I would have given Rakan the win. Kovid's look was worse than Afa's, in fact I didn't think Afa's was as bad as they did. If they had the runway show indoors and his model wasn't shivering, half of their negative comments would have gone away. I think Sonia should have gone home, not just for the hem but because there wasn't much innovation in her design. I feel like I've seen that dress a dozen times on the show already. Karlie is nuts.

That looked horrible out there! Those poor models! What horrible working conditions for all of them. They should have moved it indoors once the weather got bad, because it was distracting and really, what was the point? There have been lots of themed runway shows without being literally IN the theme.
Some looks were better than others, but I have to agree that Kovid should have gone home after that. The girls arms couldn't have bent, I'm sure, and those mats looked so dumb on her arms. He actually took stuff OFF of that look? Because there was sure a lot left on, and it looked terrible. Yoga mat sleeves? Ugh.
I always want to see looks that aren't made of fabric-type materials in the unconventional challenge. So, the foil blankets, the camo, the sleeping bags … made it almost too easy (even though I realize it wasn't). The girl who wove her own fabric had my vote, even though she only had a "safe" look and it wasn't gorgeous or anything, I still give her credit because she MADE something out of nothing. I love it when they do that.

I hated that show. Nobody has to tread water in a pool in order to make swim wear....so that cold, damp camping trip was just ridiculous.
If there was the element of survival in the instructions, most of them did not get it. The winner carried it a bit too far. I think the water jug used as a handbag would have made the point in a cute way...the rest was just too much hanging off the coat. Hester's dress was attractive, but had nothing to do with survival. Was she going to bare her bosom in order to use the rope?? And the leaves were in great supply on the ground so the skirt had nothing to do with her survival.
I thought the whole episode was just too precious.....Unconvential material is hard enough so the setting just added to the difficulty and did not contribute to the artistry of the designs.
I wonder how many of them got sick from being out in the elements.

Amen, amen. I spent the whole episode feeling sorry for the designers and models, which was totally distracting. Pretty much agree with all of the negative comments. Renee's dress was just a tarp with supplies hanging off of it. It may have fulfilled the first part of the challenge--"survive in the wilderness." However, it sure didn't fulfill the second half--"with style." She even admitted it inspired by her kids' Scouting adventures. When was the last time you associated the Boy/Girl Scouts with style?
Gotta hand it to her, Hester's dress was lovely. On balance, though, I would have given Rakan the win. His outfit struck the right balance between survival and chic.
Kovid's outfit was another hot mess. No way he should have been safe. I agree with MFAWalkoff. If they had been inside, and Afa's model hadn't been shivering, he would probably would have been saved. The judges were probably ticked off at being dragged out there in those miserable conditions and so took it out on Afa.

why is kovid still here? he's just annoying in so many ways. now he does a horrible design and still gets to stay. I understand they like to keep certain people around for the sake of entertainment, but to me kovid is annoyance, and that isn't the same thing as entertainment. I don't see any great talent in him, and I can't stand his voice anymore, it just sets my teeth to "grind".
