If this show doesn't win the Emmys for makeup and special effects next year, I don't know who should. The work they've done on Viserys this season is incredible. Obviously, some of that was makeup, but the right side of his face last night was CGI effects too. It was so seamless and looked so real. As much as we've joked about Viserys' decline, I found myself getting really emotional as they carried him out of the dinner. He wasn't a great king, but he really did want to be AND he really did love his family. I think he wasn't very realistic about his various family members, and that's probably the root of all the problems to come. I groaned at the end when he thought Alicent was Rhaenyra and started talking about the prince who was promised. I KNEW she was either going to misunderstand OR deliberately twist his words to her benefit. We had like 5 minutes of Alicent and Rhaenyra getting along and clearly, that's going to end.
Apparently, that moment where Daemon places the crown back on Viserys' head was not in the script. The crown fell off and they just kept the cameras rolling as Matt replaced the crown. Brilliant.
Poor Vaemond Velaryon. Not very good at reading the room, is he? How did he think that was going to go? His end was hilariously gruesome. Leave it to Daemon. Again.
The Aemond recast looks like a drawing of a fantasy character.
It sounds like we've seen our last big time jump, thank God. It's too much work to get to know new actors over and over again. There are only a handful of characters who've been played by the same actor from the beginning.

Just hand Paddy that Emmy already. It was painful watching Viserys struggle to the throne one more time to defend Rhaenyra, but when Daemon gently put his crown back on? I lost it. Vaemond didn't know when to keep his mouth shut, did he? Yet another really awkward Targaryen gathering. I don't know if I'm supposed to love the Daemon character, but I do. Looks like we're getting a civil war based on a misunderstanding. Sigh.

Yeah, the Targaryens really know how to hold a family shindig, don't they? Like with Dothraki weddings having a body count!
There are tons of memes on social media about Daemon. The gist of them all is "what terrible thing is Daemon going to do next that I'll have to justify and explain away because I love him?" Maybe this week is was the whole cutting off Vaemond's head thing, but I'm not really mad about that. Dude was kind of asking for it. You call Rhaenyra that word? Buh-bye.

A side-note I found eerie...At a football Cup Game at Wimbleton last year the teams were the Dragons and the Ravens. The announcers found it all very Game of Thrones.

I was rolling my eyes at Aegon's hasty coronation until Rhaenys did that thing. So. Awesome. I can't believe the finale is next week. I'm assuming we're going to see the bad stuff at Storm's End and then they're going to leave us hanging until next year...?

I don’t know who I hate more, Alicent or Otto. I mean, Otto is an evil schemer, but Alicent is a fool.
After this episode, it’s even more clear that Rhaenys should have been on the throne and not Viserys.
I’ll always be Team Black, so I’m finding this really hard to watch.

OMG, this is awesome. Because of this clip from this interview, there's now a Google animation. If you Google "Olivia Cooke," "Emma D'Arcy" or "Negroni Sbagliatio," you can see it.

I was chewing my nails to bits when the boys flew off on their dragons, I knew what was coming but still dreaded it...poor Luc. And Arrax. That was a hell of a big "oops," Aemond. You just started a whole war because you couldn't control your stolen dragon.
I still like you, Daemon, but keep your damn hands off Rheanyra. That look on her face at the end gave me goosebumps! Peace is definitely off the table.
Is it true that we have to wait until late 2024 for the next season?!

Is it true that we have to wait until late 2024 for the next season?! Everything I’ve read says they don’t have a premiere date. Season 2 starts filming early next year.

I finally caught up on the last 2 episodes. I am not sure why it took me so long...maybe I didn't want it to be over.
I do have some issues with how they did stray from the source work, but damnnnnn The Queen That Never Was really should have been when you have her making entrances like that. Rhaenys (and I love Eve Best) is badass, smart, observant, and all around amazing rolled into one, yes she really was the right choice to sti on the Iron Throne but was royally screwed over. Rheanyra has many of her qualities in her as well, and is also why she SHOULD be on the throne now. The dragon flight scene was hard to watch, none of Allicent's kids really have any redeeming or remarkable qualities do they?? And, sadly, she knows this.

They don't say "late" 2024, but they do say "sometime" in 2024. Boo. Filming starts in early 2023.

That SUCKS. Why the delay in filming, were they not sure they'd get a second season? That's a long time for fans to wait.

Why were they not, at the very least getting scripts written? They probably don't get the money for actual filming until the official renewal, but they can at least do the writing.
I don't remember the timing of the renewal on season 2 of GOT but it premiered just over a year after season 1 finished. I wonder why HOTD is so much slower with production. It got renewed less than a week after the premiere, so it's not like the renewal came after the season finished.
Okay, I just looked it up and GOT was renewed 2 days after the season 1 premiere, so the timing isn't that different.

I've started watching this nonsense and LOL constantly at the horrible wigs and anything Matt Smith's character does. The problem with Matt is he has this really odd allure, even when he's being terrible you want to root for him!

There are tons of memes about Daemon. They're all very "what horrible thing will Daemon do this week that I will forgive him for?" ITA about Matt Smith. He's, objectively, not handsome, but he's very charismatic.
