John Legend serves as a coach on Season 16 of NBC’s four-time Emmy Award-winning musical competition series "The Voice."
Legend, a critically acclaimed, multi-platinum singer-songwriter, has garnered 10 Grammy Awards, an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, a Tony Award and an Emmy Award, among others. Legend is the first African-American man to earn an EGOT and one of only 15 people in the prestigious EGOT club. He has released six albums over the course of his career: "Get Lifted" (2004), "Once Again" (2006), "Evolver" (2008), "Love in the Future" (2013), "Darkness and Light" (2016) and "A Legendary Christmas" (2018), which was followed by his "A Legendary Christmas Tour."
Legend starred as Jesus in NBC’s "Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert" in 2018 and was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for his performance. He won an Emmy as a producer in the category of Outstanding Variety Special (Live).
Beyond his music career, Legend is a principle partner in Get Lifted Film Co., a film and television production company based in Los Angeles. In addition to "Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert," other projects include the HBO documentary "Southern Rites," the 2018 Tribeca Audience Award-winning documentary "United Skates," WGN America’s "Underground" and films such as "Southside with You" and "La La Land."
As a philanthropist, Legend initiated the #FREEAMERICA campaign in 2015 to change the national conversation surrounding our country’s criminal justice policies and to end mass incarceration.
