All three have done well in their first round. Luke thinks Madison took the round, Lionel thinks Alejandro did, so I thought of course Katy would pick Laine but she didn't - she went with Alejandro too.
I'm a Laine fan, but I did like what the other two did, too.
I'm surprised they're going to eliminate the 3rd place person early(-ish) and just go down to the final two for the big finish.

Laine's home visit was so touching, I actually teared up. But I had to laugh when he wore his muck boots to the governor's mansion!
Huge crowds, his mawmaw making him cry and his niece hugging him so tight while he did, was so sweet.
Now, this song dedicated to his Louisiana roots was okay, fun, but not really a "moment" like they say they want.

Madison did a Carrie Underwood song, and really sounded good! Her home visit was sweet too, seeing her high school classmates rooting for her and all. Her dad went with her all day; they seem to be very close.
Alejandro's home visit made me cry again! When he broke down at the performance of his songs by the little kids choir, and told their parents to support them because he did not have a lot of support for his music, it just broke my heart. His parade was funny, and it's sweet that his niece and nephew there to support him. I didn't care for the song he sang second, though. It was just okay to me.

Alejandro made me cry. I hope he wins, he's so talented, and he never had any support..
Oh Madison is 3rd. What a cutie she is..

Alejandro with one more original scored for a full orchestra. Beautiful. I still have a small problem with his voice in that it is too soft for understanding words all the time, but I love him as a whole.

Walker Burroughs with Weezer (Take on Me) wonderful. Bobby Bones is taking Walker on his Comedy Tour this summer. That should be interesting. Oh, Wade also sang a Weezer song with the band.
Oh, and Jeremiah and Katy Perry sang a beautiful duet. They blend so well together.

I zoned out during much of the middle of this, but now Laine's singing "Home" by Sam Cooke and that's the Laine I love!! I could listen to that voice all day....

Laine or Alejandro?
Laine! Middle America does not disappoint. WGWG has once again won AI.

I didn't vote for Laine, or love him, because he was white, had a guitar, or is cute. I loved him last year before he got his new teeth. His voice is just that appealing to me, so I'm happy for his win if I can hear more of him in the future.
Congrats to Laine!!

This ending is a "to each her own" situation. I heart Alejandro, but I admit to Laine having a good voice. I don't know if he will go full on country, but he is definitely blue grass with a huge helping of Elvis. Part of my problem with him was when he suited up and began to take on the Elvis personna. I was never an Elvis fan (shhhh).

They all had nice voices, I wouldn't download their music, but others will I wish them all well. I only tuned into see Adam Lambert..I had no horse in this race.

So happy for Laine! All three of them had touching home town visits, and while Alejandro wasn't my favorite, last week when he sang Elton's song 'Sorry",I thought it was his best of the season. I really think his decision to sing so much of his own original songs hurt him, as they sounded very similar in style. He is a dynamite guitarist and there is certainly a place for him in the future (just judging all the love and applause he received tonight). And there are a ton of people who do love his style. He just wasn't my cup of tea.
I was sorry to see that Madison was eliminated third. I think she has the best chance of having a huge career someday. I loved Laine from the start. He's cute for sure, but he also has a great voice and looking and sounding a little like Elvis isn't a bad thing in my mind. He is never going to be Elvis and he's fine just as he is. I still think Madison is the most versatile. But what Laine does have is huge like -ability, good versatility, near perfect pitch, the ability to sing almost every style that was selected for him. When he chose, he made good choices. Singing "Home" by Sam Cooke was the perfect song for him, and to me, was the best of the night. So, while only one won the tital, there were no losers in the final three. As we have seen from past American Idols, being second, third, forth or anywhere in the top ten can lead to a huge career, depending on alot of hard work, fan base, and even intangibles. If Laine continues to grow in confidence, developes his ability to work the stage and audience better, there is every reason to believe that he will have a successful career ahead of him. I think there are plenty of people in the entertainment field who will be willing to help him along the way.

Alejandro warmed my heart seeing him in his hometown, and how emotional he got. He won me over last night. I kind of thought he would win, because he does stand out with his unique voice. He's a very talented young man.

For me, the only two things that I thought were excellent on this show were:
Jeremiah and Katy singing Unconditionally--I actually got my few tears on this season watching this! I really hope he tours someday as I am a big fan of his after this show(season)
Adam and Demetrius doing Bohemian Rhapsody. Demetrius just hadn't picked the right songs I don't believe but what a voice he has! And Adam, well Adam is such a talent in all way!
I did like seeing Walker as well and did like his little bit of singing he was given. And at the end, when he and Jeremiah got to sing a little with the others I liked hearing their pure voices. I did think that of the other duets that Alyssa did nicely. But Wade was not good at all, and poor Madison didn't seem to have her mike on. I knew that Laine would win when he made top 10. It was a given. I really had to struggle to watch this finale, it makes me sad to think of all the other years I just loved them!

Jeeremiah was always my fav so I was disappointed when he left. Singing with Katy showed us again what a fabulous voice he has and I really hope he will have a career in music.

I wasn't at all surprised by the winner. I think he had been headed there all season. It was a really good finale & there wasn't too much that I didn't like. I kind of think they should have given one of the performance slots to Maddie since she has a new single out. How good to you think Alejandro felt during that performance with the orchestra. To be a young song writer & here a full orchestra play behind you, man that has to feel good.

I will admit, I only watched-watched the first 75 min or so.. then I skimmed the rest to see specific performances. Personally I didn’t care about Dan and Shay, Carrie Underwood, and a few others.. sadly I was like a deer in headlights for Katy and Daddy Yankee’s performance of Con Calma.. I felt kinda dirty after.. I did however watch all the performances by the finalists.
Laine was the best winner of the 3 from a marketing standpoint, and he DOES have a lot of talent. I am a sucker for some good ole southern rock.. and he did that well. It will be interesting to see where he goes under the AI winner’s contract and beyond. I hope that he doesn’t fade into obscurity like SO many others.
Madison has a wonderful, big, amazing voice but she needs to learn a lot of breath control. I was getting tired of hearing her take breaths in between each word.. that will come in time if she works at it. Her leaving in 3rd place was absolutely fair.
As much as I love Alejandro, he should not have been the winner, as he obviously was not, lol. I think it will be far better for his career NOT winning (in fact coming in 4th or 6th would have been even better). I also think he knew this, thus his choice to do all his own music. I applaud him for that as well, I do not think that hurt him at all. I think it helped him get to 2nd place, runner up, whatever you want to call it. He did everything on his own terms (for better or worse) and I admire his integrity. I said previously I like him MUCH better when he sings his own music, last night was no different. He has some beautiful, moving, sad songs and his musicianship was shining through. AI starts to play on like high end Karaoke after a while so it, for me, was refreshing to see someone be THAT original.

My biggest disappointment of the finale was that the top ten finalists were not given a whole song to sing. I would have much preferred that to all the star entertainers that they loaded the show up with. They did the same thing last year.

Alejandro is an amazing musician and songwriter, especially for what we know of his apparent background; however, he has little stage presence, little range, little variety, and he doesn't enunciate his words on most of his songs. His strengths are great as pointed out weekly by the judges who were simply gobsmacked by this young man. They did nothing, though, to help him with what were probably the things that may have cost him some votes. While they told others to try to connect with or "work" the audience, we never heard anything like that with Alejandro. While once we heard one judge off-handedly mention it was good to see him try something a little different, the next week it was back to the same thing.....and while Katie could smart off about Karoke, there is a lot to be said about being familiar with songs whether it is her songs, Luke's, Lionel's, or anyone else's. If the hearer is familiar with a song, he/she in the mind can better judge how well he/she feels that person sang the song. Alejandro really liked to do his own songs..... which we didn't know. How well did he do? The last couple of weeks he did sing some songs in which I could actually hear the words. Otherwise, it seemed to me and to others on my FB page, that he was too close to the mic. They did not give Alejandro constructive criticism because they were too awed by him. All that said, Alejandro has somebody in the wings ready to help him get started. How could he not with so many big names praising him like they do? He is going to be fine. Madison has a TREMENDOUS vocal instrument, especially for a 17 year old. Where she goes from here, I don't know, but she will.... Laine is the cute boy next door with the guitar and the sexy voice....add to that the Southern boy with the manners who can sing country or country pop, who can work the crowds with charisma, and you have a winner.

Alejandro...the top two were to appear on GMA this morning after flying all night by private jet. Alejandro made it as far as the jet's interior then backed out. He has a fear of flying and this wasn't the time to test it. Tomorrow he is booked to sing on Kelly and Ryan. Kelly joked that if he takes Amtrak they would have to reschedule for Friday. Not happening, I'm sure. It will be interesting to see how it is handled. Will he pre-record and they play the tape? Sounds most likely.
It is actually good that he didn't win when he would be contractually forced to fly to venues for overnights. He's not big enough to rate a tour bus yet. sigh

On the other hand, Laine broke down and cried at the dinner table on his hometown visit. I don't know how well he is going to do with being away from home ( and the river!!) so much. I half jokingly told my husband they were going to have to have his older brother travel with him at least until he can adjust to being away from home. Neither one seem to be all that ready to flap their wings and take off

Perhaps that is why Laine was not wanting to audition this season. He was happy to support someone from home, but Katy practically hogtied him to force him to audition. Once he was in the process, he discovered he could change his persona, so maybe he can be a split personality for awhile until he adapts. He is eager to get to the writing music part of it.

I was quite surprised at this song for an 18 or 19 year old boy, He was doing a very good job singing it, but I was having a bit of trouble with, "Did he write this song?" It is a lovely song, but it would seem more credible if it had been written by someone with a few more years on him - and I don't mean that in any way except he is very young
