New York City of Dreams - Some surprising clients await the designers: the real women who keep New York City moving. They must create dream dresses for civic workers from the Post Office, Department of Sanitation, FDNY, NYPD and more.
Enjoy the show!

I'm all for artistic license, but Tessa's client specifically asked for a dress and she's giving her a pant/blouse/scarf combo. I'm sorry, but when someone asks for custom-made you give them what they are paying for, not what you want to make. You can try to guide them during the planning stage but ultimately it's up to them. Jamall and Hestor also haven't had private clients before either but at least they are trying to make their clients happy. Ugh.

Sebastion won, Garro 2nd, Bishme 3rd. In the bottom: Hester safe, Tessa next then Jamal out. I think Tessa should have been out but, oh well...

I thought both of the bottom two could go and that would have been fine with me.
I love the editors throwing Tessa under the bus and then driving over her. They showed that scene where her client asked for pink at least three times!

Not surprised Jamal went home. He's been in the bottom quite a bit. UGH, about Tessa not listening to her client That belt was hideous. The challenge was to make a DREAM dress and that thing was a freaking nightmare.
ETA: It always bums me out on these "everywoman" challenges when the model is clearly NOT happy with the garment. Jamal's poor model looked absolutely miserable on the runway. I'm sure it's especially demoralizing to be standing there in a dress you don't like while other ladies are wearing something fabulous that they clearly love and look great in.
My favorites were Sebastian's and Bishme's. Either one could have won and I would have been happy.

I was pleasantly surprised that Hester made something sort of "normal" instead of her usual garish stuff. It certainly wasn't a dream dress but at least it wasn't a nightmare dress.

I have to be fair and admit that at least she listened to her client and didn't do something outrageous. Same thing with Sebastien. He hated his client's idea but held his nose and did it, anyway. So Tessa has no excuse! Beyond even the crappy dress it was her whining that irritated me. "Oh, let me throw this scarf around the waist. There! Some color! See? I listened!" Compare that to Sebastien, who started with what his client wanted and then found a way to tweak it with his own idea. No comparison. I really wish Tessa would go next. I'm glad the other designers are calling her out on her bad behavior. I felt so sorry for Jamal's model. That poor woman will probably burn that dress when she gets home. The judges nailed it. It's Fashion 101. You have a client with curves, you want to create a skin-tight evening dress, so you find a fabric that stretches to fit! Geesh. Even if he had not been in the bottom before, he deserved to go home for this challenge. Sebastien and Garo hit it out of the ballpark. I'm glad Sebastien won, though, just because he had a bigger hurdle to overcome. But yeah, I would have been happy with a double win (like last week) or a double elimination.

This was not a good episode for Tessa. I'm also glad the producers showed the pink comments. I loved Sebastian's dress. I'm so glad he won. I feel like he has been passed over before. Hester's dress was better than what she normally makes.

I couldn't believe it when Tessa told the judges that her client liked blacks and charcoals with a pop of pink for color. Liar, liar pants on fire.
And the dress Sebastian made was just lovely. His client was sooooo happy, as was Garo's.

I liked how Jamal's model stuck up for him. She told them it's exactly what she asked for. How was she supposed to know he didnt know how to construct that type of dress when she told him what she wanted. Although, didnt she also ask for sheer sleeves? If he had attached something sleeve-wise maybe he wouldn't have had to add that weird strap under the arm, and maybe it would have been Tessa going home instead of him. Conversely, Tessa's model didn't really stick up for her. She wasn't rude, but she was frank when she was telling them about wanting pink.
I hope that the show makes sure those two women get a great dress. I wish when the garments are so poorly made that either Christian or Brandon would tell them they'd fix them up with a good dress. Hopefully they do that off-screen.

At least Jamal TRIED to give his lady what she wanted. Tessa just did what she always does. Frankly, I think they both should have been eliminated. Or, if only one, it had been Tessa. I started the season kind of liking her but now, UHG!

After watching this episode, I'm convincing TPTB instruct the judges to eliminate who they want. There's no way Tessa should have survived that episode. She had no respect for her client's wishes and then she lied about it to the judges saying the client really liked those colors. And if that wasn't enough, she was just plain rude defending herself in her explanation on the runway. Did you notice the facial expressions Nina kept making while Tessa talked? I'm convinced TPTB want the judges to keep Tessa for the ratings. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Tessa and Hester end up in the finale.
I didn't care for Jamal's garment, but as someone mentioned upthread, at least he TRIED to give his client what she wanted. Plus, his client defended his design, unlike Tessa's poor client who looked incredibly disappointed.
Garo's dress was lovely, and his client was happy with the end result, but still I'm glad Sebastian won. He truly listened to his client. I didn't care for the dress myself and I'm not sure Sebastian liked it either, but he put his client first which is what you're supposed to do.

I'm starting to think that Jamal either doesn't know how to make sleeves at all or doesn't know how to make them very well. This isn't the first time he's "run out of time" and couldn't make the sleeves.

If this had been the old PR with Heidi/Nina/MK, then Tessa would have been gone. Heidi, especially, hated it when a designer argued with the judges after a critique.

I think Tessa failed to listen and had yet another design that she executed poorly. To be fair, I listened to her initial interview with her client carefully and the firefighter said she did like to wear black and gray in addition to saying that pink was her favorite color. I think Tessa and Jamal both should have been eliminated, but it could be that the shape of Tessa's dress (minus the belt) did flatter her client and that went in her favor. Jamal's dress was the color his client wanted and it was long but that's about it. I couldn't believe there was boning in that dress because the fit was so horrible! Boning is meant to give an outfit structure and it certainly didn't exist. The poor girl looked so uncomfortable.
It would be great if someone could make her a dress that works for her and makes her feel some joy while she wears it. It would be interesting to have a challenge where there is a redo by the other designers. Can you imagine the 5 of them who are left all designing dresses for the deckhand?
I hope Tessa goes next week.

In the past there was a challenge where losing garments were given a re-do by the remaining designers, but I don't think that is happening this year. From the looks of preview, we may have even fewer designers walking the runway, or however they do it. Tessa may win by default.

Oh please don’t let Tessa’s win. Wish both would have left.
Jamal’s dress was bad, I thought she was going to fall out of it at one point. She wasn’t happy walking in that.
I think the 3 top winners should be our finalist.

Yeah, Jamal did a disservice to that woman and her body. And I LOVED Ms. Brooks saying that she had a hard time trying to find a prom dress and that it would behoove him to figure out a female body. And she said it in the nicest way.
But Tessa, please, I want pink and I want it in a hot pink color. A charcoal won't cut it.

If Bishme, Sebastian and Garo aren't the final three, it's rigged. Tessa is a nightmare, one-trick pony and Hester is talented, but a is definitely a niche designer.

The balancing act to these challenges is to give the clients what they want, but also put yourself somewhere in the design as well. Some clients need a little push, others go there willingly. Tessa should have compromised with maybe parts of her esthetic, but done it in a pink or a pink and black. That way the client is happy, the designer is happy, and the judges are happy! Tessa decided to make what she wanted and not take her client into consideration as much as she should have.

I agree with most of what's been said, and also wish Tessa had gone. Seems like they showed ALL the footage of her being horrible that they could find! Watch out for that bus!! Previews show Sebastian threatening to quit? Whoa. I wonder what that's about? His and Garo's dresses were so well done, and really made their clients happy. It was fun to see. Bishme could've been in trouble with his electric blue vs sky blue, but we didn't hear any more about it after the Mood incident so it must have been okay. I really like Christian, and I think it's funny how he reacts to some of their choices. His atelier was amazing!!!! I loved getting to see that!

After seeing his Atelier, I was remembering Christian's season when Tim did his pre-tent runway visit and Christian welcomed him into a packed closet.

Really enjoyed reading all the comments. I couldn't agree more with your feedback about Tessa! I loved the winning dress. It was my dream dress! Christian's atelier was amazing! It was a fun show...seeing the women working in NYC was fun and seeing the women transformed was so cool.

The thought of a final runway show by Hester makes me ill. Model after model coming out looking like a clown/Rainbow Brite doll. And yes, in a past season they had a challenge where two designers had to remake one of their outfits into something completely new. The judges used it as a way to pick the final designer for Fashion Week. It was pretty cool to watch.

Tessa could/should take a lesson from Sebastian. When his client said she loved pink, he cringed a bit. But he soldiered on and went with a more sophisticated pink; a very pale pink with a bit of light beige in it. It was just lovely, and didn't look like a 6-year-old-girl's pink. As always his craftsmanship was impeccable; he deserved to win.
Garo can really fit women with curves. He actually had corset-like construction underneath, without putting the corset up front and center on the outside. It held his client in perfectly, and she looked great. No bumps! The off the shoulder, low cut top half looked sexy, and she was held in place. Only problem; a tad bit tight across the front, but still a very nice job.
Jamal's dress would have looked nice on his client if the material was not so thin and clingy. It accentuated every bump and curve on her body. Admittedly, the construction was horrible; I could have done better. But he did attempt to make her look nice, and give her what she requested. (Politically correct comments aside, it is much more of a challenge to dress a larger sized curvy woman, and make them look attractive. That is just a fact, in my opinion.)
And Tessa; what a train wreck this week. Her dress was not a dress, was not the color the client wanted, and at the end, she just chopped off the drapes around the waist and send her down the runway. Her client was polite and said a few nice things, but... I don't think ANYONE would want Tessa as their stylist. You would end up wearing what SHE likes; something black, plain, and probably pants. If you are going to a funeral, you would be set.
Yep; in this case Tessa should have been axed.
