Pretty good episode this week. Rebecca is showing signs of dementia maybe? I love Malik! Beth was sure he was up to something and the look on her face when he told her Deja wants to see her mom, take that Beth! I loved Kevin seeing Jack instead of Nicky, I think it really hit home for him. I liked it as well. I think Rebecca is starting to show signs of dementia, it's going to very sad. I like Kates neighbour, and I like how Kate sees he has it much worse. Beth is getting on my nerves, why is she thinking the worse, ALL the time.

I'm not looking forward to Rebecca having dementia. I am guessing that Kevin taking Nicky home for Thanksgiving this year at Randall's house, is the beginning of the healing of their fractured family. We know that in the 15 year jump forward, Kevin has a big house and Rebecca is in one of the bedroom, not well, with Nicky at her side. So it would seem that he remained in touch with Jack's family, which makes me happy. I still don't know what the point of Cassidy was if she's not going to be Kevin's love interest. I was thinking that their one night stand might have led to a pregnancy, explaining who Kevin's son was in the jump forward, but that boy was younger than 15 so it can't be Cassidy's son from the one night stand if she did become pregnant. I like Deja well enough and the young lady is a very good actress, but I am tired of Tess and adorable Annie being shoved to the side. I don't care about Malik and his family either. We have enough people in the immediate Pearson family to focus on. I want to see how Rebecca and Miguel got together instead of Deja's teen romance.

I just wonder because I misplace my phone from time to time, and I don't want to worry that I'm developing dementia! That alone didn't seem like reason enough for Randall to urge her to see a doctor. I enjoyed the whole episode much more than the previous one. Eastcoastmom, I really don't care about Malik's family, either, nor do I really care about Cassidy, and I hope her being invited to sit with her husband and son is the last we will see of her, although that makes one wonder why she had to be introduced in the first place. I'd like to see how Rebecca and Miguel got together, too, but before the start of the season, one of the actors said we're not going to see that this season.

I'd like to see how Rebecca and Miguel got together, too, but before the start of the season, one of the actors said we're not going to see that this season. AlwaysVeg, we have seen other signs as well. In this particular episode Rebecca called Randall "Congressman" instead of "Councilman." Also, she was taking an enormous amount of photos with her phone camera, from various angles, as well as of the staff. This could be a coping mechanism for people who are starting to have short term memory issues. She has the photos to prompt and remind her. Also, when Randall asked how Los Angeles was, she said 'fine' and quickly changed the subject and started to talk about her grandson baby Jack. Again, another coping mechanism to change the subject b/c perhaps she doesn't remember much about her new surroundings in L. A. And lastly, remember when Kate was in labor and had her baby prematurely? Rebecca was taking a copious amount of notes when the doctor was explaining everything about Jack's condition. HOWEVER, I still am a bit on the fence about this whole dementia thing b/c I read elsewhere that in an interview Mandy Moore said Rebecca does NOT have dementia. Now, I didn't read this interview myself, but rather read it secondhand on another forum. So, color me confused.

There's also the flash forward in last season's finale where Randall went to visit Rebecca and she didn't seem to recognize him at all. She was in bed and he said his name a few times to her, as if he was trying to jog her memory, but she was just blank.
I'm still watching, but it's more hate watching now. It's just not as good as it was or as good as it should/could be. I like some characters, but I get tired of seeing the same behavior with no growth. I highly prefer A Million Little Things.

Preview shows Rebecca looking lost next week, it could be a red herring. I love Malik, but with Deja, not so much. I hope we see more of this young man.

I just caught up on last week's episode, watched on my DVR while this week's was taping. To me, it's not compelling enough to watch live anymore, like it used to be. I enjoyed seeing more of Jack in the previous two episodes (love me some Jack!), but many of the other characters are really annoying me. I had had enough of Beth last season, but she kind of redeemed herself a little bit, then her witchiness came out again with Malik's parents and it's just so dumb. Deja, too, is super strong/abrasive/defensive in one scene, then turns it around and is super sweet and soft a moment later. It's exhausting to watch those two women, and I probably only continue to do so because of Randall.
Randall as a college kid, and a younger boy, is just so adorable. I love that guy! The way he went in for his mom's job interview to talk her up, was amazing. They're truly trying to show him following in Jack's footsteps, being supportive, thoughtful, fixing things, etc.
I can barely watch Kate, much less Toby. Not interested in them at all, but the little baby Jack story was a little bit interesting I'll admit. How he grows up to be any kind of decent guy with those two parents, is a wonder to me.
I like Kevin but don't like Kevin, wanting him to do good things but then ticked at him when he doesn't. He frustrates me. I do like his relationship with Nicky and how it's evolving (and how it incorporates Jack).
Rebecca getting lost (in the previews for this week) looks scary. I didn't think her "senior moments" were that bad yet, but the way she reacted to Randall's questions indicates to me that she might be scared of the same thing and not want to admit it yet.
Anyone know when the season will pick up again, after this Fall Finale??

Great episode last night! It was so well-crafted, leading us to believe that Rebecca went out and got lost and confused at the Thanksgiving event, when it was really a fast-forward to the Big 3's 40th birthday party. The new 5 pounds of shrimp T'giving tradition was wonderful, and we get a glimpse of grownup baby Jack carrying it on at his house with his pregnant wife. We also learn that for some reason Kate and Kevin and perhaps Rebecca are not speaking to Randall (dying to know why!) and that Kevin is engaged (dying to know to whom! It almost has to be Cassidy because who would he meet, impregnate and ask to marry him that quickly, except maybe Sophie?) and expecting a child. And all this is happening really only 9 months after the Thanksgiving we just saw! I need to watch it again and see if Miguel was at the birthday party. Does anyone remember? I hope he's not gone already. Poor Rebecca, that would be enough to send her over the edge. We see a rift developing between Kate and Toby ostensibly over the weight issues. I could totally understand Beth's feelings about Shawna coming across as having it all together. She doesn't annoy me anymore. Aren't we all like that ... sometimes nice, sometimes cranky, sometimes a pain in the a**? One of the things I love about this show is the nuanced personalities of all the main characters. We are all multi-faceted.

What the what? That was kind of crazy how they did that with Rebecca and yes, Miguel was at the birthday party. Did anybody notice the text on Toby's phone? Could be nothing but if not, ruh-roh!

Boy, Kevin really does work fast! Barely 9 months later and he has a pregnant fiancée! They totally had me confused as I thought Rebecca had gone for a pie, picked up flowers instead, went for Chinese food as per the recommendation of the cashier, realized it was getting late and when she wanted to call Randall, saw she had misplaced her phone and that this was all happening in real time on Thanksgiving Day. But still, barely 9 months later and her memory has gotten significantly worse.
I know Rebecca was upset with Randall from the night before and their argument, but who goes out on Thanksgiving Day in the middle of the day to see a movie all by oneself? That was very weird, not to mention she left Beth home alone to prepare the meal, what with Randall traipsing off to Alpine, NJ to retrieve the Pilgrim Jack hat and box of stuff he'd left behind. That's another nit pick I have with this show. It's at least 2 hours from Philly to Alpine and the traffic would be horrendous on a holiday. So he could conceivably be gone for 6 hours, round-trip, no exaggeration. And of course the new owners of his Jersey house have nothing better to do than go up to their attic on Thanksgiving to search for Randall's box and wait for him to come get it. SMH. I know it's just a show and I should just hand wave these silly things but it's so unrealistic and takes me out of the moment.
I guess the house in the 9 month flash forward is the PA cabin Jack and Rebecca owned. Some eagle eyed viewer said the police uniform said "Bethlehem PA" on the patch so I'm not sure how far that is from Bradford where Nicky resides. Wondering if perhaps in the near future Kevin goes back and decides to stay in the cabin with his new pregnant fiancée. We do know that in the 15 year forward jump, Kevin is back in L.A. I am hoping we find out in January who Kevin's fiancée is. Perhaps he did reconnect with Cassidy after all. She would probably want to remain in PA to be near her son.

Here for you" I bet it's not what it seems I loved Tess coming out, she looked so happy I'm still trying to work out, if Cassidy is pregnant.

Oh my goodness, what an episode. My mom had Alzheimer’s and it all felt horribly familiar. It’s just the worst.
LOVED the fast forward with Jack and the shrimp. HATED finding out the kids aren’t speaking for their 40th.
To me, this show is still very good. Now the wait....

I liked the nine month twist with the Rebecca reveal. The text was on a text chain with multiple people from his crossfit group and a female responded. So I don't think an affair is happening...yet at least. But in the flash forward Kate signed Kate Pearson not Kate Damon. So seems like they divorced in between those nine months.

Seems like a busy 9 months ahead for the Pearsons, and I hope all the issues brought up at the end of this episode will be covered before the end of the season. I didn't notice Kate signing Pearson as her last name, but do we know that she ever used her married name? Who wants to take bets as to who Kevin's pregnant fiancee is ... Cassidy, Sophie, or I hope not Zoey! I'm confused about the fast forward from last season ... was that 10 years into the future (in Kenin's big house with his son running around, and Rebecca sick and not recognizing Randall)? I don't remember.

After reading a new interview with the Executive producer today, it's between 12 and 15 years from present day that we saw that scene with Kevin and his son. And it's about 10 years after that Jack is grown up. He also hinted that it would be a new character as Kevin's fiance and we would learn the identity of this person when the show returns in January. He also confirmed Rebecca has early on set dementia.
Kate did have a ring on in the nine month forward. But I also assumed they were divorced last season from the flash forward of Rebecca on her deathbed. Would they really try and trick us twice like they did with Randall and Beth in the forward? We'll see!

Thanks for the links! So it sounds like all the questions brought up by our glimpse of the 40th birthday party won't be answered until the beginning of season 5.

I do like the flash forwards and backwards on this show that keep us guessing. I thought the scene with grownup Jack and the shrimp and his pregnant wife was very sweet. Toby is back to being a douche and if it ends between them I hope Kate is the one that leaves him. I don't care enough about Kevin to be excited about his babymomma or baby. I find older rebecca very bland, but it is sad that she is now struggling; why would Miguel let her wander off? I hope Nicky is in more episodes; I like him a lot. Annie needs a storyline.

Randall is seen in the fast forward to Rebecca's deathbed, so no, he doesn't die. Nor do Tess or Beth as we see them later also. I can't remember seeing Annie or Deja in the future. I'm hoping it is his anxiety causing a hallucination or an anxiety nightmare.

Well we now know it was an actual intruder. Glad Randall and his family are okay but this incident really put Randall over the edge. Understandably. I wish he wasn't so stubborn about seeking mental health counseling.
I loved seeing the Big 3 at this young age...or should I say The Little 3? Is this the 1st time we've seen them at this age?
We now know why Randall always has to be in control and protector mode. Jack telling littlest Randall that his 2 siblings were high maintenance so Jack needed Randall to be good and be brave. That's a lot to put on a little kid. That's why Randall always had to be the good one...the one who you could count on.

Poor Randall! Great season so far. I was really hoping Sophia Bush would be Kevin's "person" too.... love her. And the way they had her dressed and her hair and mannerisms she seemed almost like a young Rebecca!
BUT - maybe there is hope that he gets back with Sophie per the previews...

My listings didn't show it was on this week, so I didn't tape it. I am enjoying this season too. I was ready to call it quits, but glad I didn't. Randall, the Mr Perfect of the bunch, is proving to be messed up too. I am glad, however, that the writers are keeping his marriage solid. Nice to see a solid marriage & family unit with likable, albeit not perfect, people.
