I’ll wait to see it with an open mind but I’m not enthusiastic with that news. If they are going to bring someone in, why not let Jason Sudeikis do it again?

I've been having pretty bad insomnia lately (mainly from stress). At 4 am this morning, I put this on and laughed myself silly....and finally fell asleep. I miss Stefon:

^Is that one of those 10-hour videos, because I can't remember a show where he DIDN'T break. Only 10 minutes! John Mulaney totally made it his mission to make Bill laugh during those Stefon sketches by writing the craziest stuff (that Bill didn't see ahead of time).
You know who never breaks? (or at least I can't remember it) Kate McKinnon. Those alien abduction sketches are hilarious and she never breaks - everyone else does, but she always holds it together. I don't know how she does it.

OMGOSh, I miss STEFON so much too!!! I mean absolutely EVERYTHING about STEFON is hysterical!!!! Where does he come up with everything he says........ Critical.......me too last night, up at 3AM, worried about my school workload, about the health of this country and my family, my elderly parents, my babies etc etc ANYWAY, I ended up watching about 40 minutes of a montage of hysterical comedy acts by Sebastian Maniscalco. He always has me roaring. ALSO there is a brand new podcast called "SMARTLESS" with Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett. Its AWESOME. It might be an option for a sleepless night.

I wasn’t crazy about Carey’s Biden. I thought it was too much Carey and not enough Biden.

I liked some of his characters over the years. I thought other ones like ace ventura were ridiculous. He seems to be acting crazy at times in real life lately, unless that's also just an act. I'll take a look at this character on snl.

I got a text from a friend saying that I was mentioned on SNL. I didn't think about it until Bowen Yang said 'You're not quirky, you are horny...SAVANNAH!' I was blown away! I really felt like he was talking to me! Lol.
I really loved Megan Thee Stallion, and I usually fast forward the musical acts.

I wasn’t crazy about Carey’s Biden. I thought it was too much Carey and not enough Biden. Agree, I didn't find it funny at all to be honest. I like Woody as Joe the most I think. Honestly even Maya wasn't as good as she normally is as Kamala her looking at the teleprompter was almost as distracting as Jim's wayward eyebrow.

I was willing to give them a lot of leeway with reading the cue cards. I would imagine that sketch was rewritten MULTIPLE times this week!

I realize the entire sketch had to be rewritten at the last minute, but it went on far too long for something that wasn't really biting or funny enough to warrant the time. Carrey is too over the top to play Biden, and I don't look forward to a whole season (or 4 years) of him if Biden wins the election. Woody is a much better Biden, but I think he lives in Hawaii. Besides the Drew Barrymore sketch and Weekend Update, I really didn't find anything very funny or clever, and they could have done more with Chris Rock. I never heard of Megan Thee Stallion (nor either the host or musical guest scheduled for next week) who gave me a headache with those costumes and set, but I will blame that on my advancing age. I appreciated Kate McKinnon's silent nod to RBG after Update.

I think in some ways, SNL is losing it's way with debate sketches because they are putting more into the people playing each person than they are saying something in the sketches. I think the best that SNL ever did with debate sketches was when John McCain was running against Barack Obama. Those sketches were not memorable because of the people who played each person. hey were memorable because they gave you insight into what was happening. sarah Palin actually never said you could see Russia from her house - but a sketch saying that made you question what she actually DID say.
It's a challenge because reality is so absurd. But they made the big build up the addition of Jim Carrey, and once you saw him, the joke was over

And yes, the nod to Tiny Ruth was beautiful.

I was kind of surprised that SNL had Bill Burr as host, he doesn't fit the common mold of the show. I heard that the cancel culture crowd is upset at him.

I'd never heard of Bill Burr. I thought he was just okay. The opening monologue was okay, but the stuff about gay pride month was over the line, IMO. I just don't tend to enjoy comics who think they're being edgy by attacking everyone. It's not a substitute for actually being funny. Chris Rock's opening last week was much better, IMO. I did like the Samuel Adams commercial. Kamala riffing on the toilet paper shortage was so dead on. About looking at the cardboard tube: "Well, it's technically paper" Then looking at old t-shirts and a pair of scissors..... "Are we doin' this?" I love Maya so much. I hope she gets to do that impression on SNL for a long time to come (for more than one reason ) I know some posters don't like Jim Carey, but I do. I think he's doing a good job as Biden and his Jeff Goldblum was dead-on last night. I wouldn't mind seeing Alec Baldwin's Trump be retired (for more than one reason . He's been doing it for SO long and it's just not as funny as it was in the beginning. The novelty has worn off. Jack White was beyond excellent. SO much better than that country singer they gave the boot because he broke quarantine. I don't even know who he is, but there's no way he would be better than JW. I often ffwd through the musical guest, but not this week. Got a little misty over that clip of Eddie Van Halen

We certainly got such an upgrade from a country singer that I have never heard of to Jack White. He's an excellent guitar player, which I'm not sure I fully recognized before. And what a ding dong that country music singer is, you messed up your chance on SNL to go to a party, unmasked.
As someone who did cut up old t-shirts because I didn't have paper towels, yup! God, she is so funny. And I agree with you Critical, I'd like to send the Trump impersonation out to pasture (for more than one reason). I've always thought Leslie Jones should play him.

Friday on Today they showed a clip of Willie Geist's interview with Lorne Michaels which will air next Sunday. They were talking about Morgan Wallen being axed, and Lorne's comment was that it's certainly not unusual for music stars to go out and party after a game or show - it's just something that has different rules these days. He also said that getting a replacement is not an easy task because not just any musician has a band pulled together and ready to perform at a moment's notice. But he said Jack White came to mind early and he's one who can always pull it off.

Bill Burr is pretty popular on the stand up circuit. I'm not sure how comedians like Richard Pryor would have fared nowadays though cause it seems like people are insulted more easily in general.

Adele did a really great job! I do think it’s notable that in listing the highlights, there’s no mention of the open. All the years SNL known was celebrated for their political sketches and this year they are the thing we have to get through to get to the good stuff!

Any thoughts on this past weekend's show? I've listened to the monologue three times now. I think it was one of those classic Chapelle performances that seemed funny (or not funny) on the surface, but when it sinks in you realize he really said some big stuff. I loved it.
Also loved the first sketch with Aunt Jemima and Uncle Ben. But it seemed like there was some unplanned ad-libbing from Dave in that one. That led me to wonder if the number of sketches that did not include him were due to reactions from Lorne, or if the events of the week not playing out on Saturday led them to scrap some things they'd been working on. It seemed strange that they had so many sketches that did not include the host. I don't remember him sitting out so much the first time he hosted.

We get SNL at 8:30pm and with that due to Joe and Kamala's speeches, then the Notre Dame football game cut into our recording of SNL. We were watching so much election coverage that at 11pm when we went to put it on (our 8:30 recording of SNL) we only got the opening and DC's monologue. YES I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU.......DC's mono was something you had to listen to intently and the fact SNL allowed DC the platform to give his 17 min mono was awesome. There were some moments where you said "hmm, what did he say" but all it all as the title of this article linked states, it was beautiful but sometimes it hurt. www.cnn.com/2020/11/08/entertainment/dave-chappelle-snl-sums-up-2020-trnd/index.html

Chappelle was on fire this weekend. That monologue was one of the best I've seen on the show and you know what, if he made some people uncomfortable, they were probably people who SHOULD have been uncomfortable. He's so smart and just dead-on. He was on Letterman's Netflix show this season and it was a really excellent. I don't love (understatement) the n-word, but Chappelle uses it with such precision that I can't fault him for it.
I didn't love the cold open this week. I wanted them to go harder - or maybe crazier - on Trump. It was a little safe. When they did the sketch later in the episode with the footage of the white Bronco, THAT was what I expected in the cold open. That Bronco came on screen and I choked from laughing!
I won't miss Alec Baldwin or Trump on the show. It's gotten kind of tired. I mean, there's only so much you can do and it seems like he was on every episode. As much as I like Jim Carrey, I don't really love his Biden. It's more JC than Joe Biden. I liked Sudeikis' Biden better. I LOOOVE Maya as Kamala. She's just SO good. I'm amazed at how they put her white suit together within maybe 30 minutes (less?) on Saturday. Kudos to the wardrobe department!
Weekend Update was excellent too. Jost and Che didn't quite gel for the first season or two, but they've really hit their stride. I love when they write jokes for each other.
Foo Fighters are one of my favorite bands and they didn't disappoint. The musical guests this season have been very good.
