I've read complaints elsewhere from people who didn't like either Foo Fighter performance, which really surprised me. The comments were coming from people who said they were fans but hated the first song. I was the complete opposite. I'd say I'm a casual Foo Fighters fan, and when I heard the first song I thought I needed to listen to more!

Agreed -- Foo Fighters were excellent, with both songs. Fight me!

The cold open was very funny! I loved how they included some of the other kooky characters along with the most recent ones. Weekend Update never disappoints. I fell asleep after that 😴

I love any and all Rudy jokes, I mean they write themselves, so that was great for me. And they did a Duplex skit!!! I have a friend who went there all the time that people thought she worked there. Such great memories! Love Bowen and I have a feeling he was behind that skit

Is anyone watching the SNL Vintage show that is shown at 10 p.m. on Saturday nights (at least here in Southern California)? Some of the shows are 20+ years old. It's nostalgic seeing the former SNL cast members, some of whom have gone on to be quite successful and some, unfortunately, deceased. The musical guests comparing them to today look soooo very young. The one weak point I notice is that some of the Weekend Updates mean nothing today since so much time as passed by we don't remember what the issue was then or who they are poking fun at.

I watch them sometimes. It is fun to see what things really hold up, and what makes no sense at all without the context of time!

Interesting... new featured player James Austin Johnson is a Trump impersonator, so I guess Alec Baldwin is finally off the hook.

Yes MFWalkoff I believe AB said it many times that he wanted to be done being Trump's impersonator and then he would go back to SNL for a few more shows and then say it again and then finally end of last season (I believe) AB was finally done. This new guy sounds just like Trump .....

Last night's Jason Sudekis episode was one of the best in recent seasons and Brandi Carlile was INCREDIBLE! I love her so much!

AGREED! So good! Loved the parent-teacher conference skit and the silly last skit with the doll hairs. I really smiled all through the show. And wow, Brandi Carlile!!!! I recently heard an interview with her on NPR and I found her really interesting. Far better than Rami's episode, he was only good at playing the dancer.

It was a great show! They found a good balance between bringing back some of Jason’s old hits but also using his skills to do a lot of great new stuff too!

I recently heard an interview with her on NPR and I found her really interesting. Far better than Rami's episode, he was only good at playing the dancer. Agreed. Rami's show just wasn't that good, IMO. I know he's a good actor, but I've always found him creepy. I kind of hate to say it, but I thought Kim K did well in her episode and it was better overall than Rami's. That taped bit of the grown a$$ ladies in the club had me
I actually found myself getting a bit emotional over Jason's opening monologue as he mentioned all the greats who'd performed on that stage. As @acooker said, I thought they struck a nice balance between new sketches and a few old ones. The Devil on Weekend Update was excellent!
Brandi's memoir Broken Horses is really terrific. If you missed her performance on the Grammys in 2019, it is well worth the time. One of the best live performances on the Grammys ever.

I think what I liked most about the characters they brought back was that they acknowledged time has passed. The cold open acknowledging differences of Biden then and now was great. The devil was “new” in the way they acknowledged the timeliness. Even with What’s Up With That they acknowledged Jason is older and his kneels aren’t the same. I think a lot of times when alum come back they phone in the old stuff (cough, Wiig, cough). I like that Jason acknowledged the passage of time.

Critical, I really try my best not to be exposed to anything Kardashian or Kardashian related, but I found her likable and I agree, much better than Rami. I also found myself emotional over Jason's monologue! Gosh, I hope he is as nice as a person as he seems to be.

I also found myself emotional over Jason's monologue! Gosh, I hope he is as nice as a person as he seems to be. I do give her credit. There were reports from the set that she was working REALLY hard because she wanted to be good. I'd guess that A LOT of people were eager to see her fail, so I'm sure that was a motivator. I'm not a fan, but I can still be impressed with what she did. I loved that she went all in on making fun of her family. Of course, there were also reports that she was causing headaches for the makeup department by coming to the studio in full makeup each day for the paparazzi shots of her entering - then they'd have to remove and redo her makeup for any promo photos or video they had to shoot. God forbid anyone see her without makeup!
Sadly, I read a few blind items about JS cheating on Olivia Wilde back in the day, which I hope aren't true because I really like him. IMO, if you cheat on Olivia Wilde, you'll just cheat on anyone.

OMGOSH Critical, I wondered what happened between them. Oh no. I like Jason so much too. I loved him on SNL Saturday night. So was it JS that cheated? The only article I read was that JS was very sad over the break up so for some strange reason I thought OW had moved on from him. I loved the Opening, I loved his Monologe and I loved the teacher skit with the planets......well I loved the whole epi.

momrek06 - both things can be true - he could have cheated on her AND be upset that she moved on. Like I said, it was just blind items, but they're often right. They never did get married, which can sometimes be a red flag. My mom and I laughed and cringed about the Teflon underwear for men commercial. Let's just say that it hit a little too close to home for her.

That was sweet when JS called out the kiddos in his monologue.

With so many cast members leaving, this season is definitely like a reset. I'll be curious to see how things fall out. They definitely had some huge losses, especially Kate McKinnon and Aidy Bryant.

I was not expecting that massive exodus. From what I've read, several cast members would have left sooner, if not for the pandemic. It sounds like they didn't want to leave after that weird pandemic season and maybe were asked to stay another season after that.
I was not surprised Artistotle Atari was gone. I saw his first sketch and thought, "Nope. Not SNL material."
I thought the premiere was okay. I'm not a huge Miles Teller fan. I thought he did fine, but wasn't a stand out. The opening sketch where Jon Hamm appears made me wish Jon Hamm was hosting instead....and really WHY hasn't Jon Hamm hosted recently? He's SO good.
It seems like Heidi Gardner, Bowen Yang and Mikey Day are going to be doing a lot of the heavy lifting. Hopefully, Kenan will stick around. I know Cecily Strong is still in the cast, but she also has other opportunities and has been gone on and off prior to this.
