I watched both shows and enjoyed both like I did last year with these 70's throwbacks performed LIVE in front of an audience and the east coast. All in the Family took me home to the time a friend of a friend came to dinner in his army uniform. He was, like the character in the show, on his way to Canada. Unlike the character, he wasn't a conscientious objector, but a deserter. Like Arichie my father exploded then barely tolerated. Unlike Archie he had served as a Navy Lieutenant in WWII so this betrayal would cut deeper. He also had a son who was fast approaching draft age. It must have been agony for him. That "Christmas Dinner with the Bunkers" really hit some nerves with me. Good Times highlighted the divisions that are always there in politics. This show could have been written for today, not 60 years ago. I got into that one as well as the women fighting for their own views against the male know it alls. Also part of my life. Needless to say, both these shows hit a nerve or two with me.

I watched the beginning of Good Times, but flipped over to some other things and plan on watching the rest which I recorded. I thought it was funny that selecting two shows that had political themes throughout, they went on knowing they risked being preempted by news coverage of the impeachment vote. What a great way for Jimmy Kimmel to make the point about the political realities of Norman Lear shows!
