I agree Critical .........why? Weird. Odd. I just read both of those articles. Now, let me get this straight: It's NOT the actors giving the commentary, but the characters they play doing it. In other words, fictional people giving the commentary & opinions of writers. NOT the real actors' opinions. Huh????? Why?????  Sounds useless & kind of dumb to me. I'd rather the cast giving their own commentary. Although, if it was the actors, they might make some people (winners, losers, presenters, nominees) angry with them for calling it like it is. Maybe with it being scripted by writers, there will be some distance and uncertainty as to exactly who's opinion it is. In other words, the offended parties won't know who to blame. Still sounds unnecessary & stupid to me. |

Just watching red carpet interviews and what the heck is up with Antonio Banderas' date clinging to his arm the whole time he's being interviewed? It was weird. Not a fan of Billy Porter's look this year. I've loved him in skirts/gowns in the past, but this one would be a miss on ANYONE. I like that he takes risk, but it's not great. Regina King looks like a goddess. Just perfect. 
Every time I try to watch the red carpet interviews, I'm reminded of how very much I HAAATE red carpet interviews. I just don't like the a$$ kissing and banal small talk. No one ever asks a smart question. Right now, it's on mute so I can see what everyone is wearing.
Janelle Monae is on right now and she looks like a very stylish mirror ball. I'm not hating it. I sort of like it when people do something a little different and have some fun.
I have NO real favorites this year. I predict Renee Zellweger and Joaquin Phoenix take the Best Actress/Actor awards. Probably Brad Pitt takes Supporting Actor (yay). No clue about Supporting Actress or, really, Best Picture. Maybe 1917, if the voters went "traditional" this year.

I'll start watching at 8. I don't enjoy the red carpet interviews so will just check tomorrow to see what everyone wore. Of the nominated films I've only seen "Marriage Story" and "The Irishman" so I don't really have any favorites.

I know. It was annoying. Still, I'd rather listen to him get bleeped than another identical song from Randy Newman. UGH.
Super happy for Laura Dern! Diane Ladd looks pretty great! I still remember when both of them were nominated so many years ago for Ramblin' Rose.

I don't need to see the conductor being interviewed though. WTH was that? Just introduce the person you're there to introduce and get off.
Cynthia Erivo!!!! Is there anything she can't do? That high note she hit? Goddess. Loving her on The Outsider too.
I'm remembering when everyone fell all over themselves praising Beyonce that year she performed on the Oscars. I just didn't get it. Here's CE wiping the floor with what Beyonce did. Can't wait to see her as Aretha in Genius: Aretha.

Wish I had seen Cynthia Erivo in her Tony- winning performance! She's amazing!
Critical, I just read she will be starring as Aretha but Aretha had wanted J. Hud. Personally I'm glad because I may be the only person out there who doesn't care for Jennifer's singing.

First female conductor at the Oscars!  Wish it wasn't just for one little segment. Baby steps, I guess. Gal Godot looks incredible tonight. She looks great in everything, but tonight she looks like a Movie Star.
ETA: LOVE the reaction when a woman wins Best Original Score - for the first in over 20 years.
ETA: So, we're just getting to the In Memoriam segment and still have Best Actor and Actress and Best Picture? Yeah, they're not going to finish this thing on time

I think sometimes the voters use those categories to give a foreign film that's also nominated for Best Picture an award by giving them the win in the other category.
One thing's for sure, I need to see Parasite!

I guess the voice over answered our question: first film not in the English language to win Best Picture. VERY cool! It's already available on various streaming platforms (for a fee). I may watch it that way. Cheaper than going to the theater!

Incredibly pleased for all the Parasite love tonight; that movie deserves it and more! Definitely buying it on Blue Ray because it's the best movie I've seen in years, and when you understand a lot of the symbolism behind why certain things were used it's even better.
Also happy for Joaquin and Hildur Guðnadóttir, Taika Watiti, and Matthew A. Cherry.
